So, soon after we left for holiday, she laid her last egg and stopped. Now we need to feed her up, she looks like she lost lots of weight and she is not as strong as before (while biting I mean ) Thank everyone for help, hopefully she'll survive it.

We've got two more eggs, the last one only couple of hours ago, there was quite a lot of blood on it, even though those eggs are getting smaller I'd say. The first one was probably nearly twice as big as this last one. I removed newspaper on the bottom of the cage so it would be uncomfortable for her to sit there on those eggs, she doesn't mind so far but maybe it will help a bit. I will change the layout of the cage once again tomorrow morning and then I will see her again in 8 days, not much I can do I guess :/

Well, she laid one more egg, so it is 4 in total, in the cage she's got 2 now. Only today she started to be interested in them and is warming them up, silly girl She is still puffed up, so I guess there is another one coming We've moved around all toys and perch and made the food to be little less available, so we will see... We are also going on holiday and she will have my sister around once a day or two, so maybe such change will help as well :/

Thanks for the ideas guys To all of those changes, I am thinking about trimming her wings once again, she had them trimmed when I bought her but I didn't do it since, think it's a good idea? And one more thing, do you guys think I should leave the eggs in the cage or just chuck them in the bin whenever she lays some? She is quite aggressive, wouldn't jump on a finger without biting it with all her might, but that was even before she started this egg laying...even though this seems to be up a level with its ferocity :/

Yeah I do, I put her to sleep at around 7 pm and she wakes up usually at 10 am, so she has plenty of sleep I guess. Only couple of days ago I bought her bell made of who knows what which should be better replacement for the classic sepia bone (which she usually ignored, only bit it sometimes), I'll try to get that supplement, thanks for advice :laughter:

I wouldn't want to introduce her to another budgie due to the illnesses she had/has :/

I wouldn't have a clue why it started now, nothing has changed for quite a long time in her cage. We removed mirror when she was still a baby, now after she laid her first egg we removed her toys in case she was too attached to them and replaced them with some different ones, nothing where she can see herself in though

My budgie is over a year old and now she started laying eggs, without male contact. I found here the article about egg binding and would like to ask, what should I do to prevent her from laying more eggs without visiting the doctor? It is quite excessive, it's been 4 eggs in little bit over a week and she is extremely tired now. I do not think it's a diet problem, she's been eating normal bird seeds plus plenty of salad, cucumber etc. She's been sick for the past half a year, she's had every disease bird can have (doctor said) and when she still looked ill, we stopped visiting the doctor as she's been quite distress by every trip over there and is until now different in behavior towards us, despite many attempts and bribery and other taming techniques. That's why we don't want to take her there again. From the article, it seems only possible way would be administering hormones, am I able to get them myself or is it only through vet? Thanks for any replies guys.
  9. Thanks everyone... She didn't die yet, but we've been to the vet twice already and in the end of every treatment she just got worse and at the second visit, doctor said she might have already bad organs from the sickness. Now week after the end of baytril treatment she throws up all day long for two days and we don't want to keep her alive at any cost, we think it's time to let her go... :'o(
  10. Does anyone knows about any Pet cemetery in or around Sydney? I don't mean anything fancy, just a place where you can dig up small hole and make a small grave on your own.... I just cannot find anything Thanks for the answers

