Yeah he is acting like his usual self; eating, drinking, dancing and singing as normal
Hopefully the antibiotics will clear the cyst right up. Yeah i don't think I will go ahead with the test...seems like a waste of money. Might look for an avian vet tomorrow.
Thankyou very much for your help! It was indeed very helpful.
No I don't think she is. We had to take him to an emergency vet as not many vets were open on Monday as it was a public holiday and the vet we take our other animals to doesn't really specialize in birds. I would like to take him to an avian vet but I am not sure of any in the Newcastle region. From the looks of it though he probably does have an abscess.
Hello,
I have had my budgie Sherbet for 6 years and always thought that he was a male as he has a distinctive blue cere.
Recently I noticed he was breathing faster than usual so I took him to the vet.
The vet discovered a quite large lump (which if he was a female the vet would have though was an egg) on his abdomen and after completing some tests she concluded that the lump was an abscess.
I was given antibiotics to give to Sherbet to hopefully get rid of the abscess and was told if the lump did not decrease in size significantly in about 4 days it would need to be removed.
I spoke to the vet again today and she is not 100% sure it is an abscess.
She said there is a chance that Sherbet is a female budgie as some female budgie have a blue cere (which would mean that it could be an egg).
He is getting a DNA test on Monday.
I am just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar to this before or knows about female budgies with blue ceres.
Thanks a lot
These are the best photos I could find.
