Loads Of Fun Flying
Since I last was on the site which was before the computer crashed I purchased a very large flight cage for all my breeding pairs offspring to fly around in. They seem to all get along really well and really love flying around with eachother. I've noticed that some of the weeker ones that I hand fed have now gained muscle mass and look wonderful. I just wanted to share some pictures of all of my babies in thier new big cage!! left to right: Huey (my first hatchling baby ever), Bozette his sister from a different clutch, Monk, his brother from his clutch, My recessive pied hatched in December, and My little "popcorn" bird Jiffy you can't see her yellow highlights in the photo. This guy below is the sibling of the recessive pied baby above. They hatched in December. They are the first and only babies so far from my recessive pied male, Mr Tweekers and female, Meanie. Meanie is currently in her nest box sitting on nine eggs so hopefully these two guys will have some siblings soon. Here he is again, two others joined him on the perch These are the guys from the first two photos, just in slightly different positions. I just noticed that someone is hiding in the back of Huey and Bozette. I was wondering what kind of mutation is a white/yellow bird with red eyes called anyway?? Just wanted to say that there are about 6 other birds in the cage as well. They were being brats and didn't want to "pose" for the camera. They are all green and are siblings of bozette. The greens are babies of my male Booger (normal green) and Mama Tweet (opaline sky blue). Mama tweet is also currently in her nest box sitting on nine eggs. Reason for edit: Removed the duplicate part.

I Got A New Addition. What Mutation Is He?
hello everyone, Havent' been on in a while, computer was broke. Since then, I have gotten 3 new additions, a white/yellow with red eyes named Jiffy after Jiffy pop popcorn, because she looks like a piece of popcorn LOL. Just adopted a normal blue female, someone threw her in a petshop in a yogurt cup and said they didn't want her anymore...so sad so I took her. And then I got a pretty male that is going to be paired with my recessive pied female Bugle she has been pretty lonely since her mate died a few months back. I tried to get as many pictures as I can but it is hard to get the exactly look of him. He is a pretty pastel mix of light blue, light green, light yellow, and white, his markings are really light grey. It is hard to see them in the photos. Let me know what you think?? Sorry if pictures are hard to figure him out. He is a little hyper bird. I really like him.

Stewart
Well my computer is broken, so I finally got to a computer. This is two weeks late. This is my first budgie death I have ever dealt with. It has been hard. My albino Budgie Stewart had gotten sick. He lost his site and took a turn for the worst. I lost him on January 25th. I feel terrible that I didn't even have him a year. He had turned a year old but I had't had him a year yet. It just hurts that I couldn't help him sooner. It happened so quickly. He was paired wth a recessive pied. Since his passing she has been so loud. She called the other birds and actually calls me when I leave the room. I feel bad for her I think she is a little lonely. When is a good time to find her a new mate?? I guess I am just feeling bad that I already want to replace him. I will never replace my little Stewart I just want Bugle to be happy. R.I.P. My Cute Little Baby!! I will always remember and love you!!

Need Help Asap!
Oh **** you guys. After I got off the internet earlier I sat quietly and really observed their behavior. I think I know what the problem was. Mr Tweekers does not want them to leave the nest. He freaks out when they want to come out and he knocks them in the head to knock them back in the nest box. Meanie sits on the perch and chirps to them, I think she is encouraging them to sit on the little perch next to the nestbox. When one of the babies tried to do this, Mr Tweekers would come flying and attack Meanie and push the baby back in. So I figured that it was him that I needed to remove. Then I came on here and seen that I should have removed her. Should I put the dad back and take the mom out now??? She seems alot more calm now that he is out of the cage, she is eating seeds and her cuttle bone and also talking to the babies. They seem like they want to come out and seem more confident now that he is gone. Do you think that I need to put him back in then since the father is the one that takes care of them at this age?? She is feeding them, but if it isn't going to be enough then I will go ahead and take action. Thank You So much for your advice, you don't know how much that means to me. I'm really glad I found this forum. It's a good outlet for a beginner like me. The only way to learn is to go through it with a support system like this!!! Thanks A Million!! Jaime Oops I'm really sorry didn't mean to swear even though what I put wasn't really a swear word?/??

I figured I would take the time also to show you the pictures I took yesterday. Here is the over protective Mr. Tweekers Here is Meanie the Mother. She isn't the mean one right now, Mr Tweekers is Is Meanie an Opaline?? Here is one of the little babies, this one looks like Mr Tweekers and the other looks like Meanie. I really like this chick, I think it's really cute. LOL Mr. Tweekers won't let her near it. He is really overprotective with it.

