Somethings Wrong
Walked past my new aviary today which hold 3 budgies that were given to me with the (secondhand) aviary and heard a little thump.... upon investigation i saw the female on the bottom of the aviary near the water bowl which i just placed in there. i thought "just having a drink until she could not fly back up to the perch..... she climbed up one side of the aviary and finally reached the perch and say next to the male which i thought was her mate... but the closer she got the male began to peck at her??? I took her out and bought her to the toilet which has no hazards at all and placed her down. she confirmed that there was definately something wrong when she tried to fly and only got to approx. 2 inches off the ground and then dropped. I had a look at her wings and they seem fine but im no expert. i also noticed here cere was raised, brown and crusty. this made me think that she may be pregnant but then thought could it be scaly face? ... looks almost the sam to me... she was flying today according to my wife so this has come to a but of a shock... any thoughts??? do they stop flying when pregnant?? HELP please... Ian

Hi All
Well to my horror i got home today and Foofie and her cage were nowhere to be found :fear :fear I asked my wife where she was and the reply i got was..." Damm bird pooped all over my bench and the carpet so i let her go and the cage is in the garage" I freaked out and my kids immediately said " its okay Daddy, she making friends now"... the freaking esculated... My 3yr old daughter then said Daddy come and see if she is still outside.... taking me to the patio..... I was gobsmacked to find that Foofie did in fact make some new friends in the new AVIARY.... :hooray: :hooray: :bliss:  My wife had spoken to our lovely neighbour who had approximately 38 budgies about our new addition to the family.... Sheryl (neighbour) told her that she had an aviary that she no longer used so we could have it.... She also gave us a breeding pair and a lone male.... AWSOME. the breeding pair are apparently not old and last lay produced 3 albino's... I could not take any pics as it was dark so this will be done tomorrow. God i love my wife.... damm woman is the best....... Ian

Hi All
Thank you for the kind comments.... A little update.... It seems that Foofie figured out that " because the big dude that gives me water and food puts his hand through that moving thing in the wall it must also be a way out." What you say?? Well to my surprise whilst putting the kids to bed we were visited by a "little birdy". She has obviously been busy when we're not home figuring out her escape route.... too much prison break i think..... Well it was a good time to get her back in the cage when i realised that she was settling down in my hand.... I took her to the bathroom and thought right trainig starts here.... So she sat on my hand for a while and flew off a couple of times because i startled her but when i got her back on my had she was okay.... nervous but okay.... Got some photos which ill post soon... Cheers Ian

July Budgie Of The Month
- Hi All
she seems to be happily sleeping right now so cannot confirm but 98%sure they are black. I have just spent the last few hours reading the FAQ's and im horrified that i may have frightened her by stroking her . Thanks Elly, i might pop a couple of pics in the comp and see how she goes Ian- Hi All
Thanks Kaz. Im assuming its a girl because of the ceres (I think) not being coloured??? Any chance on a rough age?? Also would SHE be Cinnamon?? My plan is to see how it goes with Foofie and then hopefully one day (far away) become breeder... maybe Foofie could be a Hen in a few years Thanks Ian- Hi All
Hello all, I have just purchased my childrens first pet after our praying mantis passed. only live one season im guessing its a Cinnamon ... hoping someone could help me identify what family of budgie (colour) and sex it is.... It according to the pet store it seems to still be a baby but i could be wrong... still trying to learn about it all. well enough talk .... introducing FOOFIE He/she seems to be settling in well as the freaking out stopped within about 5 minutes of getting home. We have Foofie in the family/kids/kitchen area where there is always traffic. The kids are under strict orders not to scream and run around the cage as it will make the bird go crazy... seems to be working so far. Foofie has been chirping all day apparently and doesnt seem to be worried about me putting my hand in the cage and giving he/her a gentle stroke... Id like to have Foofie tamed eventually so will get started on some research.. Any advice or opinions welcome. you all seem like a straight up bunch.. look forward to getting to know you all.
