  1. The first thing I'd do and this is probibly too late is to Quarrentine them. Click on my Quarrentine link in my Signature to find out how and why. Also welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy.
  2. In breeding or Line breeding is the same thing, basically. It is a process by which you build up a gene pool in the aviary. Most Breeders of Show animals do this. It is designed to strengthen or enhanse features in the Animal. Some don't practice line breeding as close as Father Daughter, Mother Son or Brother sister. Most usually breed Uncle to niece, Aunt to Nephew, or Cousen to Cousen. It is something that occurs a great deal with in the wild or in your Aviary if you coloney breed. Some people here are greatly apposed to it. It is a matter of opinion and morrals.
  3. ...I am looking forward to them... Congratulations Karen.

  7. Some good links to information on genetics. Genetics and Colour Breeding for Budgerigars - Ghalib Al-Nasser A Glance at Genetics with Keith Flockhart Dr John Pilkington Answers Questions on Genetics Breeding Dark Factor Budgerigars of Exhibition Standard - Gren Norris
  8. Rainbow there is no yellow on the mothers wings. She is in fact a cinnamon :ausb: I hadn't noticed the wing edges. I'll have a look tonight when I get home.
  9. What is this one What the????
  10. A very good example of a type II notice the Bleed into the body colour. In show terms that motle effect is call the suffusion. That is why type II's are not good for Shows. A budgerigar should be of full body colour. Exceptions, Pieds ect. By the way a very beautiful bird.
  11. There are many things to learn about show budgies and the best thing is I am enjoying it. Thank Hath
  12. Thanks Hath. The flecking is a problem in England and Australia. The strangest thing is you can breed to a clear cap and get all clear caps but the next generation can have the flecking back. I am keeping good records of him on who I am breeding nim to. Lin it is not unusual for top level show birds to fetch up to $5000.00au The highest I have experienced is an offer of $1800au Cash to a breeder after his bird came 2nd in a show. The breed past on the sale as he could get $3000.00au in Sydney for the bird. Thanks Bubbles I hope to have a couple more in the next few weeks to strengthen the Flock. I was hoping to enter one or two in a Nest Feather Show later in the year. Don't thinl I'll go any good but might help me find out where I am in the Show World. I am now rated as Novest.
  13. Good Thinking Nerwen. A great idea for a post.
  14. I wasn't sure wheather to get him or not because of the flecking, but some expert advice helped me to decide. He costed me $80.00au at the auction. A Dominant pied hen, I tried to get, finished up at $310.00au. I stopped my bid at $215.00au. There is an Auction here in Brisbane on the 23rd. Some of the birds will pass $3,000.00au. I will be trying for some of the birds but not at that price.
  15. LOL No rainbow they are type I. Nerwen they have a class for Yellowfaces. but the bleed is refered to as suffusion which on any show budgie is a penalty.
  16. Breeding some mutation togeather can enhanse the offspring but the wrong pairing can be bad. This is what an opaline should look like. If you breed Opaline to Opaline you start to loose the wing markings. This is not what you want for a show biord. Note the lose of markings on the wings and shoulder. Click on the photos to enlarge them
  17. Breeding for Show, I don't want a type II. They are not judged well. In fact they are penilised because of the bleed. Here is my type I (MUM) Large Picture And her daughter 43 days old Large Picture

Good Point Lovey. Mine come out of the nest box around 28days but stay in the breeding cage with the parents until they are 42 days. I weigh them once a week to make sure they are okay before puting them in the nursary. They stay in there for two weeks before going into the flight. All chicks are weighed weekly and monitored everyday to make sure they are eating and drinking.

(Current)
  23. I didn't know that..there you go you learn something everyday. :ausb: I have crossed a Cobalt(male) with a Cinnamon Skyblue Yellowface Type I (female) Two offspring. Male = Cobalt Female = Skyblue Yellowface type I Won't know if split till 12months time. They will be coming out of the Breeding cage tomorrow. Going into the Nursary for a few months. Photos tomorrow.
  24. ummm a yellow face crossed with a normal(Other) gives Normal (others) split to Yellowface. So a Yellowface male crossed with a Opaline Female should give Normals split to yellow faces and Males that are split to Opaline. a Yellow Face crossed with a Normal Split to yellowface should give 50% normals split to yellow faces and 50% yellowfaces. Colour wise I am only going on what Karen is telling me of Violet Skyblues. :ausb:
  25. Recessive Pied are known to have two base colours. Green which the body is yellow and usually green patches and Blue which the body colour is infact white. To this you can have sky, cobalt, mouve and greys patches. (Also Violets)
