Few Questions
So I went through all my photo's, and figured out I got these two in particular early Oct last year, says the date stamp! So I put them in to breed. I bought a breeding cabinet for them and have put them in there with lots of food and water, greens and some calcium in their water. They aren't breeding, and i'm not sure why. I saw them on a few occasions having sex in the main cage. But There are a few things i've noticed about their health and i'm now starting to think to split them up. The male's beak is turning a dark green colour, darkest at his cere and lessening in intensity further down. The top of the females head, on one side is pinkish in colour. The feathers appear pinkish, i thought it was just the light but its not. Its not a staining pink, it sort of looks like a pink colour that you could expect to see if the light hit at a certain angle, kind of like just a pink sheen, but its there all the time. Theres no evidence the two have been fighting, from what I can see the female doesn't have any wounds on her head, neither of them do. She was hogging the food a bit tonight, which is usual, she keeps the seed treat for herself and makes the male go eat seed out of the bowl. But before I fed them she was sitting in the box (she seems to do this every time i come in the room, must be safe haven from me!) and he was sitting on the perch outside it and they were nibbling each others beaks and grooming each other. But its been about 3 weeks now, and nothing, so i think i'm going to seperate them. Question I have though is there any special way you seperate them? I'm thinking about taking the male out, and leaving the female in there another week just incase i've jumped the gun and she has an egg or something like that. Does that sound okay? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Weird Behaviour From New Budgie
My new budgie Ember is in quarantine at the moment... but he/she has taken to kicking all her seed out of her container!!! Ive had to fill it up twice in the last few days. She kicked it all out, so I filled it up again, went back in to check on her a few hours later, all out again! I mean, she litterally empties the container. Is this normal behaviour for a new budgie?

Bad Pet Shop...
Yeah Budgies looked good enough though.. bit over crowded but none looked sick or injured atleast!

Bad Pet Shop...
I just felt sorry for them  The cages were so crowded they barely had enough room to sit on the perches. Well atleast i feel a little better knowing it may just be a natural thing

Bad Pet Shop...
I got my new recent friend Ember from a pet shop in Werribee.. I won't name it. Yes I know pet shop birds arent the best quality, but my theory is, someone is going to buy them, and a budgie stands a better chance with me than it does as an impulse buy for someone who knows nothing about budgies. I'd put in the hard yards helping and vet visits etc if they were nessesary, and im guessing alot of pet owners out there wouldn't.. but anyway. This pet shop, while the budgies looked fairly okay, albeit some a bit young but they were in a seperate cage with no price on it so i'm hoping they werent for sale yet.. .... The finches. I was just looking at the other birds while the lady was fetching my budgie... And quite a few of the finches have had the feathers plucked from the back of their necks by other other finches it seems. I saw 2 that were really bad, i let the lady know and pointed them out to her and she just ummed and arred that they did that kind of thing in this kind of season and they wouldn't obviously sell them like that.... but didnt make any attempt to remove those finches from the cages  Just wanting to know if what i was told is right, that its normal behaviour or atleast common behaviour for finches to do that.. or if it warrants a bit more attention, and if it does warrant a bit more attention, is there anything I can do?

Fingers Crossed Theres One Of Each....
The lady at the shop said Un-named (now named Ember) was a female I know you can't trust them they're just trying to make a sale but i didn't tell her i wanted a female she just said that bird was a female! Oh well I love them both anyway.. Ember can be a boys name can't it? Well I only got Ember today.. And I got Dunkin about 2 months ago.. But by the looks of them they seem to be similar ages because the amount of lines they have going down their foreheads seems about the same

Fingers Crossed Theres One Of Each....
I'm hoping theres one of each sex here... i'm useless at sexing baby budgies lol Sorry about the crappy pictures, i'm stuck with my phone camera until my girlfriend gets home! So far un-named. Dunkin (the pied at the back not the spangle) Also, can someone please let me know what they think Un-named is... not sure what they are. Its mostly green and yellow, but on her underside of her tail she's got a couple of deep blue feathers.

