  1. Hi Rachelrose, Your male looks interesting I think he is a double factor spangle cobalt very heavily suffused, there may also be other mutations that aren't visible and he may be carrying multiple mutations as well. Your hen I think is an Albino but it is hard to tell from the photos but she seems to have the pink feet and a yellowish beak. The other hen is an opaline spangle either cobalt, violet or sky violet photos never show the colour properly. If the male does happen to be a double factor spangle all of his babies will be spangles but if he also happens to carry the ino gene half of the young will be albino spangles but they will just look like albinos. The hen may also be masking other mutations so there are lots of possibilities when parentage is unknown. Hope this helps cheers Jenny
  2. Hi Robyn, Looks to me like he has been chewing his feathers as the shafts still look like they are still in place but just split like he has chewed them up. what causes these sort of problems is hard to work out it is usually stress related but the reason only the bird knows lol maybe a bit hen pecked. Cheers Jenny
  3. Hi Jen144 These are the predictions from the genetic calculater basically it is the same as putting a clearbody over an ino, genetically they are very close and the clearbody has dominance over the ino. 1.0 pallid(Tex.clearbody) x 0.1 ino cinnamon % from all 1.0 100.0% 1.0 green pallid(Tex.clearbody)Ino /cinnamon % from all 0.1 100.0% 0.1 green pallid(Tex.clearbody)
  4. Hi Jennahill try to catch up your other budgie to feel what it is like in your hands, then catch the blue fellow and see if he feels any different. If he feels puffy or spongy like he may have ruptured an airsack somehow and may need to see a vet. It is hard to see if there is a problem from the photos. Cheers Jenny
  5. It is called cardiac racing syndrome or stress seizures and is reasonably common in budgies but I have had it happen in a few cockatiels, a princess parrot and I had a hooded parrot die in my hands while I was getting a dna sample from it I think it went into shock after the seizure. Probably not any research done into whether or not it is hereditary but I haven't had any connections personally. I would probably only handle them when absolutely necessary though. Cheers Jenny
  6. Entry No 14 Wish she hadn't blinked Entry No 15 Sorry about my earlier goof up it was late lol.
  7. ENTRY NO. 5 ENTRY NO. 6
  8. Hi Brenbird looks to me like a male either recessive or combo pied grey or mauve, hard to see the colour properly. Also to me it looks like an adult bird. Cheers Jenny
  9. Hi guys been a while but I am a bit closer to knowing what this hen is, she is mated to a yellow face grey/ ino male and judging by her young to date I would lean toward her being a opaline greywing spangle fallow green. To date they have produced green spangles, green opaline spangles, normal green, opaline green male, lutino hen and they have young in the box still hatching two of which are ino. If either of the ino babies turn out to be males then I may have to reconsider what she is. As the male is a grey factor bird surprisingly none of the young are grey so the colour expectations are a bit out of whack lol. Turns out this hen was reared by her own parents and not a fostered bub. This is a photo of her parents who are share the same hen as their mum so it is possible they both were split for fallow. The grandmum
  10. Hi GB I mean that the young can't be df pieds as they only have one pied parent but they look like df pieds as they have only few markings. Yes I may have some recessive pied background in some birds so it is possible some will be carrying the gene. Cheers Jenny
  11. So cute maybe he thought your thumb was that lovely large headed hen he has been dreaming about lol
  12. Hi Maddy your hen can be fertile for a couple of weeks if the cock has mated with her. Have you got any others you can foster them under if they prove to be fertile? Cheers Jenny
  13. You must be doing plenty right Splat, you must have a good eye. Cheers Jenny
  14. Thanks Splat GB I posted a couple of photos of pieds that both had a non pied parent so maybe there is some sort of modifier happening or recessive in the mix.
  15. Great read GB, enjoying the pics you have some lovely birds. Love the lacewings:wub:
  16. Coming along nicely, you must be getting exited. Cheers Jenny
  17. Yeah thanks GB, can't wait to see what I get from that pair. As for the Dom pieds some of my pieds you would swear were double factor and prove not to be so I reserve my judgement until they have a couple of broods. Cheers Jenny
  18. Thanks guys Georgie the hawk has been causing havoc for months I wish it would go away too. Here are some of the fresh pairs yf cinnamon violet/lacewing cock and yf lacewing dominant pied hen Greywing dark green dominant pied cock and yf cinnamon dominant pied hen yf grey/ clearbody cock and not sure on the hen but ino of some sort. These three pairs are sitting on eggs at the moment, really keen to see what I get from the last pair. Cheers Jenny
  19. Ratzy congratulations on becoming a teen today hope you have a great day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU Cheers Jenny
  20. Hi Robbo, Lovely birds. Basil and Saphire are both males and the rest are all hens. Cheers Jenny PS Saphire looks like a young adult cock, he also may need treatment for scaley face but might need a better photo of his beak.
  21. Hi all got five minutes, thought I'd post some photos of a few of the pairs I have breeding at the moment. This pair have now finished and their babies are fostered under another pair. greygreen spangle hen and greygreen clearbody cock and their previous clutch which have bloodied noses from a hawk hassling them. One of their fostered babies, greygreen spangle opaline clearbody Next pair, cobalt dominant pied cock and yf grey opaline dominant pied hen, this pair is also on their last round and is fostering babies from the first pair. and their two babies yf dominant pied and cinnamon yf dominant pied Next pair also on last round, hope to foster her new babies to the fresh pairs. Dark green spangle dominant pied cock and yf cinnamon dominant pied cobalt hen. their babies so far. I will leave it at that for the moment and put the fresh pairs on when I get some spare time. Cheers Jenny
  22. Hi Maddy, Don't beat yourself up over this you can't predict what any hen will do unless you have a breeding history, next time you will be better prepared for what she might do. Most pairs are quite happy to have their young stay until weaned. Cheers Jenny
  23. Lovely birds Amy, I love opaline spangles they are always so pretty. I think in regards to the melenistic spangles I remember seeing some photos of young ones posted here and they almost look normal in nest feather then mature to a spangle pattern, but I have never had anything to do with them and haven't seen one in the flesh [feather ] lol. Cheers Jenny
  24. Thanks for your replies, I originally thought she may have some dom pied in her but to me her wing pattern is similar to a opaline greywing clearbody hen that I have. There was a spangle dom pied in the aviary but I don't think he was the dad as he doesn't throw her type, but you never know. The bird I think was her dad I lost, originally didn't think it was him as he had a brown cere and his hen had had infertile eggs, he was a show type cinnamon dom pied / lacewing and I think the dad of the lacewing dom pied as well but from different hens, his cere did turn blue during the season for a short time. Anyway haven't been able to put her down to breed yet as she hasn't been in condition but she is getting there, might try her with a clearbody cock at least then i'll know if she's ino or not, also have a yf cinnamon violet/lacewing who is out of her possible fathers mother{ that's a mouthfull lol} he is pictured in my other thread. I think breeding is going to be the only way to solve the mystery just not sure whether I should be putting her to a normal and then breeding from any cocks I get so I dont confuse the bloodlines even more they are mirky enough as it is. Cheers Jenny
