  1. Just in case. She was diagnosed with respiratory infection but antibiotics don't seem to be fixing her.
  2. Not affordable unfortunately. If I had the money I'd spend it on her.
  3. Well, this is the 30th day of Triple C treatment. She is still sick. I notice She has a nasty looking brown stain on the feathers above her Cere. I've ordered some Ronivet as a sort of last resort. If She had Canker though it probably should have killed her already. She still has difficulty swallowing food and water. It doesn't stop her though.
  4. It seems she may be responding the the Triple C. It's the 10th day of treatment today. She is quiet this morning but I knew she would be after yesterday's insanity. She chirped and moved around almost playfully for about 3 hours yesterday. She even replied to my whistles for the first time. Highly unusual behaviour for her. She must have worn herself out. Hopefully the Triple C can clean out all of the bugs she has and she's not too far gone for her body to be able to repair itself. I'll keep up the treatment for at least another 10 days.
  5. I wonder if she has a sore throat.
  6. The different attitudes between the two vets may simply be that one is male and the other is female. When possible try to deal with females. Generally better human beings.
  7. Not good. It cost $266 and they tried antibiotics. It didn't work and I can't afford to keep going back for more tests until they find out what's wrong. I'm trying Triple C on her now.
  8. Hi Gina. Yes, she is still alive but only just. I'm on a pension and going back and forth to the vet for more tests isn't possible. Watching her each day I sometimes wonder which one of us is in more pain.
  9. "selamectin" That's the stuff that's in Revolution for cats.
  10. I've rung the Vet twice now but I can only get a nurse to talk to me. They automatically check all birds for Mega and it isn't showing. They have her on a broad spectrum antibiotic but I can't remember the name. I think it might have started with D. They said they can try Baytril?? but it has to be given twice a day for 5 days and this bird isn't tame. She just screams continuously when being held.
  11. The said the bird was full of bacteria but didn't actually say Megabacteria. What would the treatment be for that?
  12. Not going well. She's not responding to the antibiotics. The vet said she didn't have a mite or worm problem. Anyone got any ideas?
  13. The vet just rang. No need for Psittacosis test but her blood is too thick. She's dehydrated. She told me to put a bucket of water near her cage to help humidify the space a little as I'm keeping her warm and it dries the air. I have to give a progress report in 2 days and we'll decide then whether it needs to go further.
  14. The vet gave me a list of things to avoid today. Avocado Onion Rhubarb Garlic These can all be toxic.
  15. I took her to the vet and it turns out she's quite sick. I thought so. She's had a blood test and I'll get the results later. She has been injected with Antibiotics as she's full of Bacteria. I may have to go back for her to be injected again. The results will tell whether she needs to be tested for Psittacosis aswell. Interestingly she doesn't seem to have a worm problem. $266 so far and it's not finished yet. At those prices she'd better live or I'll kill her.
  16. I have an appointment with another Avian vet on Monday. I hope the bird keeps on soldiering on until then. I was impressed with the way they handled my enquiry and I will watch my mouth.
  17. "on a side note, you say you wouldn't WANT them to supply you with an unapproved drug" I said I wouldn't EXPECT them too. It's different. Anyway I'll make an appointment with another vet on Monday and I'll be extra carefull not to have an opinion that may be contrary. After all, what matters is that the bird is seen to.
  18. "The only times a vet is obligated by law to treat an animal is when the animal's life is in immediate danger unless they do something, or the animal is in severe pain/suffering. That treatment may be to give first aid, medicine, surgery or euthanasia depending on the circumstances." Exactly. I wouldn't expect him to supply me with an unapproved drug. The receptionist only said to me that they don't use Ivermectin and the treatment they gave would have to be administered by the vet. I was not aware that the treatment can't be supplied to me. Breeders seem to be able to get what they need. The fact that I somehow offended the receptionist should be between her and me. I may well have been out of line and would apologise if given the chance, if it would mean the bird would be treated. I'm only upset about the fact the the bird's health isn't being treated as the most important thing. In my opinion living things should, when possible, always be more important than money. As far as I'm concerned, refusing to give the bird the attention it needs because I offended is unacceptable. Anyhow, I'm upset with that attitude and that's not going to change anytime soon. I will email the vet and explain my ethical point of view to him so that he can then ignore it. I'll be sure to quote the meaning of ethics from the dictionary for him.
  19. I am livid at the moment and the thought of such unethical behaviour is hard to take. What about the poor innocent bird? I have found a female Avian vet about 45 mins from here and will make an appointment on Monday. I feel good about finding a female vet. My G.P. is a woman too. I find generally they are more caring so I'm looking forward to meeting her.
  20. One of the vets mentioned in a section here has refused to see my budgie because of something I said to the receptionist regarding Ivermectin. I think it was because the receptionist said that the vet must apply any treatments for the bird. I know that's not true from what I've learned here and said something along the lines of "Oh...more money for the vet". Due to personal experiences with Doctors and Surgeons putting the money before the patient I am a bit sensitive. If the vet or receptionist has a problem with me they should take it up with me and not put the bird's health at risk. I find this very unprofessional. Can someone tell me who keeps an eye on vet's dealings? Is there a governing body? Anyhow I rang the RSPCA and they put me on the the Veterinary Surgeons Board. They told me nothing can be done. It's a business and they have the right not to see an animal if they don't like the owner. I feel that this is wrong. They should not be allowed to put a personal problem ahead of the well being of an innocent animal. If anyone wants to know the name of this amateurish vet just P.M. me and I will tell you.
  21. Can someone have a look at the cere and tell me whether it's a male or a female? I didn't realise that it isn't blue on Lutino males.

The local Avian vet won't sell me Ivermectin for scaly face. I have to take the bird to him and he'll administer it. Seems like he wants the extra money. The search continues.

I have found a place locally that sells Ivermec pour on for Cattle. Going by the dosage recommended for cattle a 30g to 35g budgie would require a half a drop. The smallest amount they sell is 250ml. Does the stuff have an expiry date? That's way too much for me. Maybe someone would want to buy some of it off me.
  24. She's not tame so It's been hard to get very close. I managed to get closer today and I suspect she has some scaly face on one side of her beak. Would that explain her symptoms and how do I get Ivermectin apart from online? Is it available from petstores or do I have to get it from an Avian vet?
  25. She's doing something different today. For the first time she's trying to sleep on one leg. She's got her head turned (first time) but it's not under her wing.