Well, after you guys recommended us to take our Cookie to the Vet, we've finally been there just few hours ago. We'we been at www.birdvet.com.au short bit past Redfern station (in Sydney), as it is the closest one we've found. Luckily my sisters gave us a ride, so we didn't have to stress Cookie by taking him onto train etc... We came a little early, but the doctor took us in before the original appointment time. She explained pretty much everything, we understood that even though we are foreigners and our English is everything but perfect She recognize that bit near her eye (http://bobr.czweb.org/cookie.jpg) straight away as mites so he has been treated for that with ugly long injection straight to her tummy through her mouth and it looked pretty awful. Then she's taken her saliva and poo and left to do some tests on it. Before that, we've also told her she's been sneezing quite a lot lately. And that's what came up in that test, that she's got canker (trichomoniasis) as well. So there was another injection into her tummy, she's explained more about it and given us water treatment for her for the next week. We made an appointment for another mites treatment in two weeks and left. We really liked the doctor, she was straightforward, said that there is a chance Cookie might choke due to that canker (as there is mucus coming into her mouth) but that it is unlikely. We really appreciated that she was honest. Only thing we were bit surprised was the bill, which ended up at 180, but I guess that's normal here in Australia, isn't it? It was for the consultation, tests, medicines plus one taken home.
  12. So the vet said it was mites. Luckily we let her do the test of the poo and she found out she has got canker (Trichomoniasis) as well, so Cookie has been treated for that She said that she must've had it since she was little baby and it came up just now..... I'll post more in the "Trip to the vet" section Thanks for help everyone
  13. Hello everyone, my girlfriend and I are bit worried about our budgie, there is some protuberance near her eye which started out as a really small bit. Initially, we thought it is just a feather growing out, but it is getting bigger and bigger and it´s actually nearly in the eye itself, so we are getting little bit worried. Do you think that could be a problem? Here is a photo of it: cookie The best photo we could do, she doesn´t like being held in a palm Thanks for the answers
  14. Liv: We are thinking we will let his wings grow back completely, not clipping them again. The reason why those first...how to call it, maybe strips?... are there is, when the lady who sold me him clipped his wings, she said this is the way to do it, leave those first two or three strips be and cut just the rest, so I take it that is not true then? Yeah..thinking about it, she also told me that it is boy... melbournebudgies: Trying all the time, if I try to bribe him with something in my hand, he just runs away as if he thought it is poisoned or so :hap: Nor does he touch anything else then seeds, but we will just keep trying. Sunnie: I`ve just tried that, he was flying around a room a bit and then stoped in the middle of the room and is sleeping.. We will do it from now on, thanks :hap: As well as thanks to everyone else for advices :hap:

They cliped his wings when we bought him and in the beginning when he was freaking out in his cage he somehow lost the remaining feathers from his right wing. But he is alright with flying
  16. melbournebudgies: Yeah, that`s another problem, he doesn`t want to eat anything else than seeds and honey stick. He never takes anything out of our hands (except for proso, but he usually just peck it once and runs away), even when we put in separate bowl some fruit or veggies for him (we tried big variety), he doesn`t touch it  Liv: No, actually I am sitting 2 metres from his cage majority of the day as I am working on computer at home at the moment, I usually let him out and he sits on the top of his cage, ocassionally flies to the end of the room and back. Just every now and then I pet him little bit. As I was reading this forum through, I saw budgies should be covered with the cloth for 10-12 hours and we didn`t know that, never done that before, now we tried overnight and he was furious and kept hovering on bottom of the cage where the cloth didn`t reach, peeking out :rip: . We need to buy a bigger one... I have posted picture in picture topic by the way )

So this is our Cookie, who`s being naughty at the moment :rip:
  18. Hello and sorry I didn`t introduce myself in the proper section before, I just do not have much of a free time. My girlfriend and I bought a budgie, actually I did as a present for her. He (actually we found out it is more likely she after we did some research, but we keep talking about her as if she is a boy) was actually the most calm one they had on that market, didn`t even bite the shop assistant and he has been calm all the way home. Everything is still quite fine, about a week ago we took his mirror away as it seemed he is getting fixated on it and we think his behaviour towards us had improved since then, but still not very much. He is used that if he wants to go out of his cage, he needs to step on our finger or hand before we take him out, and the same on the way back in (only if we need to put him in for some reason (eg cooking), we don`t prevent him going back in if he wants to of course), but you can see on him that he does that only because he knows he will get out (which he wants). Sometimes it is easy to reach out and pet him, but sometimes he does peck us or is running away. Even sometimes when we put our hand in his cage, he starts to climb all around the "ceiling" of the cage and is obviously scared. Is it still too soon to expect he would like us bit more than on the start? Thanks for any reply. By the way, sorry for my English )
