Budgies Bonding With Children
Great photos! All my kids love the birds, even the 21mth old (under a very watchful eye). My 3 yr old and 9 yr old pick up the birds whenever they feel like. They want to get the budgie out of the cage too, but she's not tame enough for that, and they are forever at me to get her out. I think it's a great experience for the kids to get up close and personal with the feathered friends in the house. Your daughter certainly looks as though she loves the attention of the budgies.

Budgie Handling
I use hold 1 the majority of the time. I have had quite a few bites though, might have to give hold 2 a try when Lucky is feeling particularly bitey! Thankyou for the information.

Budgie Owners - Who Are You?
Name: Donna Pets: 1 Cockatiel, 1 Indian Ringneck, 1 Lucky Budgie & too many fish to count! Favorite Color: Green Astrological Sign: Taurus (I definately have that stubborn streak) Age: 31 (closer to 32) Weakness: How long have you got? I take on way too many things, and then don't get around to finishing what I started. I'm hopeless at saying NO. Strength: Coping with looking after 3 kids, a hubby, 3 birds & a fish tank plus running my own business. Loyalty to my friends and family. Doing my best to get ahead in the big wide world & doing a pretty good job of it! Favorite T.V. Show: Don't really have a favourite, but I love documentaries! Favorite Animal: Birds! Live: North of Brisbane, Australia How long have been a BBC member: Just about 3 weeks now! Anything else: I started a transport business 4 years ago with one semi-crane truck (which hubby drove). We now have a second semi-crane truck and a Western Star. Hubby is about to get out of driving and start doing "Escort/Pilot" vehicle work. Which means he will have more time to annoy me! As a family we love going camping & go away whenever the chance rises. I don't think there is too much more to tell. Now wake up!!!! and get back to it.

Lucky is still with me! No owners in sight. I must admit, I haven't tried too hard to find them either for the past 5 days or so! :rip: She is doing very well, even had a nibble at some vegies for me. Now that she is more lively, she is a lot more bitey. Will keep you updated with her progress. After nosing around here, and at the breeding section & looking at all the photos of the gorgeous babies, I want an aviary! I wonder if my hubby will oblige with building one? We already have a chook house to be built & a vege garden, what's one more thing to build?

I am very happy to keep her, if I can't find her owners. :hap: I just wanted to do the right thing, in trying my best to reunite her with her family. She seems to be settling in more and more each day. Definately a lot more active than when we first caught her. I'll keep doing my best to look after her. She is one lucky bird indeed! If we don't find her family, her name may well become Lucky! It doesn't seem right just calling her "The Budgie".

Yes, she is eating well, chirping and hopping around her cage! She has used the swing & loves herself in the mirror. She hasn't taken much interest in the other birds, but they are nowhere near each other. She would be able to hear them, but doesn't whistle to them as yet. I got a phone number from the vet today. I rang as soon as I got home. I was excited to think I may have found her owners, but unfortunately, those people lost a male :hap: nothing at the local petshops either. I'm running out of options to find her family. I have left details at the petshops and vet .... just in case.

I know there is an Avian vet at Chermside but that is well over half an hour from here. The vet up the road, does do birds, so I will be ringing them later today. The budgie is doing very well and seems to be coping with her ordeal.

Yes, I am looking for her owners. I have posted an item in Lost and Found on Brisbane gumtree & have checked the local shops & the newspaper that arrived today. Nothing to go on yet. I will give the shelters a call & local vets early next week. Will keep you updated! http://brisbane.gumtree.com.au/brisbane/lo...erty_613_1.html

I have kept her away from the other 2, and I have made sure I washed my hands after handling her, so I don't spread anything to my other feathered friends. Will keep her as warm and comfy as I can. cheers!

Have checked her bum and her droppings & all seems fine. They aren't runny or anything & she is chirpy. She has certainly given her feed a good working out (seeds only). Hasn't touched any veges, but I will keep offering them to her & see how she goes. Thanks so much for your advice & help with her! It's much appreciated.

I can feel her breastbone & I don't think there is much "meat" either side. She wasn't that happy about me touching her like that. She is quite small, not as large as some budgies I used to have. Hence the reason I thought she may have been younger.

There is no band on the bird so not able to identify it that way.I have owned budgies before, even bred a few, so I am pretty sure it is only young (still has a few stripes on its head) and possibly female? Will take a picture & post for you shortly.ThanksHere's the pics, sorry about the quality, I took them on my phone. I did reduce the sizing & rotate them on photobucket, but they seem to be sideways & huge! :yellowhead:

HI All, Obviously I am a new member! I actually own a cockatiel & an Indian ringneck. Yesterday I caught a budgie that landed on my car while I was standing out the front! Luckily for the little bird I have spare cages, as I just upgraded my cockatiels cage.
