Chick Not Fledging
Petstock at home have them premixed so usually buy in bulk. So you think add some more nutrient seed and he will improve or just for next clutch?

Chick Not Fledging
Feed them seed occasionally some millet and they get mix of chopped up veg and fruit. I was thinking of taking him out before mum has had enough?

Chick Not Fledging
Hi everyone, hope all is well! I while ago i had posted topic in regards to wondering why my bonded pair budgies hadn't succesfully breeded after months doing ''the job''. there was suspicion into whether i actually had 2 females But after a week of moving temporarily out of town for work for 12months, my partner phoned to say my hen 'Olive' had laid 7 eggs!!! 4 fertile and hatched, sadly only one survived!! So my issue is the little fella is about 7 to 8 weeks of age now, my understanding is he should of fleged by now? from what i can see, his wing flight feathers have developed, only couple of his tail feathers slightly quilled. Outdoor aviary. He/She is just beautiful and will have to put pics up, solid light green cinnamon from what i can guess So any hints would be appreciated !

Fatty Cyst?
Hi guys, sorry for the delay, havent had internet access but I have good news! The lump in the back of his neck seems to have disappeared, which makes me agree with you Kaz that it was blocked feather follicle/feather cyst. Managed to get photos of it so once i remember how to use photobucket, will post them just so you can still have a look. thanks again and hope you and all your feathered friends are well!

Fatty Cyst?
Hi Ladies and Gents, Hope all is well. So I have noticed one of my boys yesterday had his feathers raised at the back of his neck. I managed to catch him and have a look, seems as though he has a squishy lump under the skin, is very spongy but I can appear to move it? My camera is playing up but hope to have a couple of photos up showing the location and how he looks. My initial thoughts were that it may be fatty tumour or cyst, but as outlined by many is more related to being over weight. is in an avairy and so gets lots of exercise flying around with the others, and doesn't really have a fattening diet I have separated him for the moment so I can take him in if needed but he is usually kept in an avairy with 8 other budgies, all my budgies are given budgie seed mix, the odd millet spray, chopped veg and fruit (carrot, broccoli, cucumber, apple) they're treated to milk thistle now and then and of course fresh water daily. Any thoughts are well appreciated as i live at least 3 to 4 hours from avian vet. I have called local vet clinic and they are happy to look at him. Thanks guys!!

Help Restarting Breeding Program
Exactly what I thought Kaz, too much white. I'm in the process of seeing what the breeder says, have left him a message with leg ring codes. Just thought a chance of being a male due to him kissing, feeding and preening hen as well as being a bossy boots towards the other male in the aviary if he gets to close to the hen.I spose time would tell tho. By the way Kaz you have some beautiful birds! Yes Dean, he? she? is a cracker!! has a gorgeous long tail and lovely cheek feathers! throat spots/feathers are big too!

Help Restarting Breeding Program
Squeak_crumble, yes there is the one pair with another male in the avairy with them. and I do have 2 nestboxes, the other is out of view in the left section. Kaz, yes they are huge nest boxes, they have got little ladders on the inside for them to climb up and have been fine in the past, but I am going to make new boxes when I have the chance to. hopefully these pics will help!?! and we can settle on a gender but either way they are gorgeous!

Help Restarting Breeding Program
Hi everyone, hope all is good. I have decided to restart my breeding program after losing my birds about 2 months ago. I now have a 3 in a aviary and my other new ones are in quarantine. My question comes in regards to a hen and cock who have bonded, he feeds her and she is "presenting" to him but no go so to speak. I'm not sure that he is that raring to go as his cere isnt really that dark. Any advice is much appreciated as you guys have known the game longer than me. Here are some pics of them both and the current setup I have, with 2 nestboxes. Their Aviary My Hen....OLIVE The Pretty OLIVE and her guy ELVIS

A Sore Eye
Hi everyone, just a quick question, i'm trying to upload a picture but hope my description may be good enough. I have a Male budgie that appears to have injured his eye, no discharge or blood but continuously is closing his eyelid and rubbing his head on perches on the affected side. The best way i can describe it is like a poke in the eye, and cant help but closing it all the time. Any treatment i can do or best to let it take its course? Thanks! Jess

My Feathered Friends All Passed On
Thanks for your condolences Splat, i thought that may have been the case too and had looked at considering an autopsy but i just couldnt do it... They didnt show any signs of illness very happy birds and I always would check them twice a day Im from the wimmera region western victoria, the forecast that night brought rain, frost and fog and was minus 2 at 8am. I hope to soon get the aviary up and going with the sound of budgies again, awaiting to finish my studies and let my broken heart mend a bit. Thanks Rachelm! Genericblue, we have concrete floor and had scattered dirt over the bottom and would clean it out once a weekly. Do you not suggest concrete at all?

My Feathered Friends All Passed On
I sadly lost all my budgies and my two cockatiels the other week during a frost. I'm absolutely devastated! Not only did i get the bad news on my way home from being out of town, but also I had recently successfully bred my first ever chicks, they too succumed to the frost. I have loved budgies my whole life, and the hen of the 2 chicks, i had hand raised. Apparently my partner walked out to the aviary to check them all and the chicks as we would do every day, and found all my precious birds on the bottom of the cage, the hen near the nest box, with the 2-3 week old chicks inside. He too was devastated as he knew how much they meant to me and he too had bonded with them all. I still get upset when i think about it, and have put a hold of my budgie breeding for the time being. I thankfully have the pleasure of my beautiful feathered boy Noddy, who i had also hand raised when a friends hen had rejected him and have kept as an inside pet since I got him. It eases the heartbreak of losing all my feathered friends when I get out of the bed in the morning to be greeted with a reet reel whistle from Noddy! :rip:

Struggling Baby Budgie
Hi Kaz, Having trouble working out this photo business. Have checked the chicks, the dad has been in there and has actually fed them and both have food in their crops, think i will just keep a eye on the little one, still very warm which is a plus. Thanks for your advice!

Struggling Baby Budgie
Removing the older chick at feed time might be the way to go. I'm just about to go back out and check will organise some pics too. The mum is about 12 months old, which is younger than i'd prefer but I thought she was actually a HE, then put her in bigger avariy with other budgies and we were soon proved wrong! the father is alot older and doing a very good job fussing over her.

Struggling Baby Budgie
Doesnt have food in its crop and isnt very active at all. It hasnt been raising its head or chirping for food. The mum seems to be out of the box more than usual and thought this might be beacuse of the older one being so demanding

Struggling Baby Budgie
Hi all, i have just joined and hope I am putting this in the right place. I have a first time mum, she has come out with 2 chicks a bit over a week old apart. I have noticed today that the younger of the 2 appears a bit lethargic, its eyes still closed and no downing as of yet. I have some experience with hand raising and my thoughts are to do this with the older of the 2 (about 2 weeks and 2days old), so mum can focus on the young one (whom is about 6days old) . Do any of you agree with this situation? I appreciate any advice given.
