Mental Screeching Budgie ...help
I am hoping you can help me. I have 3 budgies. The first 2 I got at the age of 7 months. They are now 9 months. In the 7 months I have had them, they will not tolerate me coming close to the cage. They jump to the furthest corner and cling onto the bars with their hearts pounding in fear. I constantly speak to them every day, try to play with them. I'm home with them all day. Feed them millet (which after an hour of patiently holding it near the cage each day, I have to just leave it inside). They hate me and wont come near me. I have a green female budgie and a white male pied. I sent you pictures of them a while back trying to determine what sex they were. The green female budgie is normal. The pied is absolutely MENTAL! Its like he's revved on PCP or speed. It jumps from perch to perch, and fast too, he's acrobatic, follows the green one all over the cage, harrasses it night and day, hangs and swings from the toys, literally stretches from one perch to another, plays and plays and play, swings upside down from the preening toy, extremely active while the green one just watches him. I was got another blue male budgie, a year old. He is such a gentleman. He is quite, occassionally sings and plays, doesnt have much to do with the other 2 younger ones. The green and ********* white have been together since birth (brother and sister). The female seems annoyed with the pied following her, pecking at her, and they often fight. The new blue one just watches quietly. Has nothing to do with them. My Problem: The white one screeches, not trilling or singing, or nice bird whistles. He SCREECHES... insane, loud, piercing, elongated screeching!!! Its as if someone was counting to 10 really fast, but instead of saying the numbers they are screeching. A fast series of SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH! He literally pecks at the green bird, plays musical perches by quickly jumping from one perch to the other, jumps to the cage bars, climbs up, jumps back to the green bird, pecks at her, hangs and swings upside down from the toy, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, back to the green bird, pecks at her, jumps to the food bowl, eats a little, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, plays with the mirror toy, climbs up the bars, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH, SCREECH. As soon as someone comes in the room it give this wretched ear pearcing screeching, when the tv goes on, screeching. They all have their own food bowl. When I feed them, they all go to a bowl and eat, then he leaves his bowl and bites at the others tails so he can get into their bowl. The others mostly move out of the way and he jumps to their bowl and eats. Then when they go to a different bowl, he follows them, both the blue male and female and bites their tails for them to move again. At night, the lights are off and all three are sleeping. They are all puffy and sitting in a row on the perch eyes closed. But not the white one.. the white one is always 'vibrating' and shaking, singing and chirping, even in his sleep with his eyes closed. It's like he is hyperactive, a bomb ready to explode. The other two are not like that. I thought of moving him into his own cage, maybe that would quiet him down. I am sure this bird is on PCP or something. He is absolutely mental and noisy. Is this perhaps a result of inbreeding? I dont know what to do with this bird. I started a new job at home, I cant use the phone because as soon as he hears activity he screeches. We can no longer sleep in on weekend (any) mornings, he screeches and screeches. We cant watch tv. SCREEEEEEEEECH!! He plays constantly with the toys, jumps and climbs all over, screeching all the while. When any door opens he screeches. When he screeches he puts his head down and give a series of 10 to 15 consecutive ear pearcing screeches. He does this constantly, from dawn to mignight. When I absolutely cant take it, I cover the birds. Its not fair to the others two, but regardless, it can be pitch black, and he still screeches. I have been tempted to kill it or let it loose outside. I am at my wits ends. But then I thought I would write to you. Perhaps there is a fix for this. I know that he is happy and healthy and active, but his noise is too much. What can I do with this screeching devil? I really would love to keep the birds but I am at the last straw with this white one. Do you have any advice for me at all?

Having Trouble With Sex Of White Bird
Hello. You helped me earlier determining the sex of my green bird (hen) and I know the blue bird is definately a male. I dont have a clue what the white bird is. The white and green bird were born around Nov of 2008. I just bought the blue bird yesterday. I am also confused with the age of the green and white birds as their eyes are all black. Everything I have read says up to 4 months there eyes will be all black but I know they are older. How about a approximate age on the blue bird? Thank you.

Age Of Budgies
Thank you for your reply. I do wish I spoke to you before buying my new bird. I only have one large cage but now that you mention it quarantining the new bird makes a ton of sense. I hope I do not have any regrets. My family members would like to have some budgies also, so I was very excited when the recessive started displaying mating behavior. When nothing happened, I figured it must be female because I cannot determine it's sex. I decided to get a definate male for the green hen. Below are some pictures. Today my green and white originals are singing and playing happily, The new blue one is quiet and off on his own, but seems to become very attentive when I come close to the cage and talk. Whe I put my hand in the cage my 2 young ones fly frantically away bu the blue sits quietly. He let me put my finger up to his chest but then nipped at it. I guess it's to early to try to finger tame him. I so desparately want to finger tame them but the two young ones go ballistic when I go near them. I know that the green one is a hen. From the picture can you determine the sex of the white one and place on approximate age on them? I appreciate all of your advise and help. Still learning! Thank you.