Need Help Asap!
Hello, Gosh I feel like such a dumb dumb with all these questions but I ran into another problem. okay so the two babies that are currently in the nest should be ready to come out either this week or next. Well for some reason all of the sudden Mr. Tweekers and Meanie are fghting over the nest box. It started out yesterday just kinda chattering and pecking eachother now today it has been full blown fighting. I don't get what happened. They have been raising the babies wonderful together. Mr Tweekers won't let her near the nestbox and won't let her feed them. She keeps trying to get in there to sit with them. Now he feeds them alot and she sits in there with them at night. My question is, Which one of the parents do I remove?? Also does anyone have any idea why out of the blue they are acting like this?? Also do I have to worry about this with any of the pairs future babies?? Thanks So Much, Hope to hear from someone soon before they kill eachother, Best Regards, Jaime

New Babies
okay so one looks like mom and one looks like dad. I got some pictures of the one I will post tomorrow. It is a really cute little chick. He fell out of the nest today. Could barely walk and the parents were going crazy. So I helped him back up. The parents are happy now and so is baby he looked a little cold.

Changed Behavior When Separated Into Pairs?
Ahhh yes. You see I did remove the nest box in mama tweet and boogers cage and they have stopped the mating but do still play and keep eachother company. The breeding cages I have them in are pretty roomy and big. So I shall remove the nestbox in Stewart and Bugles cage. Do you think that they do not like eachother anymore or lost interest in eachother?? Because it seems when I removed the nestboxes in the other cages the pairs were no breeding but still seemed to be interested in eachother. Do you think maybe one is sick? Or infertile? They don't seem to be ill but maybe I am missing something. I will though take your adivice and thank you for your response!!! Jaime

Changed Behavior When Separated Into Pairs?
okay so I wasn't sure what forum subject to put this into. So I decided to put it into behavior. This may be long and winded so please bare with me. So I had gotten my first 2 budgies back in 2009, from 2 became 3, 4, then 5. Well they were all placed into a small flight cage together before I really decided to breed them and before I became a member of this forum and got information that I needed to keep 5 budgies in one cage, plus breeding information. Well I went ahead and ordered breeding cages because I seen them starting to pair off, Mama Tweet with Booger, Bugle with Stewart and Mr. Tweekers was left alone. Well while they still were living in the same cage mama t and booger started to mate which is why I placed a nest box in the cage (which I know now wasn't a good idea because mama tweet got aggressive with bugle which is a female.) So mama tweet took over the nestbox and I noticed Bugle wanted to use it. So I took bugle, stewart, and mr tweeker and put them in a separate cage. Also put a nestbox in the new cage. Almost instantly bugle and stewart bred and bugle laid two eggs. Sitting on them only for a week then leaving them alone. So I disgarded them being that they were infertile. Bugle had continued to mate with stewart during that whole spring and summer but never laid anymore eggs and seem uninterested in the nestbox. I decided to get Mr.Tweekers out of the cage since I thought maybe that is why she is uncomfortable, Plus I wanted to pair him up with Meanie a female I had bought early 2010. So Mr. Tweekers was removed and paired off. Bugle and Stewart began to court in full force at the time Tweekers was removed but still no eggs. I had rearranged the bird room since I had gotten new, nicer cages for all plus Booger and Mama tweets first babies were about to be removed from there cage so I needed to rearrange. By this time it seemed Bugle was interested in the nestbox again. So I figured that maybe she liked the new location of the cage. But to my dismay she never laid any eggs. They had continued to court through the end of summer but I think about october they both have became quiet, she doesn't go near the nestbox anymore and she doesn't seem interested in Stewart anymore. She plays with her toys and goes about her merry way. Stewart has seemed to become uninterested in her now, because she ignores him. So it will be a year in the first week of March since she has laid her only 2 eggs. Has this ever happened to anyone before?? Did I do something wrong?? It doesn't seem like I did but who knows. Thanks For Reading this and sorry so long, Jaime

New Babies
Oh really so opalines have the same colors. That is interesting. Well since she is a new mama and i wasn't sure what kind of mom she is at this point I really didn't want to put a camera in there. Mama Tweet my first mom was fine when I went in the nest. Before "Meanie" which is the mother of the babies, was paired with Mr. Tweekers the recessive pied male, she was pretty nippy with us and we all used to laugh that she goes out of her way to lure your finger to the side of the cage to nip your finger. So I wasn't sure if she was going to be a testy mother or not which is why I was nervous about putting a camera in there. I don't really check the nest box of Meanie as often as I did with mama tweet's nestbox.

New Babies
Hi Everyone, I am a new breeder and the only two clutches that I ever had were from the same pair. Which would be the two below. Mama Tweet and Boogie Now all of their babies turned out to be some sort of green color. Now I have paired up a second pair that is Male:Recessive pied blue and Female:Normal Sky Blue they have produced 7 eggs only 2 have hatched three weeks ago. My question is when my green babies were tiny in the nest box their down feathers were off white to grey and the wings looked grey blue of course they turned out green. Well I checked on the other pairs chicks yesterday and their down feathers are super bright white and on the top of their scrawny ,but cute, little wings they have deep black spots. Do ya'll think that the babies will be recessive pied. Like I said I'm new at this so I am used to my first pairs chicks. I figured I'd ask people with more experience. I probably could just wait til the babies get feathers, but, I am just curious!! I guess I'm just nosey. LOL!! By the way here is a picture of the father. The mother is not pictured with him. Thanks Everyone

Quick Question About Food?

