  2. Thanks for all the info guys! really handy stuff. i will definately rest her and i think she may be a 2001 then as i only got her at the start of this year from a pet shop (sorry... dont no if that is frowned upon on here) and she was much larger than my boy who i bought as a baby in the middle of last year and i asked what they thought her age would be and they said maybe 3 years old. so i will check her when i get home tomorrow.

Thankyou! i always thought he was a girl until he was putting food into my girls mouth!
  4. Thanks for your help! I have put the breeding box in a single cage and will put the two in there by thierself in a couple of days. She has a dark green band around her leg? Does this indicate the year she was born? Anybody know what year this represents
  5. Only have one box in there. Not sure how old the hens are would be a few years at the very minimum as i purchased them off an older lady. The main female who has laid the eggs is about 3 years old i think.

I'm pretty sure its a girl, I am new to all this but someone will correct me if I am wrong. The Cere seems to be tanned in colour whereas it will be bluish in a boy. When the boys are young they can have a light purple tinge. She is very pretty! As I was told when I first joined natural wood perches are better on their feet. Cheers, Trish. Thanks! First i did think that she/he was a girl but then I saw her/him interacting with my female who had laid eggs and it was regurtitating food into her mouth so i wasn't sure! Yeah they all live in an aviary with wooden purchaes form the tree! just in this cage overnight when the aviary was being transported to my house.

feeling slightly confused for some reason? Is this budgie a boy? sorry if the picture isnt clear enough
  8. Hey all i'm hoping somnebody is able to give me some answers. I have had my budgie lay two lots of eggs now and both times i have found the eggs outside the breeding box on the floor of the aviary right when they are nearly ready to hatch. The first lot that my budgie laid there were about 4 eggs, however she was never really sitting on them only occasionally. I did keep checking on them and the day that the first one would have hatched i found all the eggs on the floor of the aviary smashed, and some had been smashed inside the breeding box. They were all yellow yolk thought so obviously had not formed. Now this second lot of eggs there were only 3 eggs. She had been sitting on them constantly barely leaving the breeding box. I have been checking that they are there still everyday in case it happened again and they were soon due to hnacth and i go to check on them this morning and had a feeling something bad had happened. first i notioce that she isnt in her box and then i can see shell on the floor. i go into the aviary and check and no eggs in the box at all. they were on the floor and in the broken eggs were formed budgies, unfortunately dead, curled up in the egg shell. Has this happened to anybody else? Its so upsetting!! I Have 5 budgies in my aviary my main girl who has had the eggs and another 2 girls and 2 boys. Is it possible the other male has killed these eggs?? i dont no how they could have pushed them up and out of the box. should i seperate the birds next time my female lays eggs?? Why would they wait until they were ready to hatch before doing this?? sorry if this doesn't make any sense!

Hey everyone! I'm a new member and thought i would post pics of my budgies, and was hoping somebody would be able to tell me the gender and type of budgie and approximate age. I just purchased an aviary which included 4 budgies, so i don't really know anything about my new ones. I already have 2 budgies a male and a female which i have had for about a year. At The Moment the new birds are in the one cage and my 2 are in another cage..for the quarantine thing i have read about.. is it 6 months until i am able to put my old birds in the aviary? I get the aviary tomorrow so the 4 new birds will be going in there. I also want to get a couple of quails, am thinking king quails... do they need to be quarantined as well? Any other help/ advice would be great! Thanks These are my 2 budgies The blue male is called Bird and the green female is called Nim. If these aren't the correct gender please tell me because that is what i was told they are when i got them! The new budgies Budgie 1 Budgie 2 Budgie 3.. I think there is something wrong with this budgies leg. it is missing a nail off each foot and notice how it sits in the picture, different to the other budgies. The lady who i got them from mentioned something about it bad leg, or something along those lines but now i can't remember what she said. Budgie 4
