  1. okay thanks very much , this little bird is about to go to my nephew as he is very friendly already and my nephews died
  2. okay so I know this is going to sound really dumb, but I know my colours sort of ( thanks Kaz ) but not that well. So I get the DF and the Spangle part but not the suffusion....a little help???
  3. I am lucky enough to have most of my aviaries in full shade at the hottest part of the day, but being in Northern Victoria my birds still feel it, we are getting one hot day after another here. I have shifted all of my breeding cages over to the dairy as it seems to be about 5 degrees cooler over in the big shed than it does at the house. The only problem that seems to be occurring due to the heat is the fact that it is literally cooking my eggs . We have had days of 46+ here and even in the shade the birds still get way to hot, I have opted for the sprinkler on the roof of the aviaries now just to try cool it down for them. I had 2 hens due to hatch 3 days ago and after the day of 47 I have just been out and they are all dead in the shell .If we keep getting these hot days I am going to put all my birds out and rest them until after the summer heat.
  4. I am just wondering what colour you would call this little fella, he is out of 2 sky blue spangles. There are 2 other babies out of the same nest they were both normal blues. You cant see it overly well in the picture but he has got slight grey marking on his wings. Any ideas??
  5. okay so what you have decided is that both are split for blue????? is this correct??
  6. Hi I have got 2 Lutino's they laid 5 eggs but only hatched 2 they are now colouring up, one is a very bright Lutino and the other is an Albino. Does this mean that either mum or dad are split for Albino?? and if so which one Mum or Dad??
  7. I have given him a good feed and put it out with mum and dad again to see what happens, maybe now that it is a bit healthier she will keep feeding it
  8. Thanks Maesie...I might try that but not sure how it will go as mum has 4 other bigger babies and both times I went out there the parents had pushed the baby right to the other end of the breeding box away from them and the other babies.
  9. I have bought one of my chicks inside as its mum hadn't fed it since last night and he was looking a bit worse for wear. I have decided to try and hand raise it, but I am not sure how I am going to keep it warm as I have no source of heat for it. Any ideas would be great. By the way the chick is 4 days old so he is a youngster
  10. okay so it seems one of my other hens has decided she is going to be a plucker too, only this time this hen has waited until all the pin feathers have well and truly started to come through then plucked them.......I am wondering could it be the hot weather? does the hen think that the chicks are getting too hot or something to that affect and plucking them thinking it may cool them down? I know this is probably not the cause but I can't think of any other reason. :WobbleSign:
  11. here are some pics of my chicks, I have younger ones too but I didnt want to upset them so I will take pics of them as they get older.
  12. I will try and get some pics today but, they are pretty bald babies around their heads and necks . I have a fair idea on what colors they are but then I have gotten the colors wrong lots of times on here I will try and get some pics today but, they are pretty bald babies around their heads and necks . I have a fair idea on what colors they are but then I have gotten the colors wrong lots of times on here Here are some pics of some of the babies. I will post other pics under my journal.
  13. I have just been outside and taken some pictures of my new birds.... This is a picture of my youngest Ino baby This is a picture of my new Lutino pair. This is my new Albino hen and her partner. This is another new hen. Colour?????? This is a picture of 2 out of the 3 babies that are now out in the aviary. And the last photo, it's just a random that I took while walking through the aviary.
  14. Dad is split ino and that makes it a little hen chick. Will be albino if mum is split blue, or lutino if she isnt. okay so we have white pin feathers so mum must be split for blue, correct?? Also my grey and white dominant pied hen x normal grey cock have hatched an Ino too, does same thing apply here? I finally got a pair of Lutino's so we will get Lutino babies now , also bought a new hen which I believe is a........hmmm, I will post photos of her later and ask what colour she is 99% chance I will get it wrong if I try and guess I have started to mark my eggs as I got myself a little confused with some babies this time round.
  15. No....I did not "Just go away for a few days", I had my mum checking my birds 3 times a day for the 2 days I was gone, and yes I put in some Millet and some chunks of bark which seems to have done the trick, and as I said she has stopped now and the chicks are getting all their pin feathers regrowing.
