heres the low down, i am fortunate enough to have some of my birds colony breeding in a seperate aviary away from all the rest of the gang. My question is if i started with two pairs with four breeding boxes in the aviary, is it okay to remove the two boxes that the pairs are not using? Will it make them upset and leave the nests that they are in or not? Thanks
  2. Hey all just an update on my sick bird unfortunately she lost her battle and quietly passed away during the night. I did everything i could to make it better for her but she took a real turn for the worst. At least i know she isn't in any pain. Thanks for all your advice and the article that you posted Kaz by Liv it gave a few different ideas but as i had never dealt with anything like it before it was hard for me to tell. Thanks again guys
  3. I have already isolated her from the rest and as we speak am treating her for worms. I'll let you all know how it comes along
  4. Yet to see a vet i thought that i would try and avoid it if possible. Thanks for your input guys

  7. hey all i have a hen that is somewhere between 2 and 3 years old whose feathers have not been in great condition for some time now. I have tried seperating her from the others, changing her diet, keeping her in a quite place and treated her for mites. Her feathers look like they are wet and frizzy but it does not apply to all her feathers just some on the outside. Any ideas on what it could be?

  11. They will carry on even without having females in the aviary. I have two males in the bottom of my aviary and all year round you can hear them looking for the loves of their life.
  12. maybe mum and dad had a bad day at the office who knows. the parents will settle down give them some time hope it all works out
  13. update on my troublesome hen. I tried the smoke packet and she thought it would make nice for some extra padding. So i remove it and move the cage and for some reason she moved to the proper end of the box. Obviously it had to do with the amount of light entering the box. Might have a bird that is affraid of the dark hehe. all is good now and starting to settle down for babies (i hope, fingers crossed)
  14. yeah it does have the concave my boxes are the standard you get from the pet store. Landscape style i would call them. Will try the smoke packet trick and let you know how it goes
  15. hey all quick question what would you do if your hen bird decided that it was better for her to lay at the end of the nestbox with the entrance hole? I had this happen many years ago and the bubs ended up with splayed legs as she jumped on top of them every time she re-entered the nestbox. Any thoughts Thanks
