Planning An Aviary
Thanks Kaz, just a rough sketch I sent to a steel frame mob with dimensions for a price. The original plans had mesh starting 600mm off the ground to the roof. I will check local council requirements re: heights. Very keen to get started but I want to get it right.

Planning An Aviary
Hi, after much debate I have been granted W.A(wife approval) to start planning/building an aviary I've been ringing up a storm getting prices on various materials but thought it best to get some basics out of the way first. Any advice you may have is appreciated. The dimensions of the aviary are 4000mm long x 1500mm deep x 2000-2200 high(skillion roof with 300mm eves) set on a concrete slab. The 4000mm front will be facing west and exposed to the afternoon sun, I'm keen to insulate if I can find a light weight/bird safe wall lining. I'd like to use 1500mm x 1200mm area at the southern end as a safe enrty point and storage area. The remaining 3000mm will be for the birds. The plan was to mesh an area 600mm from the ground on the northern end which would include the northern face and 1200mm from the northern end on both the east and western sides. The only other mesh areas would be a security door and window on the southern end. As we live quite close to the beach the southerlys can be quite strong so I'm in two minds about a screen window and door on the southern end. Is the mesh area mentioned to large or small for the aviary size? Will the air flow be sufficient? Whatdaya rekon?

Advice Please
Thanks Kaz and Generic, he was on his own when we first got him but we've since put another male in with him to prevent him from being bored. He and Tic Tok have half a dozen toys so I wouldnt think it's boredom. Is there any info on this site re: french moult? Thanks again for sharing

Advice Please
Hi, can anyone offer advice or a solution to our problem? It seems Bender has been ripping out his flights feathers. I noticed some blood on the underside of his wing a couple of weeks ago. I checked again today after spotting more blood. I haven't caught him in the act but i'm pretty sure he's taking them out himself. Bender came home with no long tail feathers and no flight feathers, we just assumed it was because he was so young. Is this something he will always do? Will he grow out of it? Any advice is appreciated.

Hello
Thanks for tips guys, very much appreciated. I've managed to pick up the details of one breeder, his yard and avery are clean and the birds look healthy so I might get a few from him...just need to find another breeder to get the rest from. The opalines are spectacular. "Budgie Bob" as i've dubbed him, has some beautiful "blue and green ones" that I'd like to pick up but he also has what i'm calling a fellow face blue(but might be a fellow face cobalt from what i've seen from pics on here) as well as a yellow faced grey and yellow with flecks of blue....I should write a list of the birds I want to get! I'm enjoying checking out peoples picture on their profiles at the moment, there are some awsome colours.

Hello
Hi everyone, my name is Landau, I'm from Lake Macquarie(30mins south of Newcastle) NSW. I'm new to the site and relatively new to Budgies. The Kids and I picked up our Budgie "Bender" 2weeks ago. Benders' approximately 6weeks old, he's mainly white with sky blue on his lower back and belly(I'll post pics soon), he's fit into the family really well with his easy going nature. FAQs has been great to read, but it's a little early to try and get my head around genetics. I'm really interested in learning about the colours and variations. I have picked up a few bits and peices from people posting pics with descriptions but I still don't even know what a pied is !!! I'm planning on starting up a mini avery, with upto about 6 birds. Would love to hear any suggestions people may have about colours I should start with. Some of the birds I've seen from peoples posts are amazing. Blue/Yellow birds seem to be my fav but after visiting a local breeders place I could easily go crazy. Should I try and stick to limited colour range if I intend to breed or should I just mix it up? Also, how much should I pay? Thinking of purchasing from a few different breeders to mix it up a bit. Is it possible to have half a dozen birds that are as friendly and easy to handle as Bender? should I keep him separate? Love to hear any your suggestions.
