  1. He has a small amount of opaline spangle wing markings on the top of his wings. The rest of his wing is clear from being dom pied . Here are two examples of opaline spangles, here you can see the body colour has replaced the black that you would normally see in a spangle.
  2. Vetafarm have a product now called Avimec, made specifically for birds. This will probably be heaps cheaper for you L__J.
  3. Luckily the egg eater has stopped eating and has 3 eggs, 1 is fertile so far. Pair 9: Hen- Green recessive pied. Cock- Violet Greywing
  4. Don't forget to quarantine.
  5. Dad is TCB opaline dom pied. So all HEN chicks will be TCB opaline because TCB and opaline are sex linked genes. If you pair Dad to a normal hen, all COCK chicks will be split TCB and Opaline . Dom pied is a dominant gene and half of all chicks will be dominant pied. Dom pied x Normal= 50% Dom Pied, 50% Normal.
  6. L__J mum is sky spangle, dad is sky dom pied opaline spangle.
  7. I'm thinking dominant pied, clear tail and clear flights, flights in texas clear body should be grizzled grey. Are photo's of the parents in your other post Nick? I will have to check. okay I found the photo of the parents. Looks like dad is the dominant pied one. Explains your pied chick.
  8. Kiwi Budgie your budgie is male, some of my cinnamon and also some of my dominant pied boys still have pink ceres and they are over 1 year old. Most male budgies ceres will turn blue 3-6 months old.
  9. Thank you Flip. Fingers crossed. As of today- Pair 1: No eggs yet. Pair 2: 2 eggs one already showing fertile. Pair 3: 2 eggs Pair 4: 3 Lay so far but keeps eating eggs. Pair 5: 9 eggs, 6 fertile first due 19th November. Pair 6: 5 eggs 0 fertile. Pair 7: 5 eggs 2 fertile Pair 8: No eggs yet. Pair 9: No eggs yet ( will add photo of pair nine)
  10. I have a recipe but I haven't made them yet. They are pretty much just plaster of Paris, water and diatomaceous earth.
  11. The second chick looks like it might also be pied, the lower half of the wings look pied out. Texas clear body have blue tails , not sure if the tail would be black in grey series birds but yes the tail does change with opaline just like any other opaline bird, the tail will have like a clear section along the quill/shaft section. Other than that some more photo's may be helpful.
  12. I'm pretty sure Apache is Sky blue recessive pied and Chinook is a normal Cobalt or Violet.
  13. Both look like cocks to me. My daughter and I love Apache because he looks like he is wearing bunny ears.
  14. Your photo confirms him as spangle and as you said olive and opaline. Shame you don't have room for both because they do make a pretty pair.
  15. Wow, they're beautiful.
  16. Was the other lacewing from the previous clutch a hen?
  17. Copy and paste the Direct link in photobucket to the Image link .
  18. Aww they are all so cute. I love how bright yellow they are.
  19. I breed lacewings and fallows and my first thought is opaline lacewing. Your baby in question has no body colour and pale cheek patch (lacewing) where as fallows have body colour, brightest on the rump, violet cheek patch, browny blue tail. But I've never bred a lacewing with so much colour on the wings, they normally start out with a hint of brown then darken up after first moult. Yes, the grandfather would have to have been split lacewing to pass on the gene unless the grandmother was actually lacewing passing the gene onto the father.
  20. This is the first time I've done a breeding journal on the BBC. I thought I might share some of my photo's and experiences. I started my 2013 season in late July this year and so far I've bred over 80 birds, all show birds. I also love to breed pet budgies, with my main focus being on pretty colours. I have put down 8 pet pairs so far. Pair 1: Hen- Australian yellowface (AYF) sky opaline greywing spangle Cock-Australian yellowface (AYF) sky opaline spangle Pair 2: Hen- Cobalt violet opaline Cock- AYF sky greywing recessive pied + dominate pied Pair 3: Hen- Yellowface (probably mutant 2) sky opaline. Cock- AYF sky greywing recessive pied + dominant pied Pair 4: Hen- AYF cobalt greywing spangle Cock- Cobalt violet spangle. Pair 5: Hen- AYF cobalt violet Cock- AYF sky violet opaline recessive pied greywing/ yellow face Mutant 2. (Already sitting on 8 eggs 5 fertile so far) Pair 6: Hen- AYF cobalt recessive pied + dominant pied Cock- Grey dominant pied/ cinnamon Pair 7: Hen- Yellow face sky opaline greywing recessive pied (she hatched with one eye missing) Cock- Double factor AYF sky greywing Pair 8: Hen- Yellow face sky greywing Cock- Cobalt violet greywing fallow
  21. As long as the little one is being fed, there shouldn't be a problem.
  22. I still say Olive opaline spangle. A photo of the birds tail would be helpful, but in this photo you can see part of the wing, which is clear, spangles have clear flights and tails. Spangle with opaline produce a large amount of body colour through the wings , like this bird has.
  23. The baby is Yellow face opaline greywing. The cheek patch in the last photo is saying pied or spangle. More photo's would be good.
