I have this one breeding pair that I think how thye got together might be a pretty good love story. I decided to get my one year male budgie a female friend cause his male roommate and him didn't really hit it off. So a week later I got a female budgie that I naned Kitsy, and im assuming shes one year old cause she was kinda grouchy and there were no bars on her head and her cage mate at the time was a male that my mom decided to buy cause my male budgie's roommate would be alone and she named him Jakey, and the pet store owner said that she would still mate with another male. So I brought her home and put her in with my budgie (Tweegy). But after a few minutesi noticed her vent was swollen, now keep in mind i was just begining breeding so i didn't know what that was, so i took her back and the owner calmly said " ohh, yep she's gonna have a baby, i found a egg in her cage today but i thought it was from another female". So I brought her home and the next day she had the egg which i later found out was infertile. So about a month has passed and Tweegy spent countless times trying to mate with her, but she only pecked him and sometimes kicked him. So i decided that maybe if there was another pair they would calm down, so i got another pair. Well that didn't work out like i thought it would, after a while Tweegy started showing the female in the other cage more attention and kitsy was fed up with it and started attacking him. So i put him with the other female, Eve, and i will tell what happened to her mate, or should i say sister in another story, so me and my mom started talking about how Jakey was such a gouch and didn't like humans at all and how scared he got, and how grouchy Kitsy was too, so we decided to put them together and they were so happy, Jakey was no longer scared and grouchy and neither was Kitsy and we figured out that they must have been mates before, and two days ago they mated and they have spent almost all night in their nest box. So what do u think, do u think they were mates before?

i was gonna ask on yahoo answers but i know that everyone here knows more than people there, i got a few questions i want cleared up: 1. i live in the eastern part of the usa and since its september fall will be coming soon, i want to know is a budgies natural breeding season in the eastern us in the fall or spring? and how many months does it last? and what times of the day to they like to mate? is it in the morning or the evening or both? 2. my female budgie has been getting all puffed up for about a week or two. shes not always puffed up but she does alot, is she sick? or is does she have an egg in her? or is she just threatened by me? 3.my female budgie that is single is obssesed with her mirror. like she'll sit there all day long watching her reflection. The thing that concerns me is that she stays with that mirror more than she eats, like has each day passes she cuts her eating time down, the others eat2-3 times an hour, she used to be like that, but now she is only eating once an hour and today she only ate once within a 3 hour period just so she could be with that mirror. now i know the simple answer is "remove the mirror" i tryed that, she went crazy, when i took it out she flew around the cage looking for it, she didnt eat for the 4 hours i had it out ( i stayed in the room the whole time it was out) and she eventually started yelling untill i put it back. also lately shes been wanting to mate with it, like she'll go over peck it and sit like she wants it to mate with her, she'll put her tail in the air like a female sits when they r mating. and the thing that is so heart breaking is that when all 7 r out of their cage, she is always alone, not even her own sister wants her around, her sister will kick her and bite at her untill she moves, and all 7 pairs off even the single males sit together and feed each other and i just feel terrible seeing her alone, it almost makes u want to cry seeing her getting pecked at just cause she wants a friend, i hate seeing her like that. so i thought about it, i dont want to mate her, two breeding pairs r enough and two females is just a mistake, so i heard that budgies and cockiteils like being together, the cage shes in is huge, well at least for one bird, her cage is bigger than the one breeding pairs cage, the cage was ment for birds like cockiteils and lovebirds so i could get her a cockitiel friend, the local pet store sells them for $90 and i get $82 a month, so i could save up for two months and after that, considering i would need to get budgie and tiel food, i could do that too, the store sells that for $3 and the only things i would need to do before i would get one is get a perch for a cockiteil right?so what do u all think about my female busgies behavior? and do u think getting a cockitiel would help her? or is there something else i could do? thanks in advance

Instead of going to yahoo answers i'd thought i'd ask here, okay, my female has been out of breeding condition since june, in june the day after i got her she laid an infertile egg, then right after she laid it the next week she went out of breeding condition, her cere wnet from tan to light blue/white and right now she has a light blue/white cere with a very tiny bit of tan, its been like this for about 2 weeks, so when do u think she will go back in breeding condition? and the other female has been out of breeding condition since i got her in july, so when do u think they will go back in condition?

hey everyone, im new one here so i'll describe myself, im 17 and i just recently decided to breed budgies and i found out about this site from yahoo answers when Karen told me about this site. So i have 7 budgies, 5 of which are mine, the other 2 are my parents, i have 2 sets of breeding pairs, and the other one doesnt breed, ive tryed but she has way more interest in her mirror then breeding, none of the breeding pairs have had eggs yet but one pair is very close to it. Their names are: Tweegy-male, breeding, my first budgie i ever got Eve-female, Tweegys mate Jakey-male, breeding, my moms budgie Kitsy-female, Jakeys mate Adam-female, non-breeding, Eves younger sister Sammy- male, non-breeding, my dads budgie Gizmo-male, non-breeding, mine The story behind Adam is when i got her i named her adam thinking she was male but i later found out she was femal and didnt want to change her name. Jakey and Kitsy were mates before i got them and when i got them i seperated them, not knowing they were mates and but Kitsy with Tweegy and then me and my mom figured that jakey and kitsy were mates and put them back together and sammy needed a friend so i deciced to put one of my Baby budgies i recently bought for Kitsy to breed with with sammy so he had a friend. if u want to see my budgies i have a youtube account, (dwrwolves) if u want to see really good pictures of them.
