  1. Thanks Liv, Neat and Kaz for your replies. Sorry for not being that clear in my initial post, what I meant by 19mm x 12mm square perch was that 19mm wide on the side where the birds actually perch (top side of the perch) and 12mm is the deep or thickness of the perch (that is perch sides). This is for pet type Budgies.
  2. You are Welcome Chrissy. Actually I was also looking for this during the time when I have joined here and after doing some search in google, I was able to get this link alone. Yes it is not in depth, but nice one with pictures. Also very few other articles are available on this site, which are simple and nice once. My personal understanding is that chicks will open its eyes fully during there 2nd week.
  3. Thanks Kaz , looks like same article is also available in our FAQ section. In deed I have gone through this FAQ article and got confused, so only I have posted this topic. But now I have taken more time/efforts to understand this and below is my complete understanding on this, please correct me if I am wrong. Possible Acceptable Pairing Combinations from the above link are: * Half Brother to Half Sister, * Grand Father to Grand Daughter, * Uncle to Niece, * Aunt to Nephew, and * Cousin to Cousin. So now coming back to my posted questions: This is pairing of Uncle/Aunt to Niece/Nephew, which is acceptable. This is Grand Father to Grand Daughter, which is also acceptable pairing. If my above understanding is totally correct, then really my hats off to you Kaz for making me to understand/learn this.
  4. Hope this below link helps: http://adorablebudgies.co.uk/docs/article2.php

Thanks
  6. In my old thread, members have adviced for a square perch of size 19mm x 19mm for the breeding cage. Recently checked here in my area and we have 19mm x 12mm square perches readily available and for 19mm x 19mm I need to place an order. So before placing an order I thought will check with you all, whether we can use 19mm x 12mm as an alternative or to go for 19mm x 19mm. Thanks for your time and help.
  7. Thanks MB. Piperazine product company suggesting dose rate of 40 ml for 100 birds mixed in 1 litre of drinking water...it is around 0.4ml for each budgie, is that okay. What is the concentration of Ivermectin in your dewormer? Also I heard from a general vet that if the budgies poop is green runny, then we need to immediately deworm that budgie.....is this really true.
  8. Could some one please respond. Thanks
  9. Thank you very much Kaz .

Please let me know all of your advices/suggestions . Similarly could some one, please take pictures of Ivermectin showing the name and composition. Also what is the dosage of ivermectin you guys give it to your birds every 3 months in drinking water.
  11. Thank you very much Maesie and Kaz. Actually 3 inches I assumed thinking that only 1 bird sits at a time and thanks for correcting me . Sorry to ask this very basic thing, What is shade over half inch dowel
  12. Thanks Maesie, in fact I was not sure how much we need to put for pet budgies, since I have only wild budgies and no tamed once. Also personally I feel it is always better to get complete things clear before we do. Okay my assumption is that 3 or 4 inches distance between perches should be fine and also 3 inches in length of perch each side is sufficient. Please correct me if I am wrong
  13. Thanks Neat and Neville for your responses. In the first place looks like I haven't posted my question that clear. Basically what I am trying to understand is how a complete breeding cycle looks like...say from initially selecting a pair for breeding, placing them in the breeding cage, pairing/re-pairing, adding nest boxes...etc till end of the chicks fledge and breeding pairs finally goes back to its aviary... Yes, but I am not sure whether what I am looking for can be found there.....since what I am interested in is a very basic complete outline of stages involved in breeding using both cabinet breeding and colony breeding methods. If so could you please help me with the link . I already know this nice web site, but I am not looking for some breeding tips.
  14. Not at all to feel sorry Kaz, nothing as such in urgent and whenever it is possible for you, please kindly check and let me know. Thanks
  15. Sorry for troubling you Kaz, also need to know the distance between each perches. Thanks, Karthik
  16. Thanks for the picture Kaz, I was exactly looking for similar picture few months back and till now I was under wrong impression that white colour egg is infertile and pinkish colour egg is fertile one. Kaz, when egg is layed it is white in colour and usually after how many days since this egg was layed, we can see this colour difference.
