  1. Yup, I will keep a seperate line. The only reason I am having cinnamon's in is because when I first started, I just wanted to breed cinnamons. I think that is one of my biggest stuff ups, because people in my club were very generous, and gave me cinnamon birds that were VERY nice, not cull birds, proper one's they were going to use. I got the most stunning pair of cinnamon opalines, the cock pictured below. I got a grey-green cin. opaline hen, and she is by far better then some of my COCK birds in the aviary. I am trying to cull out my cinnamons for fallows and clearbodies, but I can't bear to get rid of some of the cinnamons, so I have decided to breed YF Blue as well, and cinnamons can go into that I have only recently started collecting the normals, I am happy with my collection of normals.
  2. Here is my plan for the fallows: I have two split fallow birds at the moment, both pet-type though the come from show stock. So they are really just very poor show birds. The first pairing will start in early Autumn/ late summer. Or maybe at the end of this year. Violet/Fallow Cock X Opaline Blue/Fallow Hen (my two birds I have right now) 25% Normal 25% Fallow 50% Normal/Fallow Keep the visuals from this pairing, I may need to let them go for two rounds. Pair the visual hens to my best cocks : I have a light green cock looking very very nice (this is an older picture): http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd279/S...le/RIMG0037.jpg Grey green cock on end MAYBE and grey cock definitely, I have two greys I want to put in, one from Flanagan parents: Cinnamon cock maybe into fallows, he is one of my best cocks: From these birds I will get ALL Normals/Fallow. I will probably cull the cocks, maybe keep some for later on. I will then put the hens back to their uncles (the cocks kept from original pairing) And I will get: 50% Fallows 50% Normal/Fallows From their I will just keep on with the splits and visuals, hopefully building the birds up. It will be hard work going from pet-types to show bench , but I am going to approach the challenge with a positive mind. I am really hoping to get some split fallows and visuals in from somewere else, as I am fearing I will inbreed a bit. Fallows are reasonably rare though. Cinnamon Hen to the light green cock above, keep normal hens for fallow pairings: So hopefully, I will put the normal green cock down with the cinnamon to get some normal hens, this will also get some more genes in for the original visual fallows. I will have my visual fallows, the normals hens and the normal cocks ready to breed in 2011 season. Year 1 (2011 season) Pairing 1's:Visual Fallows X Normal Hens (from cin. pairing) and other good hens = 100% Normal/ Fallow Pairing 2's: Visual Fallow Hens X Best cocks = 100% Normal/Fallow Year 2 (2012 season) Pairing 1's Cocks X Visual Hens from original pair ( nephew to auntie) = 50% Fallow 50% Normal/Fallow Pairing 2's Hens X Visual Fallows from original pair (neice to uncle) = " " From there I will try and get as many splits and visuals in, someone in the club is in there second year, so hopefully by then I can get some birds of them. What to you guys think, and do you think I will be inbreeding to much? (linebreeding or inbreeding, whatever you wish to call it) I hope I made sense by the way :fear
  3. Yup. I have 4 breeding cages, and they are normally taken up with my show birds. I plan on getting these pet-types to moult early, then I will put them in the breeding cages when my show birds moult.
  4. Yup I did them too I think I will clip her legs feathers a little, she mainly got it in her feathers Feather mites? No I meant she mainly got the Rawleighs on her feathers, I was having trouble finding her skin under it all :fear
  5. Yup I did them too :fear I think I will clip her legs feathers a little, she mainly got it in her feathers
  6. Thanks rachelm okay, We have a bit of that so I will use that. Cheers :)I put some Rawleighs (blue one) on her, and I also heated it up and added a little bit of water, and dripped it around her beak and vent. I was thinking it was a little to much diluted, so I tried some ( not reccomended ) and I can tell you now it wasn't too diluted.
  7. Hi Dean, Have you paired the birds up yet? how are the birds going?
  8. You can cut the feathers sure. But the problem is they continue growing and that is what kills the bird. If you cut the feathers, why would they grow back? Don't feathers only grow back if they are either plucked or the birds are moulting? Clipping birds vents takes a while to grow back, so I would image it would be the same with the dusters? How could they eat with feathers All on their face?
  9. Willow has developed scaley, so I took her out. Her 4 fertile eggs were put in Marble's infertile nest of three unny shaped eggs. The blue hen has yet to lay. This round looks like it will be a small one, I may try Willow in the breeding cage if I have a spare when she gets better. I am planning on getting my birds to moult early, then trying the three pairs in the cages when I am getting my show birds to moult. The pairs will be: Opaline Blue/Fallow hen X Violet/Fallow cock - Only keeping fallow chick to put into show stock Apollo ( YF Blue Opaline Spangle Cinnamon) X Willow (Spangle Grey) Marble (Rec. Pied Cinnamon Blue) X DF Spangle YF split cin.
  10. This hen was checked before breeding, as all birds were. She begun to develop very minor around her beak. The pictures do make it look worse, and I think the skin is also irritated because of mating and her beginning to line her nest (plucking feathers) , which is why I took the cock bird out also. Each bird was taken out and checked over, and I gave them my normal breeding prep for about 2-3 weeks before. At the end of the period, she was showing very small scaley on her beak, I didn't even think it was scaley, it just looked a little crusty. I thought it was okay, as I have had birds that get this and it goes away within a week , with me only putting one dose on it, sometimes none. She didn't look like she had scaley, so I just looked over it, and wrote in my notepad to keep an eye on her. I rarley get to see the birds when they nest, and even when they are out, I check them. I suppose because I naturally don't get a look at their vent I didn't notice. I only noticed it yesterday when she went in the box, she flashed me. They have only been breeding for 2 and a half weeks. Like I said, the photo's are making it look worse. This could have developed for the past week, without me knowing until yesterday. I was going to do all of my flocks when I get the treatment, I still will. Until then though, this hen needs some help.