Quick Question About Food?
So I have come to notice the more birds you have the more food goes....Of course!! Well I was wondering about mixing my own food. My uncle used to breed canaries back in the day, he used to mix his own seed my dad told me. So is this mix good for everyday feeding?? For parakeets. 2 Parts White Millet 3 Parts canary seed 1 Part Hemp Seed (if avbl) 1/2 Oat Groat Also for molting and conditioning what should I add?? My dad also told me that he used to boil eggs and smush them up including the shells and feed it to the female canaries when they were breeding. Could this method be used for budgies?? Thanks, Have an Awesome day, Jaime

I Was Wondering About Color?
I actually just found these two pictures of Mama Tweet. Her and the Recessive Pied Male Mr. Tweekers are the first parakeets I have ever owned. So she and he are pretty special to me. Mr Tweekers actually just became a daddy for the first time a week ago, he is paired with a sky blue female that I adopted from someone. They have 2 chicks so far and 5 more eggs to go. Mama Tweet is the female who gave me my first parakeet chicks so like I said she is a pretty special bird to me. The pictures are actually from when i first brought them home. This was way before I even had booger. Here is my girl Mama Tweet. Oh man...I need to chuckle. Disregard the yellow on MTweets face. The color is actually from a pear mineral block she has been munching on. I forgot to mention it. I was just about to clear that up when you replied back. Thank you so much for your feedback. This is very interesting to me. I too thought that maybe Mama is opaline but I am just starting out and trying to understand colors so I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks So Much for your reply.

I Was Wondering About Color?
Wow you say that Amelia's brothers are sisters?? Well I have been questioning one of the brothers. I removed Amelia from the cage the 4 of them were in because they kept head bobbing at her and trying to climb on top of her. So I figured she was the only girl and removed her from them three. All they do is head bob eachother all day. So I thought they were boys. They act just like their dad. As for the chicks with the different tails, yea I realize it would be hard to see from the pictures. They just have different color tails from eachother. Some have really blue some really green to teal and some have really yellow. Here is daddy Booger..... Here is hen, Mama Tweet is her name. I'll try to find a better photo of her since she was in the nest box with her chicks at the time.......

I Was Wondering About Color?
Hello Again, I have finally gotten around to taking pictures of the two clutches I have talk about concerning color. I know most of them are green. I know most of you told me that their color will molt out but I just figured I would show you guys pictures anyway. This is Amelia, she is the first female chick I have ever gotten. Her hate date is August 31st 2010. So she is about 4 months old. These are Amelia's Brothers from the same clutch as her. Pickles, Monk and Huey Above are Monk and Pickles, they are pasty green with marbled blue and green chest. Their markings are more dark brown then black Below is Huey. Huey looks just like his dad light green with black markings Huey's hatch date is August 25th 2010 and Pickles and Monk hatched on the same exact day, August 28th 2010 Here is another picture of Huey.. The three Brothers together Now this is the Third Clutch from the same parents. These are the ones that I am weaning right now. They are doing very well. I figured I would show you guys a few pictures of them too. Now some of these chicks came out darker than their older siblings, Amelia, Monk, Pickles and Huey. But their tails came out with more variety to them. Also one of them barely has any stripes and one is green but has a blue butt. Well here they are...... Blue butt....HAHA different tail colors? The one on the top is the one I was talking about that hardly has stripes He or she kinda stands out in he crowd Here he or she is alone They all make me laugh. I love these little guys By the way, the six chicks hatch dates are from October, 22nd to November 4th 2010. One of their siblings was killed by their mother.

I Was Wondering About Color?
Oh that is interesting. It is kinda sad too though. I like their color, I think it looks cool. My 4 month olds are molting now. The color is still there but I guess it happens over time right? It is very interesting to know though. Thank you for the response.

I Was Wondering About Color?
Hello everyone, I do want to give a big thanks to some of you on here again who have helped me with hand feeding questions!! There is a question I have about color. I have a light green normal male and a sky blue normal female. They have had a clutch of 4 in September and a recent clutch of 7, only 6 survived. Anyways I had just became a member of a budgie club in october and they sent me a really good guide to color with pictures and everything, I sat down to read it today and just now I read the color guide on this forum. Great information!! I'm just a little confused because of the chicks colors I've got. Their first clutch of four I have 3 males and a female. One male looks alot like the father so I just have him as light green normal. The others look opaline in the wings but the body color mostly on the chest is what I a confused about, they all have a swirl or marbling of green and blue mixed. Almost like if you took green and blue paint and just swirled it around. The Second clutch of 6 have opaline wings also. The chest colors are also blue and green but in the second clutch it is spotted instead of swirled. Also with one of them it is a really bright teal color from the front of the neck to mid way of the chest and the lower half is exactly the color of it's mother, blue. They are really weird colors. Could this be because the mom is blue and dad is green and the colors just mashed up?? I'm just wondering because in my color guide I didn't read anything about the swirling of blue and green. I hope I made sense!! Thanks So Much. I know it would probably be easier with pictures when I got time I'll try to take some pics of the birds. My young birds are very skittish of cameras and different objects so I'll try to catch them when they are tired of something. Thanks, Jaime
