ivermectin in Canada
I treat as I find in the aviary...if I see one with scaly face I treat it with spot on. I dont scrub down the aviary at all and I dont remove or isolate the one affected. They all carry it in a dormant form....it pops up here and there, but I dont have it in the aviary often. Stress sometimes brings it out. A pair I once had breeding developed scaly face amidst raising chicks....I treated the parents. The chicks didnt catch it ( hence it isnt terribly contagious ).......one of those chicks 2 years down the track got scaly face. Thats it. Some people get all the different mite conditions mixed up, or go off bad information. Just to let everyone know that Kiwi is doing much better since I applied the drop of Scatt last Friday. Thanks for all your help.

ivermectin in Canada
Thanks again Kaz. Up til now I was fearful of having an epidemic on my hands, because of the things I was told. I gave the pot on to both on Friday. Kiwi seems to be scratching still, but I know it's take some time.

Kaz, you seem to be very sure of your information on scaly mites. Can you educate me a little, because I have heard so much contradicting information? Thank you.

ivermectin in Canada
Thanks Kaz. That makes me feel better because tonight I put them together again. I wanted to clean the 2 cages and I didn't have an extra cage. You're right, there are a lot of conflicting info out there. A breeder that I know told me not to put them together until I was 110% sure she was cured. Also to clean the cage now and after the final treatment.I'm going to try and take a picture of her again tomorrow. It is very hard as she's afraid of the camera.

ivermectin in Canada
I received the Scatt yesterday and applied it to Kiwi and Kazi. How much exactly is a drop anyway-1/4ml, 1/2ml???? This is what I read in one of the posts---"one drop" is roughly 0.05 ml - in other words there are 20 drops in a ml---Is that right?Kazi has been separated from Kiwi for a couple of months now because I was afraid he would get scaly face/feet also. Now that I started the treatment, how long should I wait to put them back together again? I will have to retreat again in 21 days. Also Do I wash their cages now or after the final treatment, and what household product can I use? Vinegar, javex....? Thank you.

ivermectin in Canada
Do you know what the potency is? For example .1% or .8% per ml or litre? Thank you.Today, someone gave me a little of something that's called a drench for chickens that's .8%/ml, but I'm afraid to use it as I don't know what it will do. The man said that he soaks his chicken's feet in it and the feet come back like new. He suggested I do the same with the budgie.

A breeder I know uses the dettol but it didnt work when he demonstrated on a hen of mine, where the spot on ivermectin does. Vaseline is too easy to get in the nostrils unless you are careful with a cotton bud. The ivermectin for cattle diluted has to be done properly as per this topic..... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=24762 Scissorbeak is very different to a beak affected by scalyface...different condition entirely. What would the condition be? It happened all at once. I will try to get a picture tomorrow for you guys. Thanks for all your help.

ivermectin in Canada
Hi all, no I didn't mean to inject them. It is the injectable type, but I would put one drop on the bird. Also is vaseline comparable to parafin oil and if so, would I apply it the same way? Some people use Detol and water-50/50-what do you think? Thanks.Norm, did you use this on your birds-the 10gm/ml one for cattle? Is it too late for vaseline as Kiwi has scissor beak now? She still eats and hasn't lost any feathers, but she bites her feet all the time.

ivermectin in Canada
Hi Norm, this is the one I bought here in Canada. This is the only one I could find. I thought it would be too strong for budgies. Did you use it on budgies? I have the injectable one in a 50ml bottle. Is this the same as yours?

ivermectin in Canada
Hi there. I'm very worried about my little Kiwi and I'm soooo confused about this ivermectin. I have no access to it and can only find the kind for cattle. There is no avian vet in my town so I don't know who to turn to. I would love to get my hands on a little of it somewhere. Would you be able to send me a little? However, I live in Kingston, Ontario Canada, so I don't know if it's possible. If not I will understand.

I also have a question about the proper dose of Ivermectin for budgies. One of your posts said this: "The Ivermectin we have in Australia is different, the one we can get here is a pour on for cattle, it’s 10mg/mL it doesn’t contain Slippery Elm. We just put one drop on the skin & that’s enough…it lasts in the body something like 21 days. If it’s made especially for birds I would just follow the instructions & I would agree with Nerwen, I think the skin dose would be more effective, as if water doesn’t taste good Budgies may not drink for some days." The only Ivermectin that I could find here in Kingston Ontario Canada is the one for cattle-same as above-1ml/10mg of ivermectin. I also bought a diabetic syringe to draw the dropps out, which is a very small needle-3/10cc. I wish I knew if a drop of this is correct because I don't want to cause my budgies any more agony than what they're going through with this awfull infestation. Can someone help me with this question? Is a drop of this okay or do I have to dilute it? Thank you. By the way, I grew up in Australia.
