  1. Nice! They are both adults. They are such funny creatures to watch and I'm sure they will bring you loads of joy and entertainment! I don't think the newspaper needs to be shredded, to me that kind of defeats the point of putting it down to make the cage easier to clean! It will probably end up shredded though :cake: if they can reach it. I'm not sure why the female has brown above her beak? To me that is not a good sign, but it might not be anything serious so I hope one of the others can help you on that.
  2. Why are these ones all over the ground? Don't they have enough perches either? Or are they too young to sit on perches?
  3. Yeah I'm feeling a little better about the house now, because the property manager really knows that we're interested and I think she will ring us- I just hope it's at a time that suits. Can do nothing but wait now. But I am not happy - just found out where the music is coming from and it's new people who have just moved in, so I hope it doesn't continue lots more
  4. Update.... I rang, and I guess the inspection won't be tomorrow after all there has been some complications and they'll ring later in the week with a new time. After I waited anxiously by the phone all day I am not happy that I am now even less certain about when it's going to be and whether I'll be available to go.
  5. Any recent photos of the babies?
  6. Show types and bush budgies are not the same -- in fact they're pretty much opposites! Bush budgies are tiny and found in their natural state in the wild. Show budgies have been bred for particular qualities that usually make them very big. Physically they are quite unlike bush budgies. Hope that helps!
  7. Grr! Since some of you are following my house story (seen here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=24315 ) I thought it would be a good place to whinge. This afternoon is just being really annoying so far. Thankfully not for any huge or serious reason. I'm supposed to be studying from home, and there is this loud music with very loud bass going from one of my neighbours' houses. I can't concentrate. I had to shut my window, but I can still hear it, and now it's hot!!! I just want some peace and quiet to do my work. It's hard enough to concentrate on something that I don't want to do as it is Also.... I am just waiting and waiting to hear from the real estate people about what time the inspection is tomorrow. It's 3pm and the thing is tomorrow.... how is anybody supposed to manage with such short notice? I called them on Friday and they just said "We still don't have a time yet, but we if you're on the list we will call you". I feel like if it gets to the end of today, I should really call them- I know for a fact that I am the last person on the list (or very close to it) because I contacted them after they'd stopped advertising. I just can't trust that they'll call me if it's this late and I'm the last person and they obviously had heaps of interest. But I don't want to call them because they told me that they would call me -- twice. I don't want to be a pain or pushy, especially because I got this "we will call you" vibe off them.... but sometimes you have to be pushy to get what you want and I don't like that at all I really don't like the idea of it being tomorrow and me still not knowing though... I have to know today so we can even work out who takes the car, how I'm getting there, if my husband will make it there or not, etc. Why are they keeping me waiting so long Whew that feels better but the beatboxing is still going strong
  8. Nah, the background makes them stand out even more! Good point KAZ - I did notice they were clinging all over the wire but hadn't noticed that there weren't many perches or branches in there.
  9. They're lovely... you have such a beautiful variety of colours
  10. I knew I should've saved up for a bigger pool
  11. I agree-- female And she is a baby. Not sure of the age... between 6wks and 3 months probably.
  12. If your parents don't want you to have a third budgie, why are you breeding them? As soon as that happens there probably won't be three-- more like you'll have 6 or 7 budgies all of a sudden. If you are going to breed budgies, you would be better off getting two more females and having two breeding pairs. That way, you can breed them at the same time and foster them if one pair doesn't raise their babies right, and then you will have slightly more genetic diversity so that you can breed the offspring with each other and they won't be related (although you'll need more new budgies or else the third generation will have to be inbred anyway).
  13. I think they're both female too. The second one clearly is... the first one I can't see the photo well enough cos it's too small but it seemed brown, in which case it would be female
  14. Yay! I have been waiting to see these and they are so beautiful!!! My guess... is that the TCB is a boy and so is chick 3. Not sure about chick 2.... it's purplish but I might still think it's a hen.
  15. Aww I have submitted already, but funnily enough the picture I submitted for Feb he is in that exact same pose!
  16. Thanks Liv It is only the outer layer.... actually straight after I posted this, he scratched it with his foot and this flake fell off. It looks a lot better now although the underneath layer is a bit rougher than the outside layer was. He has been moulting recently and looks healthy otherwise, so hopefully it is nothing!
  17. All of a sudden, Cosmo has a big crack in his beak. The photo doesn't really show it well but it also seems like the top layer near the crack is thinly flaked... as in, it looks pale because it's probably got a little air under it. But I would say that is just part of it being cracked. Is this normal? How could it have happened? Yesterday it was fine. Just wanted to check if you think it is anything, and if it is, what could I do to help? Close up of the beak Posing for you all
  18. If it was me I would just look after her as long as possible... but on the other hand, if she's like this for a while it could be hard on the kids. I had one pet budgie for about 9 years, until he got a brain tumour and had all these seizures which were horrifying to watch. I couldn't put him out of his misery, but doted on him until he went. But he was like that for a couple of weeks before he died and I was a mess... So it's a really tough call, I can't really say what is best for your family. *hugs*
  19. Is the pied still having trouble flying? If so, that would be my choice.
  20. Update: I rang the agent because I remembered the inspection was meant to be the 3rd of Feb. Whew... good thing I did. So they put my name down on the list again. There time hasn't been decided yet, but the inspection is on Tuesday!!!!!! I downloaded the application forms and whew---- so stressful--- there was a page in there that my current property manager is supposed to fill out and fax to them. But today is her last day in the office before annual leave! SO glad I printed the forms today rather than waiting until the weekend. I hope she gets my email and does the fax and it goes through. I don't trust faxes very much My husband works late on Tuesdays... hope he can make the inspection
  21. Congratulations! I'm doing a GradDipEd myself this year, also externally (mostly online) but mine is in early years... prep to grade 3

I haven't done it yet... I think it's good for him to fly while it's still safe to do so. I don't think they're blood feathers though, and I don't clip too close to the base because I do let him have a little bit to fly with. I just don't want him circling around the ceilings. Thanks for all your advice.. I will clip as soon as he gets uncomfortably high.
  23. It should be fine. Even though it's definitely best to not let them breed before a year, it doesn't mean something terrible is going to happen every time they breed earlier. There's a very good chance she'll just lay the egg and be fine. Now you know about it you can try to stop it happening again. It wouldn't be good if she kept laying lots of eggs while she's still growing up herself but it's unlikely that this one will be too bad on its own. Hope she lays soon to give you peace of mind!
  24. Can't wait to see them!