  11. I think we have aloe vera spray, we use it for sunburn. Which one would be better? Also, anyone know if rawleighs would be okay? It is used for: * head and chest cold congestion * catarrh * croup * cuts * burns * sores * bruises * earache * headache * muscular pain * chapped hands, lips * scratches * psoriasis * eczema. Active Ingredients: Camphor, Menthol and Oil of Eucalyptus.
  12. With a mop, Can you cut its feather so they aren't so long? I would image the bird would be quite dirty?
  13. Hi guys I have recently pulled a hen from my breeding colony because she has come down with scaley face mites. She was fine at the start, but has progressed and now has quite harsh scaley on her vent. I have taken her and her partner out, and transferred her 4 fertile eggs into another nest. This would normally be fine, but I have an issue. My normal scaley treatment broke a couple weeks ago, and I had to throw it out (it was one you apply). I am expecting some new stuff soon, from a breeder at my club. He gets prescriptions from his vet, and he offered to give me some ( one you put in water). But he can't get any until the start of next month. So I am left with a hen with scaley and no medicine availible for the next week and a bit. Is there any home remedies or things I can get from the supermarket to help until I get new stuff? Couldnt get a focused picture of beak, she bites like a b****. It looks worse in the picture, of the beak. Her vent is about what it looks like in picture. She has it VERY minor on legs also.
  14. You will get: ( as you said ) 50% Normal/Clearbody cocks 50% Clearbody hens And as for percentages with colour, I am guessing you will get ( if none are split) either normal or dark greens.
  15. Awesome! Clearbodies are so cute, wait till they feather Have you got any favourites among the nests? More pictures?
  16. I think she will have a white face. I am going with hen, but it is looking more cockish by the day. I can see white quills and in the wings it is showing with a blue/grey colour, you can't see in pictures, under the skin kinda. DF YF, hmm I never thought of that. Wouldn't that mean the hen is either DF or split? (going with albino parents) The albinos have another chick under them, so we will see how that one turns out no would mean mum is masking spangle also you cant go by quill colour only feather broken through wasnt dad a spangle ? if mum masked spangle it could b df why eyes are plum also i said yf as the bird having dark quills on face does sometimes reprozent yf comming through but would think you could tell your side if was by now as skin stains dark but greenish yellow look with dark quills feathers open yellow of course but your probably right and prob grey cinnamon online just seems very white allover still for a other colour Oh, sorry, I thought you were meaning double factor yellowface (white faced bird) not double factor spangle. No, chick definetley has colour and quills, tail quills looking spangle. Face is white and black quills.

  18. I am so stupid. I should know this by now. Oh well, lesson learnt I guess. Thanks for the help guys, I guess I will never touch eggs again. Should I take the bad eggs out, and look to make sure they are dead ( I know it sounds icky, but the chick may be alive if it is only slightly brown?)
  19. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, but I guessed that already. Thanks for the suggestion though. I don't handle the eggs, it may be the hen getting of and letting them get cold. But I wouldn't think that between 3 nests? Sometimes if the hen gets of the eggs and on of the eggs move to the corner of the box, I move it back to the others. I dont roll it, I make sure my hands are clean and gently pick it up. Hmm, it may be that. I suppose I will need to stop, I just don't want the eggs to be chilled in this cold weather. We must both be doing something wrong
  20. Hi I have had about 7 eggs this round that have been fertile, and then they go a dirty splotchy brown colour. I have had 3 in one nest, and now in my other 2 pairs, both hens have 2 or so. Does this mean the eggs were fertile, and the chick inside died (DIS) ? The eggs are due to hatch about now, they only went discoloured a couple days ago. It is hard to explain, I will try and get a picture Thanks in advance SC
  21. I haven't had c chik for a while, but I am a little worried about its feet. At this age, shouldn't she be able to stand? If she is put on a flat surface, that soft carpet stuff in my music case, she can't stand properly, she just kind of lies down . Her feet are rather red and the toes aren't gripping or moving much, Is this okay? Some help please, I don't know if she is stunted or not!?
  22. Chick doing fine, and is being fed good
  23. I am thinking Grey Opaline Cinnamon Spangle Tail quills are looking spangle, opaline down, and cinnamon posisbly on wings and plum eyes. grey or blue, because head quills are white, and the wing colours are looking grey/blue. I am thinking it may be from foster pair?? Changed her name to Harmony, sounds better and she loved my instrument so much. She is very wriggly now! Picts: In these two, you can see she is "blowing" in one, because her quills are standing up straight as it goes into her back skull.
  24. I am breeding mainly clearbodies, with YF Blues as a smaller line. So both series for me . Aweomse, just make sure the clearbody doesnt throw DIS's. I have a chick in another nest, so I bet they will all start arriving together Will walk out tommorrow and the whole nest in both nest's would have hatched  (or not,,, I wish )
