Another Newbie
It seems to be a habit of mine. Probably related to being a vet tech, I have personally seen so many hard luck cases... My snake (rosy boa) did come from a breeder, but all 3 of the cats were strays - one had clearly had a home, but the phone number on her collar was disconnected and nobody ever claimed her even though I posted her everywhere, another was just a stray intact female with a litter of tiny babies, the third was a stray kitten on my apartment complex, got him at about 5 months old. The bearded dragon was taken from a hoarder and placed with someone in a herptile group near me who didn't have the time she needed - she was scared to death of everything. Now she plays with the foster kittens through the glass of her tank. Yeah, I foster cats too, through a local no-kill shelter. When I decided it was finally time to get my bird, I didn't even think of going to a pet store, just started looking around Craigslist and such for one that needed rehoming. I don't know birds well enough to take a behavioral case (as with the beardie) or a sick one, but one just randomly homeless is right up my alley. Anyway, he's got his first (with me) vet appointment next Friday, so maybe they'll have some idea of how old he might be. Though I'm not holding my breath on that one. It's enough for me that they confirm that he's a boy, and healthy. Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity... Anything by Joss, man! He's got a new series coming out, I can't WAIT. I did notice that he's recycling actors again - Faith and Fred offhand, and I know I saw a few others in the ads. ;)FWIW, I was perusing the picture forum, and my baby looks just like Vickyh's George.

What Music Do Your Budgie/s Like?
Mine hasn't heard much yet, but I had some Sarah McLachlan on tonight, and whenever it stopped playing, he'd start his "unhappy" chirp - same one he uses when I go out of his sight. So I guess that was a hit!

Oooh, you're a fan of budgies /and/ David Boreanaz! I think we're best friends already.

Thought I'd come say hi - new here and new to owning a budgie. Got him from someone on craigslist, poor thing flew into his workshop out of nowhere. Nobody has been able to find his owner, and they didn't have the setup for a small bird, so when I posted looking for one... He clearly was somebody's pet, he's quite friendly. Gets a little insecure when I walk out of the room. Not wild about being held - he'll sit on my shoulder for a few minutes, then try to fly back to his perch. Trouble is, the guy who found him clipped his wings, and he hasn't figured that one out yet. We obviously have no idea how old or anything... I'm assuming it's a "he", since his cere is blue - did some research online. He does have the white cap on his head and the lighter ring on his irises, so he's old enough for his cere to have turned brown if he were a she. I'll post some pics once I get batteries in my camera, but he is a cutie! Sky-blue body with grey and white wings and a long tail shading into a deep indigo blue. Fairly typical coloring, I suppose, but I still think he's gorgeous. Now I need to find him a name! I'm not particularly creative about names... And NO, I will NOT name him anything to do with smurfs! Aww, he apparently decided I've been at the computer long enough and tried to fly over here. He may not want to be held for too long, but he is really friendly.
