The Hen Appears To Be Hurting Babies?
she is on her own now. She really was angry at me catching her. I took the babies out before I did so they were safe. Do I need to supplement them now you think? Ill wait and see if there crops are full a bit later I guess. I feel like Ive done this big thing seperating them, have a whole new element of worry. He is a good dad so im sure things will be okAlso putting babies in container. Does that mean remove the breeding box. Will they get cold at night?

The Hen Appears To Be Hurting Babies?
She is still in there and no harm done that I can see, I was not to far when it started so I got to it straight away, all the babies were against the back wall, but I see them there heaps. My set up is pitiful... (BUT - I have a huge cage and great set up sitting there ready to go when chicks fledge as I didnt want to change enviroment) the pair were given to me about 2.5 mths ago in a cage and a box was iggnorant then so got caught with babies on the way. So they are in a largeish bird cage at moment but yeh it isnt the best. I am just watching from afar at the moment. There crops arnt full when I checked but she usually feeds them around 10.30 -11 am so they are proberly due again soon. Its the little one I worry about, The other two change every day where as he is still just down with a few feathers. But he is the last egg of 5 I think so he is younger than the others, but I say to me self well in 5 days he will look how they do now but he isnt. But he gets fed ect so its all good but I would hate to think it was him screeching... (im a sucker for the under dog.) All seems well at moment.. Maybe im just panicking at nothing. Us newbies hey... (Laughing out loud)

Thanks ill keep my eye on them and see how it goes, dont think he is being to aggresive. They both seem to equally look after chicks, would the other reliase one is gone and step up to the extra work?

I Have Babies In Nest And The Male Is Trying To Mate Again
HI, Its me again... (Laughing out loud). I have a question. I just caught the male trying to mate with the hen. As some of you know I have 3 babies in the nest. She seemed really annoyed with him. Just a bit worried as I dont know what I should do if anything.... Will she want to mate agian as the box is still there? I know they need atleast a few months break so I dont want to her have any more. I dont feel she will look after them on her own, he is a good dad so I dont want to take him out but I will if I have to. Any advise... Is it normal? (typical male wants a bit) Will he try to hurt the babies so the box is empty again?

My Babies
Thank you all for the reassurance, I feel confident about the little one now and am happy to leave him where he is. He did have a little poo caked up on his bottom so I got a warm cotton ball and cleaned it. Other than that a quick cuddle and back to mum. I am keeping him so I want him tame (hence the cuddles). Ill keep posted thanks again

My Babies
here is the first baby he looks like a mix of both parents to me but Im no expert. I thought he was the oldest but on closer inspection he looks younger than teh other one feather wise. Also what I thought was blue seems to be more green now. he has green coming in under his wings. and here is baby number 3. he is camera shy.. To busy trying to eat my fingers to look at camera.

My Babies
I just checked crops to me they dont look full but its hard to tell on the older two, its amazing how they change so fast.. those feathers come in so fast. The youngest is the easiest to see. Its very soft and not inflated ive seen it bigger, ill give them a bit longer and check again. Ill take a picture just charging camera. Ill take individual ones.

My Babies
Here are the parents. And here are the babiesthats the oldest near the camera.here is another of the dad. Does any one know what he is (besides very cute) the mum has a tag on her foot but that means zilch to me. They came from my friend who got them from her neighbour. There well travelled... (Laughing out loud)Also, while I think of it im feeding them water with vitamins, seed, lettuce and fresh grass (that I grom from seed) and also egg and biscuit mix (which they wont eat from dish but will I put in on roof of box. I also started yesterday leaving some out side the door as the eldest is picking. Will get some millet spray for them today as suggested on a previous thread.

