  1. all though im staying right out of what should be called what n whats right or wrong that was very well put Libby :}
  2. can i add to this by saying with a hen in my opinion and what i have seen through my own breeding results these cob hens with the direction unless they have a long mask and good feather are of no use at all as the genetic carries over into the chicks regardless of weather the cock has a long mask to make up for it a rule i try to stick to is 1) don't use cock headed hens to freely as the tend to produce chicks that are nipped in head as apposed to good quality as they visually at their best and retain lesser quality's in their genetics (unless of course you have good knowledge of a strong background in her breeding ) in that case would be nothing but an improvement to your stock only most cock headed hens are fry in pan(once off ) and if someones letting it go then its for a reason 2)never buy a small hen if it has a short mask as its two bad fetchers your doubling up on in the one bird 3)all cob hens must have good frontage direction around cere and a back scull with the right feather and not lean on the perch but sit /stand tall 4)always use a cock with direction more so than height as other wise your going to end up with a clutch full of chicks with height on head and no improvement in direction across the cere at least if they improve in the directional feather its instilled their quiet substantially in all the chicks giving the second generation a real chance at improving in the height and direction the feather lays last but not least try not to breed with cocks that pull back their blow (like its got brill cream in it ) this is a trate that once established its hard to eradicate
  3. watery poo in nest period can be sign of lack of salt in minerals what minerals do you have in cage ????
  4. yea pinkys yea a breeding journal was getting boring around here :{ congrats and ill be following :}
  5. you got selections tonight well good luck hun hope you get some in and if you cull any more of the /dilutes let us know please or if you know anyone with / dilute hens or a dilute hen id be interested to know cheers
  6. hello lizzy im so sad for your situation its horrible to find out your friends are so un well i havent seen anyone that i know knit jumper but yes its true more for cockys and small parrots like loris and so on im sure someone here will be able to help you out with it ill ask around and stuff for you :} is very possible
  7. what happened to your little split dilutes your not culling any them are you?? if you are well i wouldn't mind discussing i have beautiful dilute cock and no hen for him if i use him to make splits im going to be waiting till 2013 till i get the dilute needed to put into my albinos :{ needs to be blue serried too id love to see them chicks now all the ones from around that time if you have time for pics :}
  8. i know splat im talking know matter what level your at good birds are their and so are good people its just being in the right place at the right time sometimes other times you need to hunt it but i dont believe you need to pay massive amounts to improve your birds specially if you are clever cause their are a lot of birds brought then discarded every year from auctions that apparently dont work these birds are normally just stressed out and needed time to be accustom to new home but instead were waked in a breeding cabinet soon as they got home :{ i have done this myself as i was told it was the way to go but i do not believe this anymore the birds need the quarantine time to actually settle in .....but point is you could pick up a bird worth 15oo to 17oo for 50.00 to a hundred dollars due to a impatient breeder from the top placings or maybe a a expensive one that's no longer being used in their stud for 200.00 to 3oo.00 which in my eyes is big bucks and the most id probably go i truly believe if you work your stud slowly then basically your birds better themselves its mainly the incoming cross outs that bring it backwards why having a few lines with specific features works good you can cross your out birds out that way harder slower yes but in long run i believe satisfying
  9. he looks like a she and in photo does not look grey wing but i believe you that she is as shes did you use a flash i think you did it changes the colours of bird but think hes a female under 6 months maybe about 4 months old
  10. im sorry i dont agree you need deep pockets or lots money to bring in a good bird i do believe you need a good eye to be able to work with what you have a very good photographic memory and a very good ability to remember family lines and history with out going back through your books even the birds you buy you need to retain a vision of their family's traits looks as so you do just go by what they visually look like you need to remember this so you can make certain not to double up on a fault that the bird your useings relatives dont hold the same one even going back to the grand father if possible why its so much easier to breed good birds after 5 years as you have a good understanding of what faults each line has and can be certain not to bring it in or to double it up from other family's you may be running also also auctions always have the odd pass in well worth any beginner grabbing so would not thinking that well if their not good enough for the big guys then their not good enough for me y as thats a crappy way to think as most likely that one no one wants will hold the hidden treasure :} and for a lousy 20.00 to 50.00 bucks now thats a deal if you ask me sure birds are not cheep but that to me is only in their up keeping and maintenance the birds themselves if you lok hard n dont just buy straight away you can always find a good one with exactly what your looking for and a good price its just matter of patience
  11. yes very nice i spesh love the violet boy :} but you knew that
  12. ...no less than each section at 1 and half meter wide ,and 3 long by 2 meters high anything more is great length and wight wise and the taller the roof the less heat so the most you can get for price and yard space is in my opinion best relly depends on what your keeping ( how many birds i mean )
  13. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa finally back to the birds :} yes i think it is kaz :}
  14. it was not hard meashured the inside of flight went to wood place told them i want this much cut in these lengths delivered :} cost me 1 something under 2 hundred anyways then for 10 meter mouse mess 30 bucks and few hinges for the door a friend whom could hammer stuff and measure straight (un like me ) 9 hours later ..... done
