Help With Sexing
so KAZ, do you think they're all female cos because they all have white on the cere? I thought that they all looked like hens too. Just another question, what if the cere has no white but is rather a fleshy pink? instead of a bluish pink? Would that be a hen too or a cock?

Pictures Of My Opaline Spangle
Here are some photos of my male budgie. I think he's a sky blue opaline spangle, although he also has many other interesting markings on his wing and head (two white spots) and parts of him are violet. Does anyone think he is also part something else?

Help With Sexing
Hi there, when I first posted a picture of teddy on the forum I was told that he/she was a girl. This picture was taken a few weeks later, would you still agree that teddy's female? Here are two more budgies that I'm having trouble sexing, they have small white rings on the nostrils so I'm guessing they're both female? Also, why do some budgies have orange beaks and others the horn colour? thanks

Recessive Pied Ceres/ Sexing
Hi there, what is the appearance and colour of a male recessive pied chick's cere and a female recessive pied chick's cere and what colours do they develop into as the bird reaches maturity? I only know that adult males have a pinky purple cere but what does it look like when they're very young? And I'm totally lost as to how the females look. I was just at the pet store today and didn't end up buying any birds because they all looked male to me! Also, how can you determine the age? Because they never get the white rings, they always look like babies. I guess I just look at thier feet.

Some Colour/pairing Questions
Thank you It's really interesting hearing your suggestions so if anyone else also has ideas, I'd love to hear them! I've been looking to get a green/yellow recessive pied but they're really hard to come by around here. How do we tell recessive pied chicks from double factor dominant pied chicks? They look the same to me! I read that recessive pieds have a belly patch, do they always have that?

Some Colour/pairing Questions
I like: recessive pieds double factor dominant pieds dilutes lutinos albinos the budgies with very pale yellow faces and pale blue body colour which look spangled (not sure what those are called but they're not the normal yellowfaces) Here's a link to one that I like (the sky blue, yellowface (typeII), opaline, clearwing budgie on the third row) http://www.budgieplace.com/v_combinations.html I also like clearbodys, lacewings and double factor spangles. Knowing the colours of the two budgies I have now what colours should I pair them with to get any of the colours stated above? Here's a website with really good pictures of the colours I'm talking about http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html#spangle

Sexing Inos
Hi there, Is sexing lutino, albino, creamino etc budgie chicks the same as for normal budgies? Do females have the white around the nostrils and males don't? Also, what do the cere colours develop into for adult birds? I read that the males ceres become purplish pink and the females more of a tan pink. Thought i'd double check. I also read that the Ino gene is sex linked so it's more likely that Ino birds are female.

Some Colour/pairing Questions
Hi there, I have a normal light green budgie with a yellow spot on his head and I was wondering what colour budgie I should pair him with in order to produce the most interesting colours? I'm not sure what colour his parents were but I know that his brothers and sisters from the same clutch were dominant pieds (yellow and green) and some cinnamons or spangles (didn't get a good look at the wing patterns, also shades of pale olive green). He was the only normal wild type coloured budgie in the clutch. I'm assuming that my Henry will also possibly be carrying some other genes? Secondly, I also have a blue spangle opaline and I'm also wondering what you recommend I pair him with. Not sure about the colours of the parents or siblings this time! Thank you in advance

How Blue Can A Hen's Cere Be?
So some hens can start out with blue/white ceres but they always turn brown eventually? My budgie does not have white rings around the nostrils, he has a medium blue coloured cere and has quite pale blue rings around the nostrils. So you can see why I'm having a problem because his cere colour doesn't fit the hen or cock description. I would have thought if he were male, it would have turned really and fully blue right now given that it is breeding season and he is a couple of years old.

How Blue Can A Hen's Cere Be?
Hi I've got two budgies and I'm not sure about the sex of one of them. (I haven't uploaded any photos because by looking at the photo you'll probably think he's a cock as the colour will change with photos and the cere is blue) however! he's about two years old, a spangled blue colour and his cere is not extremely blue but still not pale enough to definitely be a female. I have another bird with him who's over a year old and his cere is a brilliant blue colour at the moment, however the bird in question although older does not have a cere as blue as his. There is still quite a big difference and I thought if it is breeding season of which it is right now, his cere should be like the younger bird's if he was male. Basically, he's two years old, spangled, his cere is a medium shade of blue, not pale and quite lighter than my other bird's if you compare the two. Is there a possibility that my bird is a hen based on the facts? Or do spangled birds just have lighter ceres?? I don't think uploading a picture would help so if you could take a guess from the information about him =) Also, I don't think my birds are showing much breeding behaviour. The bird with the very blue cere often preens the one with the lighter cere and the two kiss and pretend to feed each other very occassionally but it doesn't look like they're a pair, do males exhibit this kind of behaviour?
