  1. okay, great- thanks for the tips. I'll try it tonight...Lets see how Jokey likes the brocs
  2. How you all doing, I was reading a few post and couldn’t find anything on some questions I have on feeding veggies- 1. Do you all boil your veggies first? Like for instance, I am thinking of feeding Jokey some broccoli and was wondering if I should boil them a little first? Or should I soak them in water for a little time first? Please keep in mind that these are veggies from the super marker and not fresh. I am guessing the once from the super marker have some chemicals sprayed on them to keep bugs away right? 2. Corn- Do you boil them first or just raw? 3. Apples- do you cut them up in small little pieces? What would you think is the best way? I was concerned about all those preservatives and stuff the spray on the fruits and veggies. Thanks
  3. Yea- I guess almost anything is possible with some dedication. I will have to give it a try. I was reading some other birds being potty trained and I guess I have to keep a eye out when Jokey goes. I don't care if he poops on me or around the house. I just thought it would be nice if he did have his loo... On command I think I wouldn't try. I wouldn't want him to get sick or anything. Chrysocome - That is cool - I want to teach Jokey how to do a few things- fetch and put a ball or paperball into a cup would be awesome. That might be easier than teaching him not to poop on people Maybe I'll tell people that is one of his tricks LOL "Look at Jokeys trick, he will poop on you!"
  4. Well, I wasn't thinking on command. I was thinking more like a place. So they would go to a place or something like on top of a newspaper. Is that possible? Example: They are flying around the room and want to go. They go to the newspaper or back to their cage, and then go back to what they were doing. I wouldn't want to forget to tell him to go poop and what happens when your not home?
  5. Hello all, I was wondering if anybody has their Budgie potty trained? I have read that some birds can be potty trained so was wondering if these little guys can be? I think it is pretty hard to tell when these guys are gona go so how hard is to train them? Thanks :hap:

Hello- I was just wondering now that my little guy is flying around I was wondering if anybody has problems with the little guys landing on TV's. I have a 50" flatscreen and it puts out some heat was wondering if the little guy might like that and lands on it or slam into it when it is off? I would think when the TV is on, the picture will probably keep him away? Also if he poops on the screen will the TV be okay, Will it stain?
  7. Just to let you guys know. I took Jokey to the Vet to make sure he was okay. The Vet said that the opening and closing of the month could of been from him just being tired. He looks fine and there is no sign of him having a cold or fever. Body heat is normal. The Vet did take a poop test and he has some (I don't know what it is called) mold in his body??? The dock said he needs little more vitamins in his diet. The vet gave us some white powder to sprinkle on his seeds and some drops to put in his water. Also gave us some calcium chips to put in his food. So we went to the vet for something else and found out about something different. I am glad we found out before it got serious.
  8. Yes, KAZ is correct, he is 4 weeks old. My place is always 76-78F degrees now. That should be good right? He is in his new cage since last night. I covered it with a black cotton cloth. I think he loves his new place. He didn't do much at first but then he started to go test things out. I think he likes the swing the best. When I put the cover on last night he was on it. This morning he was still there. We'll see when we get home today. KAZ - So you think 3 months with the light on should be okay. "On" during the day, "Off" during the night or the other way around? If my Apt is at 76-78F degrees do you think the light is needed? Just wondering.... Thanks
  9. okay, great... Thanks. My Apt is always around 71 to 78 depending on the month. Unless i kick in the AC but I guess this year i wont be.
  10. That is amazing :what:
  11. Up to what age do I keep a lamp on him? Do you use a light cloth like a old Tshirt or do you use a heavier towel type cloth? Wow, I have tons of questions. Reading other post and trying to find all the answers is a job in itself. I’m suppose to be working right now but… hihihihi
  12. I saw this in a post
  13. Hate to butt in this post but I think my little one can be sick. He is very active and eats normal. But he dose have those symptoms (shivering [not much you can't really tell unless you stare] and open and closing of the mouth). Also, when he stands on my shoulder next to may face he seems a little hot. I thought that was normal for his body heat. Also, he sneezed a few times lately. You think he has a cold? You think, just incase, I should take him to the vet?
  14. You know- My bird dose the same thing. I thought he was eating but I was taking a close look last night and I didn't see any food. What is he doing?

