Olive Oil?
sorry guys yes my budgie had scaly face and thats why i used olive oil on the second day i was applying it i think i put a bit to much on and it dribbled down the side and i figured it couldnt hurt the budgie a couple of days later i noticed that there were some feathers missing to the left of the cere and i figured that it was the mites progressing and i put some olive oil on it and he seems top of lost more feathers so before i put more on him to cure something he doesnt have i was wondering if it caused feather loss

Odd Hatching Times
heres what happened i have two breeding pairs at the moment that have laid their eggs and have been sitting on them like good little mums sorry dont have time to put pics in i have a sky blue cock mating with a grey green hen, and a green cock mating with a grey green hen the blue cocks mate has laid 7 eggs and the green ones only 5( they were lain on the same days as each other) i was going to foster eggs from the blues nest to the greens nest as all the top ones are fertile and only one of the bottom eggs are fertile ( foster in 3 eggs) so they both have four in the blue ones nest the first two have hatched already after only 18days(for the first one) and 17 days(for the second) while there has been no action in the greens nest now i have a couple of questions: has the blue ones mate done something differently? and if so what? if i foster eggs into the greens nest and she hasnt "made" them hatch early will she kill them? has anybody else ever heard of something like this? p.s i touched my first baby budgie today

Second Round?
i have been reading that parents can go for a second time while still feeding babies? is this alright to do because i dont want to kill my adult budgies? it has been 1-2 week since the last baby came out and the parents look ready again ( same condition they were in when they had their first round) and theres a budgie egg on the ground that i took out p.s i took out the budgie boxes because i thought they werent supposed to go again straight away and a couple days later i put a tiels breeding box in and the budgies claimed it so i took it out again ( 2-3 days ago)

My Breeding Journal
hi everyone this is my first post here( it may be a little late but ive been reading the forums for a while and felt it was time to make myself known) i got my avairy on chrismas day as a present and got my budgies on boxing day and the day after i got a couple of breeding boxes and put them in ( i didnt know that they werent supposed to breed in summer) less then a week later my budgies started laying eggs this is my first pair top box and this is my second pair bottom box the second pair layed an egg in my top box ( i have a box on the floor and one on a plank about half way up the cage (i didnt know that they would fight over the top one)) after a day it got pecked at by the first pairs mum i think and then she started to lay in the top box and the other one started laying in the bottom box. the top one laid 8 eggs and the bottom one layed 5 not including the one that got crack/pecked. they were both good mums and dutifully sat on the eggs baing fed my their mates. then one day one of the top eggs hatched i was so happy because when i went out it had already been fed (i go out at about 7:30 each morning( and once or twice in the afternoon)). then the next day another one hatches and the next another one hatches. nothing goin on in the bottom box. next day no one hatchs(i hadnt candled the eggs) so i thought that the others were infertile. still nothing happening in the bottom box. the next day another baby hatches in the top box. by this time had been feveratly searching for budgie information and found out that the parents will kill them selfs trying to feed the babys and was worried that they would kill themselfs so i was hopeing that the rest were infertile. two days latter another one hatches and i feel i must do something about it but i dont know what. still nothing happening in the bottom breeding box. another 2 days pass and another one hatches so i final decide to do something about it. i had read on the internet that you can swap eggs and even babys to different mums and htere was a fairly high sucess rate. so i moved the remaining two eggs to the bottum mum and took two of her eggs because i didnt want her thinking were did these two eggs come from and kick them out. 3 days later another baby hatches in the bottum nest this time and i assume that its from the top mum nut i cant be sure till it feathers up abit. the other egg from the top mum didnt hatch. non of the bottom mums did i hope she or her mate isnt infertile. any way heres a photo of all the top babys about two week befor they start coming out of the nest sorry about the picture quality but they wouldnt stay still in this box i cant yet tell some of them but i have 3 blue and what appears to be 3 yellows. but in actual fact i have 3 blue and 3 green. this is the eldest and the first to come out of the nest (didnt bother poking his head out just came out one day) these are the second and third eldest babies ( one was poking his head out for a while and the other wasnt) this is the fourth eldest (came out a day or two after the two above ( was poking his head out for 4 days befor he decided to come out) sorry its not the best picture but he has a yellow face he also has yellow wings this is one of their brothers or sisters poking his head out this photo is of the two babys left in the nest today hopefully both will come out today as they are both over due this is the coulor of a normal green i have once again sorry about the image quality and sorry that the two photos arent together last photo of the dad and one of the babys together as you can see there is a sugnificent difference between the babys colour and dads (all babys colours are the same) i now have a few questions about my budgies what shade of blue is dad and the babys? is the green baby a yf2? are the other two in the nest yf2s? the top mum is goin into the box joining the one the top babys are in. is she defenantly goin to lay in there? i have seen the bottom pair mating again does that mean that she will lay more eggs? opps nearly forgot about the bottom baby budgie. it is a blue and as far as i can tell the same colour blue as the other baby budgies i think that every thing but im sure ill come back on in a few hours and ask some more questions
