It's A Mystery...
Hi Sean, as your in America Ivermectin may be called by something different. It has to be avian strength. 1 drop behind head every 3 months is the recomended dose here.It will treat most other worms as well. Others might verify this but I think you can help smother the mites by vaseline smeared over the feet and beak which may help in the meantime.

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
Hi Ratsy, your bub's are looking terrific. All growing well, no problems with any of them, that's great, I can't tell about colours at this stage I'll leave that to the expert's. If Skye is split opaline, it's only show's sometimes when they have chicks, so we can find out what our birds really are, it's hard to get my head around genetics but we'll work it out down the track.

Injured Young Bird
Sound's fairly promising, if she's eating, drinking and pooping as normal, no infection around wound she might just be a bit strange in a new cage etc without other birds, (was she in aviary)? or maybe a bit shocked if you don't know what caused it. I'd say play it by ear if she's not in the fluffed up I'm sick pose. Give her a couple of days rest and see how she is then, wound would probably be healed over by then also. :hmm:

My Budgie's Pregnant
Hi leish, How many birds do you have breeding? You said my "bird's pregnant", then said you have a nine mth as well "pregnant". Is it the same hen or do you have two.? As we said , have they laid any eggs yet or do you have them paired up or just all in together with breeding box's in cage or Aviary. If you give us a bit more idea it would be easier for everyone to advise you.

Rats!
So Sorry about your Aussie. Taboo. I suppose it upset Nick badly as well to find your little mate like that. I haven't had any rats to deal with mice are bad enough. Hope you don't have any more "visit's" or hope he finds a trap first.

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
Hi AGAIN Ratsy, I just found your other post about Skye. I hope he's looking better now. Try to follow the advice the others gave you, we know Dad's don't always understand things from a "kid's" point of view, your instinct was Skye's not well and you probably know him better than anyone so trust your judgment and do as much as you can to get him well again. It might just be it was a bit of a shock for him to keep up with all those little open beaks, do you have some vitamins or extra nutrition you can give him to help him along? Just keep up your good work and we'll keep everything crossed he's o.k.

Culling?
Never been in the position of G.B.'s type of discussion, but boy it make's funny reading on a wet windy day, (for which we are truly thankful after the *****humidity and heat). I had to get hubby to read it himself as I couldn't read it out without laughing, strange what mental pictures you can get , I reckon the fella's probably do it deliberately to newbies half the time anyway. G.B. Not to get off the subject, culling or euthenasia. I hope I only ever have to do the former. But hope I'm up to the latter if it ever arises. I guess we won't know until it happens.

Please Explain!
Thank's Jimmy Banks & Kaz. I'm trying to satisfy myself that I would not be creating more problems. SEE BREEDING HELP : CAN ANYONE ADVISE. By breeding these birds. They are big nice looking birds (except for no 4.) even though 2 so far, missing a long tail. Reason for uncertainty is R.I.P. Way back when, I posted these birds, said her thoughts were maybe long feathered birds led to her breeding Feather Dusters. Hence my concern. Do I breed these chicks or not with small pet type birds for size increase???
-
Please Explain!
A MOP is another term for a feather duster. Another name is chrysanthemum budgie...all three are the same. So it's all in the wording!! Thank's Kaz. So do they just appear or are certain birds likely to breed them, or is it just genetics again?

Types Of Natural Tree Branches
With the hibiscus they get everything on the branch.....leaves and flowers as well. Mine dont like bottle brush either. Thank's Kaz, I have hibiscus growing but didn't think to add those for them.
-
Please Explain!
Hi All, I keep coming across references to "Mops", French moult I get, I think. Feather dusters I take it are different again. Can anyone explain what these birds are, what causes them, if known how to pick the signs if we see one or breed one etc. Pictures of some would be great.

Sick Budgie?
Just caught up with your post, sorry you have lost your little one. Better luck with the rest of your flock.

Types Of Natural Tree Branches
Hi All, few variety's to pick from there. With the Hibiscus, do you give flowers, branch's as well as leaves? Mine love gum leaves, not fussed on bottle brush. Does anyone know about BRUSH BOX (I think called q.land br. box as well). I've used a branch but don't know about flowers or foliage.

Egg Has A Crack
Hi, If it's a new egg and hasn't been incubated at all and it's cracked I would remove it. If she is in breeding mode she could lay 2 days apart or so OR it could be she's just laid a random egg if this one is a week old. If they are only in a small cage, is there room for a breeding box? Do you want them to breed? If so add a box if not don't. She may lay on floor but if she hasn't got a box she probably won't incubate them, by adding a box you will be encouraging them to breed. It's really what you decide. Keep us posted as to what you decide for any further help you need.

Can Anyone Advise?
Thanks for the info Lachlan. When I posted them before as chicks the consensus was I doubled up on long flight etc. I don't show, although the parents were both from a show breeders cull. Both Cinnamon, lt.g/ Olive. both nice looking birds. I have since read about mops etc. thought they may fall into another problem. (pictured chicks i mean). So if I decide to breed them I'll breed to smaller feather birds, also I won't breed original parents together again. Hoping this is the correct way to go. On the show bench yes . But paired correctly to say the first hen bird in the top picture and you can correct the flight issues , dont always take everyones opinion as gospel , Remember that all birds have faults , you must try not to pair two faults together .Nice birds.okay cool thank you thats good to know as i was told by a few people that long flighted birds just breed long flighted birds and your now and again good bird i just culled out a really good cock bird in belief of this i will no for next time dam it grr i thought it was like shark fins and how it breeds in to your birds so....let him go i have should of had my brain on as when i think about it my best pair one is long flighted the other lacking in his wings alot they have the most perfectly winged bubby soh man i hate having memorie lose lol lol oh well ive learnt two things before i go doing anything drastic chew on it for a few weeks and two im an idiot We live and learn eh! g.b. Have you bred those good winged chicks yet? To see they haven't passed on the long flight gene or whatever?

My Budgie's Pregnant
Hi leish, I see you've just joined, welcome to the bbc. Firstly has your bird laid eggs yet? Do you have a pair caged to breed, an aviary etc? After you answer with a bit more information, when eggs laid (date) what your set up is and a picture if you can everyone will be able to give you better advice.
