2009 Australian Nationals
I see you have places 1st 2nd and 3rd... SQ stopped that as it was a selection for the team and that the birds can change in a week. So we now have 1st, 1st, 1st...... There are no 2nd or 3rd but there are 4th to 10th. Congratulations Gina, I'll be watch them with interest. Well done to all that got birds in the their state teams. I am truely looking forward to a great time this weekend and hope to see as many their as possible. To the careers. If your top three birds would fetch an average of $1500 each at auction, you will be carering for $99,000 worth of birds this weekend. If you find that you have 5 national winners with an average value of $4000 each, you will be taking home $113,000 worth of birds.

Confused - Co Dominance
Pairing two Dark Greens will give 25% light green, 50% dark Green and 25% Olive.
-
Confused - Co Dominance
If the hen is a grey green you'll need to include the grey factor in the equation. Grey will mix with Green so you can get normal grey greens and dark grey greens.

Thanks Jimmy, I have bred pet shop birds in a colony environment for years and am just getting into show breeding and joined the ABS only recently. Cant wait to get my hands dirty Jim As a member of ABS, will you be at the Preselections in Hendra on Sunday? If so I'll be working the computer for the Scoreboard. Give me a yell.

What Might I Get
Yellowface Greywing Sky Blue Cock and Green Dilute Hen Very interesting. We need to consider Dominance in recessives here. Greywing is domminant to Dilute so the outcome will be. 50% yellowface all the chicks will be Green Greywings but split blue. I'll need to check but I think they all will be split Dilute as well

Confused - Co Dominance
The out come of your pairing should be: Cocks all split to Opaline and Cinnamon 50% will be Dark Green 50% light green Hens will all be Normals 50% Dark Green, 50% light green. Co-dominant Co-dominat is the form of inheritance whereby both the wildtype allele and the mutant allele express themselves equally, As a result, three different phenotypes occur in this situation: the homozgous wildtype, the heterozygous phenotype and the homozygous mutant phenotype. Co-dominace can also occur between two mutant alleles in a multiple allelic series, once again producing three distinct phenotypes. In fact it is the most common form of genetic interaction between multiple alleles of loci controlling plumabge colouration. It is also known and incomplete dominance. Quote from A guide to Colour Mutations & Genetics in Parrots By Dr Terry Martin BVSc . So you are correct as there are three equal expressions of colour. No dark factor, 1 dark factor and 2 dark factor. You dark factor Green ( I assume is a Dark Green and not oliver) has 1 dark factor.

Why?
6 - 8 hours in a car (airconditioned) might be better than 4 hours at an airport than 5 1/2 hour flight across Australia than another 1 hour in AAE than 3 hour drive to the venue. (last year )
