  1. its fine to touch it... you won't hurt it...
  2. looked like black but I couldn't tell...
  3. he's a real cutie. I love them all at that age...
  4. good question, I am interested to see the answer...
  5. okay... just a query... if I have a creamino and I pair it with a gene like lacewing or tcb would I get birds that are similar to the creamino's colouring? or wouldn't it show the yf gene?
  6. Had a look and the best I can come up with is this... If he is split to ino you will get: 25% Clearbody/Ino cocks 25% Ino cocks 25%Clearbody hens 25% Ino hens but I'm not sure what you will get if he isn't... genetics really isn't my thing
  7. congratulations I hope everything goes well for you.. do you know if the cock is split for ino? or what the ino is masking? I can't remember the pairing outcomes for a TCB x ino pairing... I know it is some TCB's but I can't remember what percentage...
  8. How did you become aware that the ino was blind? Did he keep flying into things?
  9. From what I can tell in showing colour isn't the biggest priority... what's more important is the quality of the bird in respects to its mutation... If I was planning on getting into show budgies I wouldn't breed with pet types... I would buy 3 cocks and 3 hens of good standard and then pair them up... When purchasing I would take into consideration what I wanted to show... recessive pieds, spangles, TCB's... whatever you prefer that should be taken into consideration when purchasing. If you talk to show breeders near you they will be able to help you out as you look at their culls. You will want to know as much about the genetics of the birds that you purchase as possible... Good luck and let us know how everything goes
  10. Why thank you
  11. yes you can and the normal budgie nest box type is all that is required... Show type and pet type are exactly the same animal, just different size... their babies will be in between pet and show type birds... if you're a show breeder then I wouldn't recommend it as you will lose to much size... Are you looking at getting into show breeding? Or do you want to introduce a new type to your show birds?
  12. Glad to hear everything is going well As for if a budgie can tell the sex of another species of bird, I would not know... possibly though because there are some birds that have cross bred.. hmmm who knows..
  13. yep... you being conservative your flock would start with 3 pairs... we'll say they have 4 chicks each... thats 12... Next generation... if they are split 50% hens 50% cocks... 6 pairs x 4 ... thats 24... (12 pairs) Next generation... 12 x 4 - thats 48... so at that stage you have 90 birds... and thats not including if you breed wih the birds from the previous year as well...
  14. no argueing here just a good laugh
  15. what would you expect from that pairing (Spangle x TCB) RIP?
  16. Sorry mate don't use birdtracker... I use the budgerigar program... Hopefully someone will be able to help you soon
  17. I don't think there would be a health issue but even so thats saying you wouldn't buy any birds for at least another 4 years... if you introduced a couple of birds in that time it would help...
  18. very handy to know thanks
  19. Great Pictures AV!!! Love the mob! I can just see them scheming..
  20. Is it safe to used betadine on your birds? Isn't there a risk that they will try cleaning themselves and injest it?
  21. The important thing is to keep good records... Its very hard to remember 2 years down the track which birds are related... Keep good records and you shouldn't have a problem... with 3 pais there won't be cuisins until the second year breeding unless you get all your birds from the same breeder, which I wouldn't recommend doing... If you keep clear records there wouldn't be a problem with cousins....but I agree with Liv I wouldn't go closer than cousins unless I'd studied line breeding for a while...
  22. not only chicken... I've read some place that quite a few people put the remainder of the turkey carcass in with there budgies after christmas lunch, who absolutely love them... When I questioned them on it they all said it was great protein and had never had any problems from it...
  23. "Very badly marked" can sometimes be interpreted, "Very Cute bird"
  24. so what is it if it isn't a DF dom pied?
