  1. The boy budgie has previously had a blue cere, and the girls was a whitish grey colour. Both of them have turned to a browny colour, but it doesnt appear to be scale face, I've had a budgie with that before. I'm away for the next couple of days and have someone else looking after them. I'll get some pictures on sunday and post them up.
  2. Hi, 2 of my 3 budgies have had the feathers on thier wings turn brownish in colour. They were fine yesterday morning, but look really bad this morning. I didn't look at them last night to see how they were. They seem otherwise healthy, other than all 3 have recently developed brownish ceres. I have a boy, a girl, and an unknown, cause it's cere was damaged when I took it in 2 years ago, and has never looked anythinkg other than scabby brown. The boy and girls ceres turned brownish looking a week or so ago. There is no rust on the cage, and they havent been moved or exposed to anything new, the cage is under a semi enclosed verandah with a fly screen covering. The two birds are green and pale blue/white in colour. The one that is unaffected is the male which is a medium blue. Their regular diet is budgie mix from a pet shop, with occasional corn cobs or apple, though they havent had the fruit and veg for a coouple of weeks. There's been nothing new introduced to their diet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. We've bought George a mirror for now. It's taken her a few days to even move around the cage much- she just sits in a corner, moves to eat then goes back to the corner. But finally this morning she is looking into the mirror talking to herself (or calling to Fred). But at least she's shown interest in something. We've refined the choices. We're looking at either getting a cockatiel to keep in a separate cage next to her, so they both have company without being too close company. Or a hand raised budgie - my husband really wants a tame bird, and despite all his efforts with Fred and George it didn't happen. I'm pushing for the budgie, but in the end it's his bird to make the final decision. We're hopefully going to a bird farm this weekend to have a chat to them and see whats about.
  4. Hello, I'm Beth, and new to the forum. My budgie is George. She (we think) is a yellow/green Budgie. The rest of our family consists of 1 other human, 1 bearded dragon, 2 golden retrievers, 2 dwarf lop bunnies. One new years eve, I was delivering to an RSL club, and the gardener found a budgie in the garden bed. We tried to let it go, and it flew into a glass wall. It's cere was all scabby and bleeding, and there wasn't really anywhere more open to let it go, and no vets were open so I took it home to recover for the night then tried to let it go again the next day. It seemed really tame, and wanted to stick around, so we bought a flight cage and it seemed happy enough. The cere has always remained a bit scabby looking, but it seems brown under the scab, so we think George is a girl. Then we decided it would probably be lonely, so bought Fred (a male). Well they seemed happy for the past 2 years, but Fred died on Saturday(we're not sure why), and now George seems lonely. She chirps all the time (much more than she ever has before) Fred used to be the more noisy one. We're looking at a few options- finding her a home with other budgies, buying another budgie for her, or my husband would like a cockatiel, but opionions seem to be divded on housing budgies and cockatiels together. I'd really like some of your opinions on what you think would be best for George. If this is posted in the wrong area, just let me know and I can post it elsewhere. Thanks guys!
