  3. Funny....I just noticed even this guy has a keyhole look Renee actually quite a few on the photos of the birds at the Nationals did have that look. I KNOW! I saw that too ... I guess that is an example of how the goal post keep on moving ... it was only really last year and especially this year that I heard the term "the modern bird" and it was being used in relation to the rounded headed birds. Here is an example of that Round Headed bird I have been talking about, not my bred, it is a Cec and Brenda Gearing bird I was lucky enough to buy earlier this year (sorry if the photo is blurry!) well renee that is one beaut bird you managed to grab hold of my goodness but again the key hole lol im sorry to say all good birds moden or not have this look its the part in the mask you dont want like the blue bellow you want the mask to be as your bird above who by way i would be useing much as possible  lol ps the violet hen im resting till next year late she has a partner and if she is okay to go then she will be breed but only once as she is so fat and big lol she seems to be lovley matured here in my flock and never bitten me yet
  4. lol i find if you hope less you get more
  5. renee you would be able to archive that if the violet hen that you sent me is anything to go by then you must have a amount of very nice big hens if you really put your mind set in one direction you could produce a bird like him you just need a long blowy cock to a hen like her and you would be on your way oh ps the rec cock he had a chick he is split cinnamon to the /rec green hen only one chick lived as being madden hen she did not feed the first few born early hours gave her a older chick and that night last bub hatched and was feed  its not a rec pied but a lovely bird
  6. good luck with it all you will be fine
  7. okay thats more understandable i totally know what your after now the first picture you placed was not of my liking however this bird is beautiful stands tall nice mask blow is like a pom pom and covering eyes this boy is lovely yes i now see your vision
  8. You may be right. I refer to it more as a spiral than a crest, but it is definately 'directional' feathering. Im still in the very early stages of breeding show birds (having started with pet type stock and lesser show quality birds) so I don't have a great amount of experience with directional feathering. All my chicks have had pins either sweeping straight back over the head laying flat, or they have been sweeping back but standing up more like porcupines (those are better birds with better feather). I have had chicks with varying degrees of feather sweeping out over the brow, but never had such an obvious disturbance of feather that clearly was and is growing forward at the front, out to the sides and then finally sweeping back further up the skull. This could be standard in all birds with good blow, but then it makes me wonder why no-body mentioned this as normal when I posted the pics? Many of you have far better birds than I, and no-one had seen or commented on seeing such a disturbance in the feathering before. I watch a lot of breeding journals of GOOD birds here and havent seen it either. So is it standard directional feather? Is this disturbance present in all birds with great blow? Or is it just another way to get the same appearance? Edit: You would be surprised at the parents. They are not large birds, nor do EITHER of them have good mask length, blow, or feathering. The cock is mediokre at best, average size, smallish head etc etc, decent spots but poor mask length etc. The hen is even worse lol, but she was a violet and I took any show-bred violets I could, knowing the genes passed on may produce better offspring. The best features of either parent is fertility - the cock will mate with ANY hen I put him to and fills every egg, an EXCELLENT feeder. The hen lays 10-12 a round and successfully raised 12 chicks in 2 rounds (foster parents killed half her first round). This last round has 8 siblings, 6 cocks 2 hens so. this is the way to grab what you can with the genetic make ups your after and add size and mask latter not many do things this way but i do and its payed off i have some great birds from lesser cocks with great backgrounds and lesser hens also with good history i just brought some lovely big hens two o9 and 3 other older birds today and some older cocks of very nice quality these hens are a size up in size from most hen birds i have and am hoping they will just add that extra something to my birds im not sure about the cresty thing i never seen it either but im only new also to show birds i started as you did good luck with your breeding i for one would like to see more your breed birds troughs hens are nice i want the one shannon wants
  9. very nice mate they should get some lovely bubbys
  10. whats really sad about this is that not only alot of birds were killed but one family lost many birds almost 10 or more as someone mentioned probably their best birds and nothing can bring back a good bird
  11. Back Yard Show Budgie Breeders - want healthy happy Show budgies that are Variety bred Show Budgie Breeders - want healthy happy Show budgies that are Variety bred to the current Style everyone has their own style ren their is no differences in show breeders you either breed for show or you dont some achive the look you like but they are very disciplined breeders and have set plan they are very strickt with what stays and what comes in good luck with your archiving of this style i recon a few hair extensions on some the birds would get you their quiet quickly :fear i couldnt get the picture of look im after but its here in budgie world the violet when you scroll down page i love the stance and his face fetchers he is a well balanced bird with swank http://www.budgerigarworld.com/
  12. Who Says so ??? :celebrate: i think she ment as in the really big studs that just want a winning bird probably my influence their kaz i just tend to see most breeders who have lost the love of the actual bird and go on looks and breed ability they bounce the birds that dont produce or that they dont use regardless of their potential to others as they dont want lines breed from their stock sad but true :celebrate: they dont enjoy suprizeses I know some really big studs and even though those breeders will and have paid around Ten thousand dollars at times for their outcrosses, I have still witnessed joy on their faces at looking at their surprises in their nestboxes ...just like any of us with our $20 birds. You can never generalise about a group of people as those that do not feel that joy would be in the minority and once they have lost that ability to see joy in the surprises and just see $$ signs then they shouldnt be in the hobby. i agree kaz but many still are

