Today I watched my babie Budgies, that are now 6 weeks old feed each other. They took turns feeding after one was fed 15 mins later the one that was fed was feeding the one that was doing the feeding is this a normal thing for babies to do ?

Do you think dad will be fine with moving the box and keep up feeding?

Me again! The reason im posting the picture is because today, I have had one of the babies jump out of the box, the nesting box it's up high in the cage and he had no chance of getting himself back in the box. There is two more following close behind ! I'm wondering if its a good idear to place them in a shoe box on the bottom of the cage so they can explore the cage. If they feel like it.But if i was to do that! will dad keep up the job feeding? The youngest one of the four still really needs to be fed by dad. And I wont be able to keep a eye on them I will be away from home 10 to 12 hours a day over the next few days. What should I do?

I have been putting a thick layer of Millet spray in the box and cleaning it every second day. They all seem to enjoy having a peck at it and its seems to working for there poopy feet keeping them much cleaner.

The poop is a problem I have done the warm water thing with them but they put up a terrible fight. After I cleaned them a few days back I put them back in the cage. Dad was so stressed he jumped into the nesting box and didnt come out for a hour, after that anytime out went near the cage he jumped in the box as if to say leave my kids alone he did that all day long.

I tried to get some better pictures today when I cleaned the nesting box. The pictures of the 2 oldest chicks didnt turn out. I think im going to keep the yellow one he or she seems to be the friendliest one out of the four. Its the first time he has sat still for me! He is very flighty!

Really unsure what to do. Today my female Budgie escaped and left me with four babies that are around 3 and a half weeks to four weeks old. I went out and got some baby food for them but when I got home I watched the male budgie feeding the little ones. Should I take them out of the cage and hand feed them ? I'm so confused on what to do and I can clearly see that the male is really stressed out now that his best mate is gone. Please all the advice you can give would really be appreciated. I will post some pics soon as i can of my little ones. Shoud i just take the babies out and give them a top up feed ? If I do that will the male lose interest and stop feeding them ? Also now that its getting pretty cold will they generate enough body heat if I leave them in the cage ? Maybe I can bring them in over night and put them back in in the morning ? but my male is stressed enough dont want to stress him out anymore. I would like to go get him a new little mate tomorrow morning thank you all must go im just rambling on

Hi thanks for the reply for first time parents both are doing a exceptional job all the babies look very healthy and always seem to be full even the smallest baby that died yesterday its crops was full the only reason i can think why it may have died is that it was so much smaller then the other four that that it just couldnt cope with the constant trampling cheers Moderator’s Message changed thanks to thanks. no shortcuts - use only approved shortcuts found in guidelines.
