Ants !
to my dismay yesterday I was sitting outside on our patio enjoying watching my budgies in their portable cage when I noticed ants crawling inside the cage! I quickly cleaned the cage inside & outside...so from now on the cage when outdoors will be sitting in a large pan of water!! Years ago we were breeding finches, ants ate the poor babies so I am very aware of the damage ants can do to birds. cheers, kath

Hi defieldsfamily; Bush detecting.....I go gold prospecting, you may be more familiar with that? Going bush means we hitch up our caravan or trailor, to our car & drive into normally deep bush amongst our native trees & animals etc. Here we set up our camp, I then put my detecting harness on etc & then grab my metal detector & go off in search of gold. I LOVE this lifestyle!! VERY hardwork, I can go days without finding a single gold nugget! Mainly the gold is very small but it adds up! Come evening, we light a campfire [when safe to do so],cook a barbie [bbq] meal while enjoying a relaxing drink while its cooking!!! Ratsy I would think you are correct saying you use the term woods & we say bush! Americans are you?..my ex son-in-law is an American. Hope this helps, always happy to do this. cheers,Kath.oooopppss, sorry..I have just noticed on the side of the page it states where we are from etc!!! Ratzy...don't suppose you are from Sherbrook???...Yep a BIG place Canada but you never know if you don't ask!!!!!...cheers, Kath

Many thanks for the warm welcome & the replies. Maybe someone has had problems taking their bird/birds with them? If so that info could be of help!! Will certainly keep to same food, take home water but think maybe I should also take bottled water [bought]...guessing they could also get upset tummy from change of water? Do you think this bottled, spring water would be safe? We go bush for often about 3 months at a time! We did not think we would be able to go bush again & that is how came to getting these dear budgies!! Cheers, Kath

Hi Everyone, I am delighted to find such a friendly & helpful forum. My last budgie I had for years & when he passed away I was sooo upset it has taken me 11years to get another!! This time I bought two lovely boys'..not babies like the last budgie....I have had them for 6 months & they are such sweeties BUT I am off bush detecting late April & NOW!! I am wondering what I am going to do as I do not want to leave them with anyone! Please, has anyone gone bush with a budgie in tow?? We have a small caravan & take our small dog...they all get on well...Budgies are kept in a good sized cage. Any advice, tips etc greatly welcomed. Thanks, Kath
