  1. He's still blue under his wings, and he was blue to begin with (see the picture in my signature - that was within our first week of having him) I'm pretty sure he's cobalt. Just not sure on the YF2 vs goldenface, but I lean towards YF2 for now, depending on how dark his yellow/green goes once he's an adult. He's almost there I think, I guess that he's around 9 months.
  2. Were they really bright yellow (deep and vivid, like bright yellow paint)? If they were more "buttercup" like a softer yellow, they were probably actually creamino... which makes a lot of sense why they would have a YF baby, but not sure about what you would expect all their other babies to look like.
  3. okay... I think the photo I showed is quite an accurate one of how bright his yellow is. It's kind of in between the two you've shown! I think he is yf2, but he's still not fully grown up yet... and his yellow always gets brighter. I will probably be able to tell once he's finished his moult and got his adult colour whether his yellow is as bright as that one. It's certainly not that bright just yet.
  4. So what is Cosmo? Even though you'd probably call him "green" now, I think you can still tell that it's a very blue colour.
  5. Was going to ask the same thing after my recent thread that showed Cosmo's colour change from blue to green... He now looks like this: and people said he was goldenface, even though when I first posted on here people told me YF2. Very curious
  6. Haha hilarious! Thanks for an entertaining way of updating us on the situation. This was my favourite bit:
  7. This just refers to Cosmo, but I tamed a lot of others when I used to have budgies in the past. 1. How old was your budgie (s) when you purchased him/her I don't know how old he was. He was a baby for sure, and it was a few months before his first moult. Could've been anything between 8-12 weeks I reckon. 2. If you tamed your budgie right out of the nest, when did you start taming and handling the chick? n/a 3. Was your budgie tame a little or not at all? Not at all 4. When you tamed your budgie was he the only budgie, or did you buy them in pairs, or was he an addition? Did your first budgie stay tame, and how did the taming go for the additional budgie (s) There were no others, we just got the one 5. What is your best tip you can give (don't say everyone else gave good tips (Laughing out loud)) what did YOU find worked well for you and WHY? What worked well for us was using a chopstick as a transition to our finger. For some reason he was afraid of our hands, but not of the chopstick. He would step up onto it, and we taught him the actual "step up" with it. He even let us scratch his neck with it. We held onto the thick end and he had to stand on the skinny end, and eventually as he got more comfortable with us he walked up the thicker end closer to our hand until one day he was standing on my hand! He is now afraid of the chopstick 6 months later-- so this would only work probably with a young bird or one that isn't afraid of the object you choose to use. Although I guess if I wanted to get Cosmo to not be scared of the chopstick again I could probably get him accustomed to it.

My grandmother passed away this morning, unexpectedly I am really sad, although I am glad she did not suffer too long. She would not have been able to stand it if she had survived the stroke but been unable to still do all the things she loved doing. She was so active right until the end. She was such a special lady

Oh I'm sorry that is very very sad. Ones lost early in life seem a lot harder in some ways (although losing old friends is harder too in different ways).... but it does happen to all of us. Sorry for your loss
  10. I had one like this once. He was very small and had a bend in his back. We called him Waddles, and he was the one of the sweetest natured aviary birds we ever had.. but we never bred with him so I don't know if he would have passed it on. I never knew exactly what caused it but it never got any better or any worse so I just assumed it was some kind of deformity.
  11. It's a rare opportunity that I can take photos like these, so unfortunately I didn't have the chance to move things out of the background or set up my camera to take nice focussed shots But I still captured it! Here are some of my favourites: Thinking of submitting one for budgie of the month but how am I supposed to decide which one lol
  12. I'm sorry to hear that. He was a beautiful boy You did all you could.
  13. Oh I'm so glad to hear you could get him to the vet after all. At least you know that you've done all you can, and I hope they can get him back to full strength
  14. I always thought he was a cobalt yellowface type 2 normal... but shannon ^ just said he is goldenface so now I'm not so sure Don't know how to distinguish between YF2 and goldenface
  15. Ooh exciting - I am looking forward to seeing the pics of them as they grow up I'm guessing they must all be green series/lutino? You didn't mention the dad having any blue
  16. Well, at the moment we're renting and I would like to get back into breeding eventually, but not unless we buy a house and are going to be stable in the one spot for a while. I'm not sure how long that will be, but Cosmo might be too old by then. I will see how things go- it is a possibility that I would breed him, but not that likely. Would be interesting though, you are right about that
  17. I love your photos- they are spectacular! Welcome to the forum. Which part of Scandinavia are you from? My family is originally from Denmark (many generations ago)
  18. Good luck! Some people have quite an attitude towards birds- like, they're so small and cheap and are a dime a dozen in the wild, therefore it's impossible that they are sick.... or their problems are insignificant. I hope you are not approaching a person with that attitude. I hope this goes really well for you and for the birds
  19. Really? Everyone said YF2 when I first tried to work out what he was. How can you tell which one is which?
  20. Oh I'm so sorry what sad news, they were such beautiful birds - Len is such a stunner I hope he can get through the night and see a vet and live on to give you many lovely chicks
  21. Thanks guys, I think he looks nice too :grouphug: I'm guessing he's about 9 months old. He still doesn't have totally white iris rings, and is still finishing off his first moult. We got him at the end of September, so I'm just guessing he hatched some time during July (maybe early July). What do you think?
  22. Why? I'm just wondering. In the wild obviously they would only be wet on wet days, so I'm not sure why it would be so bad? Also they seem to oil their feathers more in wet weather so they would be well prepared for their baths. I just let Cosmo have a paddle in the sink because it started pouring with rain and he was trying to get to the window and was already fluffing himself up desperate for a bath :grouphug: But he dried really quickly and it was hot today despite the rain.. I don't think I'd let him paddle in winter. Also--- some of these pictures are fantastic and you should really pick one for budgie of the month! (Or, submit them over the next several months lol)
  23. Just thought those of you who are interested might like to see what Cosmo is like now towards the end of his first moult. We got him at the end of September, 2008, and he looked like this: Not long after, he started to brighten up and look like this: Then in January he hit puberty, and started to look more like this: And NOW.... *drumroll* today on the 5th of April, 2009 (just over 6 months since we first got him).... He looks like this! He has turned quite green: lol probably not that exciting to those of you with hundreds of budgies but I still think it's pretty special  :grouphug:
  24. Cosmo goes bananas (sorry bad pun!) when we're eating bananas and he really wants some. Are they okay? What about grapes? He basically seems interested in whatever we're eating these days though :grouphug: which is funny because we're not in the habit of actually letting him eat our food or anything, so I don't know how he knows that we're "eating" if you get what I mean. Funny clever little guy. My mum lives on an acre with lots of bushland and we usually get our branches off her for his cage, native trees and stuff... but over easter she is going to be trimming her hedge of lilly pillies. Would they be okay to put in Cosmo's cage? I don't know the genus, but I'm just guessing that they're syzigium. I know eugenia was on the safe list. Thanks
  25. Great idea.... :grouphug: In that case, I will first wait until we get permission from the real estate, and then get the bigger cage and put Cosmo in that before getting the new one