Breeding Ages
Thanks for the advice :budgiedance: Will definitely hold off on the breeding then.. they can just .. err.. enjoy eachothers company for a couple more months without the "commitment" :budgiedance:

Breeding Ages
okay :budgiedance: So if I wait til around December/jan i should be right? I have 3 birds in my indoor avery at the moment, so I've decided to get a friend for my newest bird Dunkin while the other two are off breeding. I might go pick one out today, quarantine it for a month, let everyone settle down until December/jan and then breed the other two. Thanks everyone :budgiedance: Can always rely on you guys on this forum for sound advice

Breeding Ages
Also, even if they're too young, just out of curiosity with regards to their genetics, what type of babies would they produce. Female is a light blue cinnamon... and the male is cobalt spangle

Breeding Ages
Just wondering, at what age can you breed budgies? I caught them err.. having at it today and i've been thinking about breeding them but still think its too early. The youngest of the pair I got early december, but not really sure how old she was when I got her.

New Budgie.. Moving To Main Cage?
So Duncans quarantine is over, all seems well with all birds so i've moved him to the main cage. The other two seem to be picking on him a bit, not obsessively but just a little like sneaking up on him and getting his long feathers and i found them all on the side of the cage one either side of him and one of the birds was having a go at him a bit. Is this normal and will he be okay? Will they all get used to eachother in a couple of days for example?

Whats Your Budgies Thing?
lol thats so cool that they let you take your bird to work! and that he talks to people!

New Budgie.. Moving To Main Cage?
i would, the cage would hold up to 6 budgies comfortably i'd have to wait 2 weeks though, put dunkin in the main cage, get a young female (providing it really turns out to be female) and then quaratine it etc. would be nearly 2 months before it got into the main cage. is that too long? main reason why i'm thinking about this is i'd like to breed the two that are in there in a couple of months time, and they seem to really like eachother so i wanna use that as an advantage

New Budgie.. Moving To Main Cage?
My new budgie is still in quarantine at the other end of the house, he's got about 2 weeks to go. I'm starting to have second thoughts about moving him though. I think the two birds I have left in my main cage... well are in love. When they were at the vet the other day, she said that they looked like they were in love if I go and add my new budgie to the mix in a few weeks time.. will that upset them? Or is it okay to put the other budgie in and the other two will still have the same relationship. Also, the number of each sex, there will be 2 males 1 female, is this an okay mix?

Whats Your Budgies Thing?
Lately i've spent ALOT of time just.. observing my budgies. Cheeky little smarty pants they are. One of them is absolutely obsessed with the top of the cage, hanging upside down, and spends the majority of her time trying to un-hook the swings and toys from the top of the cage. She's getting quite good at it too, hasnt got one off yet, but she's been close. I just hope she or the other budgies arent sitting on the toy when she unhooks it, she'd be quite unpopular then Does your budgie do anything weird and unique or just so cute/cheeky?

Very Sick Bird! Help!
I did get the poo smear done and it came back clear. Its an indoor avery thing so no dirt floor i've scrubbed the tray with bleach and all the bars and anything i could find I scrubbed. I've put newspaper on the bottom just incase theres anything there that they can still get to (theres bars at the bottom which were scrubbed that block them getting to the tray but did it anyway) Just a waiting game now to make sure nothing develops.

Very Sick Bird! Help!
Just got back from taking my other birds to the avian vet. She did a poo smear, weighed them looked at them etc, and they have no signs of sickness. The parasite didnt turn up in their poo. This isn't to say they will remain full of health, it may take time for it to build up in their systems. She said to monitor them, make sure they dont start sneezing, as the other bird had been sneezing as well. I did as the vet said last night and cleaned the whole cage with diluted bleach (remembered to thouroughly wash the bleach off) and soaked the perches in warm water (didnt want bleach to be left in the wood grains for the bird to possibly digest) She also told me she thinks my two remaining birds are in love

Very Sick Bird! Help!
I think it started with C? lol i'll see if i can research it Alright I did it the easy way, looked up the anti-biotic they gave us and saw what it was used to treat. They gave us Tribrissen, and apparently one of the things its used to treat is Coccidia, and that sounds familiar, so i'm assuming its that for now. Coccidia is a parasite of the intestines, which explains her problem of constipation and unable to do a poo and why its green etc.