  17. Hi All, Interested to know about the complete cycle of breeding, say starting from selecting a hen and a cock from aviary to till this pair goes back to aviary after breeding 2 or 3 rounds of breeding in breeding cages/cabinets. Whether any similar thing exists with colony breeding also or how breeding pairs are given rest after 2 or 3 rounds of breeding in colony breeding method. Checked in our forum FAQ Breeding section and pinned topics, but unable to find some related article which talks about this topic. So thought to start a new thread and appreciate your responses. Thanks in advance, Karthik
  18. Thanks Kaz and when you have some free time during the day time, please let me know the perch sizes.
  19. Thanks Kaz for the link. Infact I have seen this thread before through the FAQ article and really I liked it. So only I had this also as another option.
  20. Thanks MB and Neat. Probably this weekend I am planning to personally visit vet pharmacy and if so will try to get the wormer name along with the ingredients list. That is the whole problem, here in my place so far I couldn't able to find a Avain Vet and only general vet is available. Also all the vet pharmacies have only the products related to dogs, cows and chicken. During my younger age we never used to deworm the Budgies, but as per advice from a general vet once in a while we used to mix very very small crystal of potassium permanganate into the drinking water. So next my question is, whether is it mandatory to deworm the Budgies every 3 months once. Also is there any visual signs or poop signs by which we can say that particular Budgie requires immediate deworming. Sorry for asking too many questions . Thanks
  21. Thanks Kaz for explaining this to me as always and apologies for not being that clear in my previous post, which I have posted yesterday in a hurry. Breeding cage size which I have mentioned (20" (w) x 15" (d) x 15" (h)) in my previous post was with nestbox outside and NOT with inside, looks like you have already got it correctly . I have following approximate size plywood pieces of 19mm thickness: 21.5” x 18.5” - 1 Piece 21” x 12” – 2 Piece 8.5” x 18” - 1 Piece 8” x 18” - 1 Piece 6” x 18” - 1 Piece 6” x 6’ - 1 Piece Planning to make a breeding cage or hospital cage. Thinking to make use of these 19mm thick plywood pieces for the cage sides and the bottom, top and back to use 6mm thick plywood and front side of thick wire mesh. Due to safty precautions from cat, monkeys and rats, I am still looking for a best way to attach the nest box from outside of the cage safely and if nothing work outs, then I will have to go with hospital cage or anything which is best possible to make from these. Forgot to mention a point that this breeding cage will be placed in the veranda, which is like half outdoor or indoor. Kaz if you have any other thoughts or ideas to best make use of these plywood pieces, please let me know and once this is finalized, I will have to look out for a carpenter/builder who can make this for me.
  22. Thanks Kaz. Okay if so what should be the ideal minimum distance between two perches. Also what is addling, is it same as dead in shell or some thing different. Whether breeding cage of 20 inches (long) x 15 inches (deep) x 15 inches (high) is ideal size or what should be the minimum breeding cage size. Sorry for asking too many questions Kaz, since I have few small plywood pieces and which I am planning make a breeding cage with the help of a carpenter. So just trying to collect as much info as possible to my knowledge in order to do it correctly.
  23. Thanks for all of your inputs and advices. Actually I was planning to get some liquid wormer and mix it in their drinking water. Today I tried calling few Vet pharmacies to check regarding the available wormers and looks like none of them have specific wormer for birds. All of them have is for dog puppies and they are suggesting that we can use the same for birds also. But I read on net that one pet type wormer shouldn't be used with other pet types. Heard that garlic is natural dewormer and also if I remember correctly quite some time back heard from Daz that alovera juice/liquid can be used as natural dewormer. If nothing is working out, then probably best for me is to go for any of these natural dewormers. What is all of your opinions on this.
  24. Kaz just curious to know what should be the ideal breeding cage width, if the nestbox is fitted inside the breeding cage. Also what is the logic followed behind the selection of breeding cage width, I have read here in few forum threads that the more wider the better....but interested to know how to derive to the right minimum breeding cage width size based on whether nestbox is placed outside or inside. Do we need to consider the nestbox size also? Thanks, Karthik
