Worried About Feeding Times
Wow, I really can't believe they are selling babies so young in a pet shop that is shocking. You have done the right thing by questioning the advice you were given and coming on here to make sure you are doing the right things. It is great that you are taking everyone's advice very seriously and seem to care very much for your dear little baby bird. I really hope your baby survives. When we had to handraise some babies that were attacked by their parents, when they were around that age it was really quite 50/50 as to whether they would survive. There are so many things that can go wrong, even if you have the right nutrients. Please do heaps and heaps of research. This forum is a good place to start. I wish you all the very best.

"the Modern Bird"
Yeah I was told that the way we play Chopin today would have horrified Chopin himself

Funny Picture
Cosmo wasn't hand tamed.. he wasn't even tame at all when I got him. So there is hope for any budgie just takes time, patience, and making sure they're comfortable every step of the way

He-peanut Or She-peanut?
Yep I still think he's a boy and I still think he's totally adorable. YF spangles are one of my favourite varieties, and that is one of my favourite ages of budgies, so I'm a big admirer of Peanut

He-peanut Or She-peanut?
Really? I always pronounced it "seer" but then again I think I've only ever seen it written and wasn't taught the word by someone saying it to me in person if that makes sense

He-peanut Or She-peanut?
I say boy, and a beautiful one at that

Here's My Peanut!
I dunno- I thought the top picture looked male and then the bottom one could go either way. (My rule is "when in doubt it's a hen" but I need a focussed picture to be sure this time)

Happy Day
Yay congrats! Where are the clinics you and your friend going to be visiting in Brisbane?

Funny Picture
Haha he actually asked for this bath. He was on my shoulder when I went in to wash my hands, and then suddenly he was all fluffy and running down my arm

Albino Female..
I look forward to seeing pics, she sounds very interesting and beautiful Pearce - when you say 50% would be YF... is that taking into account that the hen is also a YF albino? Just wondering

There's a video to go with it... I'm sure you can imagine exactly what the video would look like based on this picture!

New Crested Budgie Pair
Hehe.... cute names suggested so far. The blue one looks so cool... it kind of reminds me of a circle with a bite taken out of it!

2 Females Nesting In The Same Box?
This thread is so fascinating. I wonder if the same male is dad to both clutches? I wonder if you'll be able to take a guess at who the dad(s) was when you see how the chicks feather up.

Help With Some Colours Please?
The green/yellow one looks like it could be a male from the second picture, but I can't be sure without clearer pics. Now you've got one vote for each gender haha that doesn't help at all!

What Bird This This?
It has a stripy tail which is what seemed strange to me. It does have the shape of a honeyeater, I will keep an eye out for more of them

What Bird This This?
Our new house is only half an hour or so away from our old house (and only 15-20 mins away from the other places I've lived) but it is still interesting to see the difference between the birds here. I have seen a lot of spotted/peaceful doves, peewees, and plovers here. Our old place had the doves too but the only other birds it had were scrub turkeys, which we haven't seen here yet. I was just going outside to hang up my washing, and as I walked near to our outdoor setting, a small bird took off at a frantic speed. It must have been sleeping on our chair! It took me by surprise as I couldn't identify it. It looked like.... a really tiny pheasant? Or... is it a tawny frogmouth? But it's so small and not tawny. My current guess is either a baby pheasant, or a different bird I have never heard of before. Hard to tell, it is just smaller than the types I would guess it to be. Anyone know?

Charley's Big Trip
Aww what a sweet way to fall asleep... very cute that he takes his naps on the road like any passenger on a long journey probably would! Love the car too Good luck on the rest of your trip! Are you past halfway now?

My New Baby!
Wow - I'm surprised she would have given you a baby and said "not sure if it can feed itself yet". I would want to be very sure, and then wait some more- even if it has JUST learned to eat, who knows if such a big change as moving into a new home could set it back a little and sort of "forget" how to eat if it's only just starting to get skilled at it. Glad to hear that it has been eating though, and it sounds like you're doing all the right things so far. Can't wait to see a picture! I love fledglings

What Kind Of Budgie Would Go Nicely With Cosmo? (as A Friend)
Aww.... they are sweet Funny you should both say that. When I was first looking for a budgie last year, I fell in love with one that looked a lot like this: http://www.budgieplace.com/v_recessivepied4.jpg but he got sold before we got the okay back from our landlord so he was not meant to be. Maybe you're on to something with the sky blue pieds!

Emma's Birds

What Kind Of Budgie Would Go Nicely With Cosmo? (as A Friend)
As you may well know, subject to getting permission from our landlord (which is unlikely to be a problem since she let us have one- why not two?) we are planning to get a baby boy as a friend for Cosmo in a couple of months. Just thought it might be fun (for me, at least, but hopefully for you as well) to start a thread about what variety of budgie would complement the beautiful Cosmo nicely. Obviously it will depend on what budgies are available and the right age and gender and nice temperament and everything else too, but I may still take this into consideration so get your thinking hats on What I have in mind is a colour/variety of budgie that looks completely different from Cosmo, but will still "go nicely". Personally, if I could have many budgies, I would just want as wide a range of colours and varieties as possible, so my aim is still to do this with just two. I love so many types of budgies it is hard to think of what I'd pick just for one, if I had many to choose from. So with that in mind please remember: - Cosmo is a normal - so no normals - Cosmo is cobalt, but looks green because of his YF2 or goldenface (I think the consensus is now goldenface). I don't mind greens, or YF, or blue- as long as they don't look too similar to Cosmo. - I really love spangles and brightly vivid coloured birds, but I used to breed a lot of them, and have never had a pied or a dilute, so they are also novelties to me. (Anything goes- any of these are good for different reasons) - The only colour I am probably leaning against is greygreen or olive as I don't think it complements Cosmo. Remember this is not a pair for breeding- just for two pets. Here is my most accurate recent picture of Cosmo to jog your memory. Please make suggestions or post pictures of what YOU think his friend should be like!

Where To Get A Good Cage?
This might be a totally obvious question as I haven't tried many larger pet shops yet. Smaller ones don't have much variety. Where would you get a good cage? By a good cage I mean one that is a decent size, shape, bar width, set up for getting things in and out, sturdy, unlikely to rust, and not too expensive. Cosmo's cage was a hand-me-down and he really needs a new one now, as the paint has started to peel and it got a bit broken when we moved house (although it is temporarily fixed quite well). We want one a bit wider than his for when we get a second budgie, but the only bigger cages I have seen are taller but no wider. Which is okay but not ideal. I have seen lots of cages in discount shops but they don't look too good. Should I just try more pet shops do you think? or I could just take my mum's empty patio aviary that she is keeping for us and slowly fill it with more
