Please HELP,
we have (had) the most beautiful pair of budgies that have just produced a gorgeous batch of 5 babies. We were just cleaning out the cage, when before I knew it, Parra, the mother bird flew out of the cage, and is GONE!!!
The father is fantastic, well, has been over the past weeks. Is it likely that he will take over the rearing completely?? The babies range from 3 weeks 6 days, to 2 weeks 5 days.
I am totally devastated, the kids and I have been blubbering for hours, and are just at a loss for what to do!!
I have read that they are not ready to survive on their own before 6 weeks, so am at a loss for what to do. I have hand rearing formula here, as the mum adandonded one of her babies early on, then after a week of hand feeding it, she re-united with it and has been fantasic. I feel so bad, it all happened so quickly, and in over 2 years, she has never done this before.
Please, can anyone give me some advice on how the fathers usually cope in a situation like this. Do I need to step up around the clock??? I'll do anything!!
