  1. Today - I got home from school - he was chirping, and I thought - he could be hungry. I raised the food container up to him, and he hopped on, and is currently eating ravenously! I am so happy. Now comes drinking.
  2. okay - I thought he might have been scared when he chirped. He chirped when my mum and brother came in and started talking. At the moment - I am doing homework on my computer. I will turn the radio on and go have lunch soon.
  3. Yes - that was me yesterday.
  4. I covered the cage just then - Yes the bone is sharp. The food is the same - I purchased him from Burwood Pets and Birds. Sorry - the cage is too dark to take photos.
  5. I covered the cage - sides and back, and he is still acting the same. I have put some millet spray on the perch next to him, and there is seed in a container. This is easily accessible to him. He feels the same weight as yesterday. Is the keel bone near his abdomen? If so, it is a little bit sharp - yes.
  6. I have had him for less than 24 hours. SERIOUS PROBLEM: He is eating his nails!!!!!!!! I am sure that he isnt eating.
  7. I am very worried about my new budgie louie. He doesn't eat or drink. He doesn't have a poopy bottom, and his poo looks quite normal. He is chirpy, and when I offer him food, he doesn't eat. Is he just stressed? Or is he a sick birdy?
  8. I am beginning to get worried. He just stands still all the time, and hasn't drank or eaten for nearly 24 hours (I think) When I walk up to the cage, he seems fine, and doesn't panic. PS: He is nibbling at his perch - is there anything I can do?
  9. He doesnt seem to want to eat or drink or move at all! I have put some millet spray on the prech next to him, but he doesn't budge. He hasn't eaten or drank since I got him 5 hours ago.
  10. Hi all! I got my first budgie today! It's a male blue, 9 weeks old. Bought him from "Burwood Pets and Birds" - got him about 4 hours ago. I put my hand in the cage, and he freaked out. I left it in there for about 5 minutes and he got more comfortable, but didn't go near it. He has been behaving weirdly - He just stands still in the cage, and hasnt touched the food or water. Would he have seen the food and water by now? Regular taming updates to follow.
  11. The cage is still fairly wide though. The food and water... (tubs/bowls) are near the bottom. I uploaded a picture to tinypic - but this site wouldnt let me insert it. How do I insert images?
  12. 70cm tall....... But it's still fairly wide Bar spacing is fine - around 1.2-1.3 cm PS: What advantages does a wider cage have for a budgie?
  13. okay. I dont have a budgie yet - but I bought an awesome cage. 70 x 40 x 30 cm. It has a fold out door at the top, 2 side doors for easy access to food and water, a grille, and a large swinging front door. When I put it on top of a wardrobe, about shoulder level, it makes a rattling sound whenever I walk near it. When I put in front of my fireplace (never used) It's fine, and it seems like a good position. Just a few questions. Would it be alright to have the cage up high, with the creaking (this might scare the bird). Or should I keep it down low?

I decided to go with budgies. There is a great pet shop close to me which has many birds, and the advice the staff gave was excellent. I already bought a large cage. So I guess I'll be on here more often! Just one question. I saw on a few websites that budgies arent cuddly and boring when compared to cockatiels. Are your budgies cuddly?

Hey. I'm new here and am going to purchase a budgie or a cockatiel soon. Most likely a cockatiel. Just wondering, are there any breeders based in Melbourne? Thanks