Age Of Budgies
Two budgies were given to me in February 2009. At that time they were 2 - 3 months old . It is now June of 2009. Assuming they were born in Nov. of 2008 I expect them to be roughly 7 months old. But their eyes are still pure black with no ring. Yet when I go to any budgie site it says that if the eyes are pure black, without an iris ring, they are up to 4 months old. I know they are older. Also, I want to try to breed them. It is unclear whether my recessive pied is male or female, but the other is definately a hen. I brought home a new one, a nice blue bird with a very blue cere and a white iris ring, just in case the recessive is also a hen. He has been in the cage with the other 2 for 24 hrs and hardly moves (only to climb to the top of the cage looking for a way out), hardly makes a noise, and has not eaten yet. My two are nice and slim and he is bulky and big. The man at the shop referred to him as a sexually active male that wasnt too old. He just sits and shakes/fluffs up his feathers periodically while they other two make their best efforts to avoid him while continuing to play and eat. Do you forsee any potential problems?

Sane Or Insane Male (or Female)?
Where do you see the opaline in the rec. pied? Asking because I want to see it too Recently advised by a budgerigar judge to look at the striations on the face that indicate opaline in recessive pied Would a female be so active and noisy. If the white one was human, it would be on Ritalin. It is 100% hyperactive and doesnt leave the green one alone. The green one is a quiet little angel. As soon as the cover comes off of their cage in the morning, the white one heads straight for the green and starts harassing. Now this morning green is not fighting with white, but is tolerating him around and 'locking beaks. White is harassing green, flying to other perch, flying back to harrass green, flying back to other perch, as if jumping from one bed to another....and this goes on all day until the cover goes back on.What is wrong with him. Does this perhaps mean he is male and courting? Also, I believe they were born in November of 2008. I am not really sure how old they are.

Sane Or Insane Male (or Female)?
Yes, please let me know how. As soon as I get anywhere close to them the fly to the furthest corner of the cage scared to death. Although I slowly preset my finger in the cage several times a day, every day for the past 4 months they are still scared. Any help would be welcome.

Sane Or Insane Male (or Female)?
I am inserting a few pictures. It is hard to get them to stay still. I notice the camera enhances the blue and makes the ceres look like they have a blue tinge when they dont.

Sane Or Insane Male (or Female)?
I have two budgies. One is the standard yellow head with green body and black markings on feathers. The other is a white with a very faded light yellow/green and grey on the body/feathers, and black eyes. There is aboslutely no white ring around the eyes. It mostly looks white and grey. I will refer to them as green and white. Green is very quiet and boring, sits on the perch a lot, doesn't move too much, rarely sings. Will follow white, but not too much activity. usually stays in the same spot all day White sings and play. White does acrobatics on the toys, plays with any toy I bring it. Squeezes through the ring toys, squawks loudly, boldly climbs up and down on the cage bars, flys back and forth and plays, chirps, squawks and squawks all day while green just sits and watches. White never sits still. Occassionally white will take little cautious steps towards green and suddenly try to bite it. Green watches with beak open and lashes out if white gets to close. White will fly down to a lower perch then come back and do it again. Over and over again. He harrasses poor green to no end. The ocassionally they lock beaks (feeding I guess) then green will lash out at white as if to say get lost. If I put food in the cage, they both sit and look at it, but white is interested and will eventually get closer and closer until it can eat. Once eating, green will participate. If I give them fruit, they huddle as far away from it as they can, as if it is poison. I have had these birds since January 09. They must be about 6 - 8 months old. I cant tell if they're male or female. Both ceres look the same, a greyish very very slight pink. But greens cere is more flat and white in color while white's is more protruding and rounded around the nostrils, very pink with a bluish tinge. Is white insane. Is it possible he is courting green who is a male and wants nothing to do with him? But is it maybe a possible white is a female? Every day since I had them I sit and talk to them throughout the cage. If I put my finger up to the cage they run and huddle to the furthest side of the cage, scared and breathing hard as if a cat is after them. If I put my hand in the cage all *** breaks loose and they fly frantically trying to get away. I have been trying to finger tame them for 4 months now but no luck. I cant get near them at all. Other than that, white is happy and noisy in the cage. If I let them loose they fly frantically trying to get as far away from me as possible. Even if I sit still for an hour. I have thought about letting them loose, picking them up with a towel and just talking to them repeatedly. Will this help?
