Hi there, Been a while. Just letting you know that budgies are doing really well. They chirp and chatter all day can get a little loud sometimes. We up graded the cage and now we can wheel it outside for fresh air. They love it. They hang upside down and play with their toys. The little white one is very cute, she is still under developed but seems happy enough. Any tips for summer?

Thankyou. There is one perch that is as high as it can go. And I think the one that is sitting on the toy is her fav. I thought that hanging on the side of the cage looked uncomfortable. They mainly do this at dusk after eating. I did purchase some more wooden perches.

Me again. Still chirping and chattering all day. Now I have noticed they are sitting up higher in the cage. Not on their perches put one is hanging onto the side and the other is resting or perching on top of a toy? Does this mean anything?

Thank you. I do have a toy in the cage which has a bit of mirror on it. It's about 1cm x 1cm and one of them has just discovered it. It's been in there about 2 months. I will take it out.

Back again. Budgies are doing really well. I'm pretty sure they are both girls. Now when I go in to talk to them I just call them both birdie birds. We got through our first moult. My question is is it normal to chatter and chirp pretty much all day?

Chick Can't Fly...
I will read with interest. My little male can't fly, this is one of the reasons why I have him. I have tried him on my finger and moving my arm up and down, he flaps like crazy but no lift. He is a great climber though.

Koko Seems Sick....
Oh, Koko and Kasper are having a rough trot. I'm sorry I don't have anything to offer as I am new to budgies. I will follow with interest and hope all goes well.

Thanks for all your help and replies. Yes I did have them the wrong way around. I will have to keep their names tho. Joan really responds to the name. Joan? is very affectionate and will sit on my finger where as Ray(lene) is not interested. I did buy some Vetafarm moulting aid, hope this was the right thing to do. They have budgie seed and I have mixed in some vetafarm crumbles, millet spray a couple times a week and experimenting with different veg. So far we have tried bok choy, apple, carrot and a homemade egg and biscuit. They like chewing on the apple branch. They are very amusing and are really into each other. I love hearing them chatter.

LOL makes sense. Basing all our info on your descriptions so the sooner you do a clear cere photo with no flash used the sooner we can help Definitely. Will have to get OH to upload pics later tonight as I have no idea how to.- Newby Here
Just googled more pics and think maybe Joans a boy? The cere is very mauve no white showing. Now I'm all confused- Newby Here
No I wasn't 100% sure. I did assume that the blue cere did determine that he was a boy. Just went and had a closer look. You are right, it's a pale blue with some whitishness. It was originally all very true blue but light in colour. I will try and put up some pics later. Maybe Joan is a different sex as well? If they are 2 females will they be okay together?- First Moult And Very Vocal
From reading the FAQ I believe that Ray and Joan have bonded. Ray is going through his first moult. Is it normal for him to very vocal? He chatters away and then in the afternoon it sounds as though he is cranky at Joan.- Newby Here
Hi all, Six weeks ago I adopted 2 little budgies. (long story) A male possibly a pied blue and a white female. Both were poorly bred. The little white one who I have named "Joan" of Arc was not a well bird. I am new to birds but thought I would give it a go. She was unable to fly and one of her foot is slightly turned in. She can now fly a little, climbs everywhere, very bright and alert and her feathers look nice and has a new personality. Ray the male is now going through his first moult and this is what what bought me here. After reading the posts in the health section and seeing the pics confirmed my suspicion. I have lots to learn and look forward to reading the posts. - Newby Here