Sweet- Jokey will be getting his cage this week. I want to pick a good one out for him. Are there any pictures or post on this forum of cages and set ups people have? Again- Thank you all for your help. I know Jokey appreciates it just as much.

He is not in a cage now. He is in a clear plastic case and thats why I was wondering about when was the good time to put him in a regular cage. I'll take a look at the post on cages too. Thanks

Thanks for all the great comments and the great advice. It was all that help so also give yourself a pat on the back. I really appreciate it and very happy I found this site. THANK YOU! You all are great. Also, quick question - At how many months can this little guy go into a regular cage?Ah, before I forget- I saw a coment about mirrors in a birds cage. I am not sure if they are good or bad. They sell them at the pet store and a japanese post said that they are good when you have one bird. Is that true?
  19. All you did is change the water and add vitamines? Glad to hear she is okay by the way.

Thanks guys- Also Thanks KAZ I am glad to hear that is sorta normal to eat your own poop At least for birds right I get to see him a few minutes everyday. In the morning for a few minutes and then at night before I go to bed for a few minutes. I'm always talking to him and when I carry him and he falls sleep. He starts to chirp and sorta mumble things in his sleep. It is so funny.... Ah, i just remembered I know this isn't the place but when should you start to give him water. Yesterday I was sitting there talking to him and had a glass of water. He started to lick the glass so I got him a little cup and dipped my finger in the water and gave him a few drops. Looks like he really liked it. Will it be okay now to put a little bowl of water in his box? He is 1 month now..... :hap: Today is his 1 month birthday :hap:

Morning... Sorry I have been away for meetings and busy with lots of work. I have not had time to load the pics yet. I will have to take more pics cause the little guy is growing fast. It is very surprising- Everyday is different. Again, sorry for the delay but I will try to get them up this weekend. I think he is doing good. My girlfriend watches him everyday now. I am to busy with work so I have no time. There is one thing. She was reading a Japanese site and they said that if the birds beak is black at the tip, it means he is sick. Is that true? Also, she said that sometimes he eats his droppings. They also said that is a sign of a sick bird. Your thoughts please. Thanks!

Good day, how is every body doing? Here is an update of my adventure in Japan and baby budgie…. Well my girlfriend went to another pet shop; she took our little guy with her to show them how young he is and to see if there was anything wrong. Well let me tell you, I guess they have different believes here because this pet shop also had some birds about the same age and they said that’s what they feed them. There is nothing wrong with what the other pet shop told us. I can’t believe it but that’s all they said. She purchased some powder food anyways to give to him. They said to mix it with the seed food because the powder stuff will not be fulfilling to him. They said to feed him 3 times a day and that that was sufficient. I will have to take pictures tonight of all the stuff we have and to show you guys how the little guy is looking. He is doing fine by the way. Last night a few hours after he ate I took him out of his box and was holding him on my chest. I seems like he likes the way I hold him. I put my hand in the box and he jumps on. My girlfriend did the same and he doesn’t, he just looks at her. She was a little mad and jealous, Hehehe…. I will take pics of everything and post them later tonight or tomorrow. See what you all think.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice. I took off work a little early and got home at 5. Let me tell you he was very hungry. The only thing we have in the house was the mini seeds I was talking about so I warmed it up like the pet shop suggested and spoon feed him. He was going crazy getting food every place. Once he ate about half he calmed down a lot. He seems okay. He cries or chirps a lot like if he was hungry. I started to talk to him and was holding him to my chest in my cupped hands. He fell sleep. I had to go out so I put him back in his box covering it w a towel. We went to a different pet shop but it was closed. We feed him the small seeds again and it seems that he likes them. Tomorrow my girlfriend will be going to a different pet shop to get different food for him. Do you think the seeds will be okay since he is eating them? Also he cries a lot or chirps a lot when we hold him, is that normal? Should we not hold him and leave him in his cage?
