  1. I'm always surprised, especially in the last picture, the amount of emotion birds can pull of! They're just so expressive! I really love the little girls' colours, oh how sweet they are together.
  2. Wow that's an extremely scary disease. I feel bad for not quarantining my second budgie, so I'll try to keep a good eye on them to make sure nothing's wrong with them. As for the HIV thing, they have found people immune to it in Africa. The virus connects to a certain receptor of the cells, and in those people it's missing (making the virus unable to connect and reproduce).
  3. I'm wondering if there's harnesses small enough for budgies on the topic. I've never seen one on a budgie XD As for your birds, yeah it must seem nice, but I remember back in my old house cats used to come into our gardens. I'm not sure how it is are your place, but since cats are frequently let out without harnesses / bells on their collars I've seen alot of my wild birds I used to feed dead. I'd be worried about that personally.

It's also because the one can't fly as high as the other (Optimus is much older than atlas), so they have to stay somewhat low so I can pick up atlas and put him beside him. He'll run and run away from me as much as he can, but the minute he can't get to Optimus he comes crying to me :budgiedance:

I haven't hurt my budgies at all this way, but I know that they like to perch under my computer desk (it's made of glass and lots of metal tubes etc, so it's a bit of a funplace for them). I always ALWAYS check to see where my birds are before I move my chair at all. I just realized how important it was when today my boyfriend moved the chair and nearly hit one of them So be careful with your chairs!

So cute! I always laugh when I see the crests on the budgies, it makes them look so angry. >:\

Somewhat. I was reading a book my friend lent me, Atlas shrugged, and the colours reminded me of water/air/etc, like the titan. So I named him that. I'm out here in Oakville. It's a nice little town. Loved the transformers too Boy wanted to rename atlas to Megatron, since they're always squawking at each other.
  8. also! Keep an eye on them for the next while after you pull it. When I had to pull my boy budgie's feather it turned out it had not completely clotted, so he was still bleeding slowly without my knowledge until the other one screamed at me again.
  9. Poor baby. That's such a weird thing going on. At least he isn't a picky eater from the sounds of it.

Alright thanks for clearing that up for me. I did go to an emergancy avian vet though, so I guess I did at least one thing right Awesome, I will see if i can visit those too. My penpal defnately wants to take me to GoldCoast, so I'm sure I'll get to see some nice beaches.

Oh wow the colour of him is splendid, especially how nicely his cere compliments his feathers! What a sweetheart

I'm heading to north sydney, then up to brisbane, and hopefully ifI can make enough money there at my summer job I can switch over to Texas, Holland and the Phillipines/Malaysia to visit more penpals. My penpal over there is letting me stay with her in exchange for cooking and cleaning. Thank you very much. I'm hoping to try to get into the industry or change over to animation (like the old Warner bro's bugs bunny cartoons). The budgies are also very sweet to each other; right now Atlas is acting like a 16 year old girl swooning for Optimus' attention.

I'm outside of toronto right now going to art school. I'm quitting though this year because I don't think this is kinda the stuff I wanna learn. Where might you be? Also, thanks for all the info. When I got atlas the first time round, the woman wouldn't even let me pick one out until I had gone out and come back with a suitable cage (she herself actually owned a flock of birds!). So I guess I put too much trust into the employees when really only one of them was suitably qualified.

Oh damn! The woman at the petstore said that if I had bought one at that place in the last month I wouldn'tneed to quarantine them, since all the budgies are in seperate areas (for instance, both are "rare" budgies, so they're the same). I guess she fed me the "Well the vets have checked them!" line. I'll remember that for next time, thank you so much. I don't have to quarantine them if I bought them both at the same time do I?

It was a lot. The vet said he didn't really lose too much, but when I went back to the petstore to tell them what happened and to see if they could cover some of it, the woman behind the counter was shocked because it looked more like I tried to kill it with my bare hands than to save it! I'm sorry that your hen passed away like that. That's the worst part of owning a pet, is when they die ;A;!

Hello all! I just found this forum today when I my new baby boy Optimus Prime (my boyfriend's keet) managed to dislodge a blood feather the petshop lady who grabbed him for me broke. Blood and chaos later, I managed to stop his bleeding thanks to the forum. The vet told me I shouldn't have even come since I had taken care of it so well, and os I dished out 160$ for a 30$ bird! Ouch! Here's Optimus Prime and Atlas; Optimus is the coloured one, and Atlas is the white and blue one. Both are different ages by a few months, but Optimus looked so sad (as he's getting to be older) at the petstore. He may be around less keets now, but at least the cage is bigger. I'm going to Australia for a year, and my boyfriend will be taking care of them, so other than feeding them and making sure they're healthy it'll be up to me to send money for new toys, and taking them to the vet to get their nails trimmed and checkups. I know it's not the best life, but I hope the two of them together instead of being alone helps (we got optimus after I started planning a few days ago to make sure he wouldn't be lonely). If I move I'll see if I can take them with me, if not, I'll find them a good home. http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/gg255/p...nt=Image032.jpg http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/gg255/p...nt=Image030.jpg http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/gg255/p...nt=Image031.jpg Optimus is a real beauty though, when he spreads his wings/tails at the edges it's yellow with black, and the middle is blue/teal.

Thanks, I'm uploading some pictures of my babies to show off in the new member post. This is just a little of the blood that I found. There's splatters all over the wall, my bedsheets, my 3 pillows (one brand new!), and the floor. not to mention that I looked like Carrie out of the Stephen King movie! He's eating, and is letting Atlas preen him. Life is good! http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg255/p...us/Image027.jpg Administrator’s Message Please resize your image to 450x450 via photobucket - Thankyou.

I just wanted to say thank you so much! My new pet budgie, Optimus Prime (my boyfriend's) is living right now with my budgie, Atlas. We brought him home 2 days ago from a nice petstore, and since they both came from the same batch the woman told us not to worry about infections (since apparently they get looked after a vet as well). Well, the woman who put him in the care box broke one of his blood feathers, and today he began bleeding, so I quickly searched and found this forum, and how to stop it. I had to hold him down and pull it out because it was so damaged (I felt so bad!) but I managed to stop the bleeding with flour before it became too bad. It really scared me because he tried to fly out of hte cage and sprayed me down with a liberal amount of blood. The vet said that there was no more bleeding, so I didn't actually have to take him to him. I cried again though when I paid 160$ for the emergancy trip for a 30$ bird, but I'd rather spend that then accidently kill him. Optimus Prime is doing fantastic now, and hasn't even picked at his wing at all. I just wanted to post and say thanks to everyone who helped make these topics so people like me know what to do. As for my advice; It's your budgie's life on the line! If I had to hold him down and do it again I would rather than watch him bleed. It's better to cry and do it than to wait too long and risk him getting even more hurt. Thanks!
