  1. How much did they cost each roughly? How much for postage too? Thanks
  2. Soluvite D breeder is an excellent product and yes I would be using that. You did not elaborate on your first post and I was saying really not the generic multivitamins. Sorry about that. It was the product that got me thinking about the whole subject.
  3. Yes all very true. Was just curious after reading Don Burke's article on here regarding the use of Soluvite D Breeder to help combat the lack of sunlight. Just thought for this to be successful it would need to be given all year round. Everybody has their different methods I guess.
  4. Just curious to hear peoples opinion on giving vitamins/supplements in drinking water while pairs are down to breed. Have read varying reports ranging from it being perfectly fine to a big no no due to the amount of water that is consumed at this time. Vitamins/supplements in the water at this time can apparently lead to poisoning. Any thoughts?
  5. Update - few more photos...........
  6. Thanks for that. Was just curious
  7. Have always wondered whether hens are capable of producing fertile eggs when their cere is not brown. Or is it that they just aren't interested?
  8. Yes I plan to. The Cock is split pied
  9. I have been very fortunate with an older friend from my work. He has kept and bred budgies for around 45 years. He has given me all of my birds for free (15 with a couple of losses!) He has also given his spare cage fronts for my breeding cabinets and loaned me his show boxes for our local agricultural show, which he is the chief steward. He gave a couple of spare ribbons to my daughter for encouragement(which she loved) even though she didn't win them! He has given me an endless supply of advice and put up with my silly questions and numerous visits to his house to look at his setup! I have been very lucky to have such a generous and knowledgable friend!
  10. Couple more pictures..............
  11. This is my first try at breeding "Harlequins". I'm using the sky normal cock to get the size into them. Cool, well if your focus is Recessive Pieds then this is the way to go! Remember that the chicks will be split for Rec Pieds/Harlequins and you'll need to breed 2 split Rec Pieds together to get the improvement. If you do not have another Rec Pied budgie to breed more splits to breed back to the chicks from this pair, I would recommend you let this pair do one round together and then split them up and introduce the hen to another cock bird. Yes thanks for that. My cock bird is already split. A very generous friend that i work with has given me all of my birds to get up and running. He already had a pair ready to go for me to save me a year. He also gave me another rec pied hen that was breed this year that I can use next year. Brilliant! So now you have answered your own question then  Thanks Renee. It's always good to hear other peoples thoughts and advice!