  15. well you can all believe its something spesh me i just think its a sky blue budgie the colour on budgies differentiates quiet alot from bird to bird and pets colors are different to show kaz as we strive for deep dark clear solid colour structure well i do anyways my blue birds have aqua green on edging of their tails(my skys ) so well ratzy have fun with it all unless you can put it next to five other skyblue birds of same no dark factor and proper lighting (day light no artificial lights at all ) and so on so on im afraid im jumping ship on this as i think its just normal sorry guys
  16. if two of your other birds were not really hurt but had sighns of being around the breeders nest box and they them selfs are male in female they re wanting to nest they wont stop just as they had their toes bitten you will end up with lots trouble cover whole breeding cages dont worry about the sun its possable you could sit outside on weekends and watch your birds and leave cover up while your their for bit of sunn on week ends or week nights but if i was you just give carrots in silver beat bit boiled egg and leave cover on daily or you will in counter no chicks hatching and toe less birds :{
  17. if weather here is same as their prob best to wait till march end of feb even as she will be twelve months by time she lays if you put her down say feb 13 /16
  18. that tail looks normal for a sky blue bird do you really think theirs something to these birds i mean my yellow face birds that were born with white faces and molted out into really light lemon faces at 6 months was weirder than a green tail i was actually told to hang on to them but to secure a new mutation if at all it is one would take alot of breeding and recording of thigs pics extra razy sorry to be a non believer but i believe green tail or not theirs no possible way you could secure a mutation based on your age and fact that your Peronts only let you get a second bird so you did not annoy them for a pony or what not else you may desire so this meaning their would be no way of actually breeding up the number of birds required to follow this so call mystery through personally i think its quiet normal for the odd bird to grow a odd tail my cinnamon spangle has a cinnamon tail deep dark cinnamon not white at all she is not pied and only grew it in after two year of age its been white for two years intill last molt :} birds are funny why we love them so
  19. also the hen was unused so its her first clutch as kaz said make sure you talk and tap nest let her know your comming dad could be right but if shes scampering out more likely her i dont check nest box if hens jumpy i just cheak i see the hen twice day morning feeding and night you can tell if shes stressed or got issues just by watching behavior if she continues to scamper just monitor her not the content of box till chicks are due :} if all eggs were not broken it will be an accident im sure if happens again id be watching the cock closely as if hens going break or eat eggs she wouldnt be sitting for you to make her scamper
  20. The reason because is, as I stated in my original post,I would love to be able to give my budgies some form of seaweed as I know it is nutritous to them, and I do not have the fresh stuff availble. We often eat sushi, like you, (It is YUMMY! ) and sometimes mum has a sheet leftover. I thought that the seaweed meal was expensive, (like $30+) compared to $3 for a packet of Nori. But I am going to look in the healthfood shops for the seaweed meal, see what I get mate for seaweed powder to cost 30 dollors it would need to be wrapped in gold plated paper 6 dollors for one kilo is all i payed and so far i have only use 1 quarter of a kilo in 6 months :}
  21. i agree with all the above :}
  22. GenericBlue replied to jlee's topic in Budgie Safety
    all im going to say is one its unfortunate that you have owls scaring you birds but they are one of the most beautiful pray birds around so please dont try to hurt them owls can be deterred by the noise of a wind mill (they ones that you get at garden shops with the coloured ribbons as the turn they make a swooshing noise quiet loud you can make your own with a old bike wheel and ribbons this way it can suit your taste also the budgies will get use to the sound other wise chimes in all the trees :} and close to aviary not just small ones or just run out with a pot when ever you see them and clang it loudly as you run out they will stop comming if they think that your going to run out clanging a pot every time they want dinner if they are nesting you will need to call your local fishery's and wild life they will have to move them if you mention them swooping your children ( or was that someone else that happened too ?? ) any ways loud noise as owls work on stealth and silence
  23. Looks like an albino male to me too. I had one similar and his eyes were so dark that I couldn't see the red in them but he was proven by breeding to be albino Thanks for the confirmation Neville. I have found photos of the original birds the day I bought them. I also had an Albino female but the rat got her earlier this year. This is the photo of the albino female (1 year old) and Marvin as I bought them as a pair (If I had known genetics then I would have quite happily paired these two up!!!!!!!!!!) This is Snowflake and Ma when I bought them - also 1 year olds. The main problem being is the bird on the left is the now Albino male and the bird on the right (with deformed feet) is Ma, Double Factor spangle mum. So without knowing these birds histories - what genetics are these three white birds please? Sorry to keep going on about these white birds but I am confused as to when this Albino male came along. He had a brownish cere when I got them as you can see but in later photos I have he is definitely an Albino male as his cere is same as now. Are these birds younger than 1 year when I got them or is something wrong with the Albino's cere? Many thanks well as far as your white birds are if this is defensively the bird that i said looks albino male well its actually not a albino male as here its clearly a hen and a df spangle by looks as you first stared second if this is so then your hen is no good for breeding and not a baby in this new picture so i can only say i know your going to hate me but please would it be possible to get new picture of this bird sitting about same distance as the picture above and also one with cere front on not bird upside down but facing us ??? and try get shot of her in light day light so can see eyes again just to make sure its not albino male and something weird going on lol im thinking that the albino hen was a cock and maybe your df got eatten by a rat ????
  24. yes sorry but i got pics i just cant get any up :{ i got picks of breeding cage set up too :{ for squeek