  14. lol i cant run anymore between the heat and my walking aid im looking kinda like road kill so im going to have to turn around  mabe next time but definitely will have to have a drop or two one day :celebrate: even if via phone or cam lol i know where you coming from with the tunna lol i can picture it clearly :bliss: i myself didnt mind the old tables till i did my back and leg :bliss: now i just kind of look like im rap dancing (as in fallen on floor sprawling around trying to get my none active knee to stay supportive ) when i go out for drinks in future im going to start in a wheelchair rather than end up in one so i didnt do two bad in my guess i got a few wrong the grey wing i put as type 2 the opaline i put as type one but could not see the mild yellow sufuss in her wings 'i didnt even conbsider the both mutations as a mix but got the df right after veiwing the pics of her after the first shot where she tended to looklike a type 2 later pics reviled other wize so im happy with that as if the birds were in frount of me im sure i would have been on the ball give or take the mixed mutants :bliss:

  18. As long as Renee doesnt cook  Oh I don't know, some people prefer scorched snags and torched steaks combined with limp lettuce and squishy tomatoes - at least you know you'll be getting good grog! okay, back on topic.I will forget the term Aussie YF Mutant II and from now on in my mind refer to them as SF Golden Faces. I am sure it has been said elsewhere, but what is the Visual difference between a SF and DF Yellow Face (is it the suffusion?) and WHAT happens if you breed YF to GF, visually and genetically? gb is ing ing :bliss: ing but feels discussion will be over fine with burnt scortched lol as i am usto this salad squashed or not grog will make anything look good lol as for yf and gf ren dont even do this as its just a mess to work out what you have in end but birds are pretty
  19. the best way to achive a certain breed or variaty ren is to get straght to the best possable way for an out come eg lutes well a lute thats not masking anything but say something else you may want to breed eg opaline their for all hens are either opaline or lute or both when put to a normal hen eg number two df spangles get a df spangle breed to a spangle for half half out come but normally more df spangles from experiance its about planning again ren and knowing where your headed
  20. And without a photo it's very difficult to describe. I will post you tomorrow a photo of one of my chickies that has "the look". shannon their is no look apart from look you want to achieve yes the bigger boys play big buffy boof head birds but they all been breeding for years and bringing birds from over seas to achive this look took them while too they only poping up now and again as they really hard to keep breeding fertile birds with them most the birds breed boof headed are from ai wheres the challange their
  21. you breed a bird to your own look ren you breed your own head your own stud too be reconized as yours the buffalo head as you call it they are very nice but honestly we breeding birds here or perrshain cats you want a big buffolo head bird then i say sell your flock and spend some dollors get 4 pair of this but belive me you will be buying in the keyhole birds to keep the fertility and the length the buff head is easy to achive its a time and patience thing and an eye for quality in features nubbly is achiving the nice round headed birds just ask her how long and what it involves personlly i know they will be out of fashion in no time im breeding for my own look as is nubbly and may i say doing bloody great job splat and kaz also both have birds with certain look going off take a walk to your aviry do you birds have their own destinkt look ???? if the answer is no then you need to reasece your breeding plan unless your happy just to breed birds not achive a name for your stud i know what im aimming for will be years mabe even 20 or more but im young have the time the patiance and the eye i belive (i mean an eye for what im aimming for not the eye to pair ) my plan is set was 3 years ago im just gathering stock and playing till i have what i need to persue my start buffalo out you watch
  22. More photos keyhole or not..I like him and he is only just 6 months old. above is a young bird not really key hole all birds have this key hole look ... im sorry but the key hole look was what everyone was arter only 5 years ago so ....and personally i still look for this its the best way to get birds with large blow on head just wack too a boof head hen and wammo this your own cock ren look key hole flanagan and sheppard bird key hole very well breed cock bird again key hole carl adler c&b gerring breed bird a fantastic bird key hole this is a perfict bird and anyone thing diffrent then i say give up now again ren key hole so you tell me how do you get rid of it ...???? why even the biggist cat head bird needs the key hole to achive the perfict look the above bird was exactly what people wanted this is comming back mark my words
  23. that first bird has a red ring thats only o9 so im not sure where you get 06 from unless your in another country funny anough i was chatting to rip this morn about conternental clear flights (dutch pied ) although she did say their markings are on top half more is it posable hes that ???? my only other guess is a mixed pied eg from a dom /rec breeding to a rec pied or a split rec pied but i really dont know these just guesses cant help on other one wasnt much help anyway lol
  24. The photo is not really good enough to say, sorry. Are you sure that the parents were both grey spangles. Could one of them have been a mauve GF spangle. Sometimes single factor GF Mauves are mistaken for greys. What colour was this bird as a baby? snap lol my thoughts oh and dont start with out me although i will take a while to walk their
  25.  good idea kaz just to say i was wrong also as the yf is classed as split yf in a green bird as green is dominant over yf and in blue the blue is rececive to yf and yf domonaint over the blue and their right their is where i go  how ever i understand it myself just cant explain but as long as i keep breeding my own df agf im all good need a cobalt or mauve hen in show stock before i can breed my agf sky blue boy and going to take a while to get it to df form as he is single factor so ....but thats the fun isnt it
