Adding A Larger Parrot To My Flock.
I'm beginning to think a conure isn't a great idea... I've felt the same way as you about my budgie that escaped last year. Don't want to replace him but I saw tame budgies at pet stock today and they were trying their damnedest to get my attention and it made me miss the interaction I used to have with my missing one. (the good looking guy in my avatar). The only problem then is what happens when it meets my rebel birds with bad habits. Do untamed birds affect a tame one if they're all in the same cage? Hezz, I've assumed I'm allergic to cockatiels so I haven't considered them really. They don't appeal to me a great deal anyway.

That sounds fair. I figured I wouldn't lose any little feet from walking on the big bird's cage because the budgies aren't explorers. Does your Green Cheek terrorize the budgies? Or vice versa?

Adding A Larger Parrot To My Flock.
Hi everyone, I've been thinking of getting a larger parrot, but I'm not sure what would be the best thing to do. I have two un-tamed budgies that are both about a year old. They are both clipped and generally don't leave their cage, they'll sit on top and mind their own business/ give me intimidating looks. I have been trying my best to find out the best species of parrot to get to live with the birdles (in a different cage), and it seems like Green Cheeks are the way to go. Does anyone have any experience with bigger birds with their budgies? Mine are pretty placid and don't explore or act curious... they have a beautiful new play gym which they won't go near  So, if there is a particular bird that anyone knows of that are known to be pretty co-operative of two little birds I'd love to hear suggestions! Thanks!

Something Wrong With My Birdy.
Thanks everyone. After I called the vet and blubbered on the phone I went downstairs to find her sitting on the perch and not so puffed up so I left the vet to this morning. I set up a lamp for her too. She was perfectly fine when I woke up this morning. The vet didn't find anything wrong either. I'm keeping an eye on her but it seems as though she just had an upset stomach? I appreciate everyone's help and I'm glad my girl's back to her chirpy, unfriendly self!

Thanks guys. The nearest avian vet I can find near me (Mildura) is 5 hours away in Moama. I don't know what to do.

Something Wrong With My Birdy.
Hi everyone, Today after work, mum told me that my female budgie had been acting weird all day (puffed up and not sitting on the perches, clinging to the side of the cage instead). She is still puffed up and not on a perch and she is also sitting on my hand voluntarily (she isn't tame... at all). She isn't moving around but her wings are trembling. She tried flying away (not getting far with her wings clipped) and when she landed her wings went into a vertical position like she was stretching but they stayed like that without going down. Her bum is perfectly clean, too. ALSO,her cere is usually a whitish colour but at the moment is a purple-blue colour. She is about a year old. Hope that is the right sort of information and thanks for any help.

Found Grass Parrot
Thanks guys. She died during the night... I couldn't have expected a half dead baby bird to survive, could I? I figure something would have eaten her outside seeing as she couldn't fly or walk, so I'm glad I gave her a warm bath and some attention which she seemed to want. Lesson definitely learned in regards to rescuing birds, though.

Found Grass Parrot
Thanks guys, great advice I guess i panicked with the meds I gave her a little bath to clean her up, she's still not eating, I've given her normal bird seed, is there anything specific they eat? Being a fledgling, does that mean Mum's just sent her to fend for herself? Should I put her back where I found her? I am looking around for lost bird ads, doesn't seem very healthy for a pet, though. Also, could she be spreading germs or diseases around my house? She's in the laundry and I don't want to give everyone some kind of wild bird disease... Thanks again everyone!

Found Grass Parrot
Hi all, I came across what I assume is a female grass parrot. I think she is a baby still and she has a very dirty bum and maybe diarrhea as well. She isn't eating either but is drinking a little. I sprayed her with bird some lice spray and put worming stuff in her water. I don't really know a lot about parrots, I'm a budgie person. I'll be looking in the papers to see if she's a pet but I doubt that she is. She was found in amongst some grapevines where there was some of that locust spray used so would that have affected her? Would really appreciate some help, she's a lovely tame thing so I'd like to get her healthy... There also aren't any avian vets around here. Thanks, Lisa.

Itchy Bum
Hmm he's not going to like that! He's very sociable. I'll separate them and get the worming drops I've seen in the pet shop. His poo is normal, a little bit wet if anything.

Itchy Bum
Hi all, today I noticed my budgie has been scratching his bottom almost constantly with his feet and mouth. He's all puffed up and it looks very uncomfortable.. Is this something normal that happens? I'm not too sure how long I've had him :hmm: but it hasn't been a year. About a month ago I got a new baby, they've been sharing food and kisses but the baby seems healthy. I'd really appreciate some help with this.. I love my birdy