My Babies
HI, Yes it is possible it is the fifth egg but he hatched on the third day after the second one and to me that woeks out to be the fourth egg, but yes I am inexperienced and would not say with 100% assurity that it is. She laid her first egg on the 2.2.08 and the first baby hatched on the 19.2.08 which was three days earler than I expected. I will check them just after 11 to check his crop. Last night when I said hello he def had food in his crop. (dont know if it was full ) I will take a picture when I check on them and try to post it. Also as I mentioned in an earlier thread they are in a cage. I have bought a much bigger cage for them and am waiting to transfer them over but I wasnt sure when as I didnt want to alter the enviroment and maybe scare her from the nest. The oldest is about ready to come out so I would really like them in the big cage but as I said am worried she may leave the nest if I give differant enviroment and move breeding box ect. So anyway I will suss them out in a couple of hours and report back. Thanks again

My Babies
HI I have a few questions. I have my first ever babies and I am a little concerned about the youngest. The oldest is 27 days the next one is 25 days and the third is 22 days. The two older ones are about one third bigger or a bit more, id say half but it isnt quite. He or she (they all seem to have purple beaks) seems okay but crys for ffod the most and is only just developing feathers compared to the other two having a full wing on feathers back feathers ect. He seems not lethargic or anything but he does look a little bare around his neck... Where is the crop? Is it the part on there chest area? How do youknow if its full? I guess basically what Im asking is if I need to take him out and hand feed him? I got some hand rearing mix (got it from a breeder) and they suggested Itake him out but I dont know if maybe im exagerating becasue Im over zelous... He is being fed but I dont know if its enough, Can you supplement them or if I feed him is that it I have to take him from nest and raise him? Is it possible he is the fourth egg and not the third hense the differance? She had 5 eggs. He is covered in down and all but the mum soesnt seem to be in the box much at all now and I worry about him cold.. Also his siblings just walk on him and he is always trying to snuggle up to hem where as they are content just sitting there. Also if you do suggest I take him out whatif he refuses food from me... Any advise would be helpful. Thank you

Hi, Im New. Owner Of 3 Budgies - First Babies On The Way
Thanks for the warm welcome, once again. I cant figure outthe uploading of pictures on here though... Asks me for a URL ? I could only get a picture of my boy though as the female isnt leaving the nest when I am around. I have gotten a bigger cage but dont plan on putting them in it yet. I will wait til babies are out of nest.

Hi, Im New. Owner Of 3 Budgies - First Babies On The Way
HI My third budgie is on her own. The pair are in there own cage. I wasnt sure about wider or taller so tahnks for that. Getting them a new cage 100% as mentioned just not sure when to make transition. Will egt picture to you tomorrow. Have no idea of age but I am there third owner so I know they are atleast a yr old. Perhaps photos tomorrow will help with this. They had a baby about 4 mths ago I know she had only 1 baby but not sure how many eggs she laid. She had issues with other females attacking the baby which is why she chose to seperate them and give them to me . They come from a big cage and I know she took good care of them. She got them from a neighbour when he moved. She ended p looking after the baby they had but had injuries and did not survive. They seem quite settled here and enjoyng it being justthe two of them. They just need more space

Hi, Im New. Owner Of 3 Budgies - First Babies On The Way
HI I just have them in a cage that is proberly about 45 x 45 and 75ish high cms. My friend gave them to me I have no idea of their age but she got them off some one else before that. She put the box in there when I took them and I had them for about two or three wks before they laid an egg. Im really worried about the cage set up as I wasnt expecting it and there is not enough room for them all when babies come out. Im working on getting a bigger cage at moment but figure I shouldnt move them til first baby is nearly ready to leave box.. But I really dont know when is best. I will take a picture and post it on here. I dont think I will get one of my female though as she is very protective of her box and will not come out if I am near cage. The male actually seems to eb getting used to me and wont flutter off now when I approach the cage. He is very pretty, my female is your standard green budgie. He spends alot of time in box looking after her it seems. I will go through the FAQS just been browsing forums so far. Will post again with pics tomorrow as I dont have any yet Thanks for the welcome :budgiedance:

Hi, Im New. Owner Of 3 Budgies - First Babies On The Way
Hi I have owned my one budgie for about 3 yrs now and I recntly adopted another pair. My new pair have begun breeding already. Ive only had them a month and she laid her first egg on the 2.2.08. She has four eggs. I am totally new to this and really want to make sure I am doing everything I need to and what I need to do once they are born. I have been flicking through your forums for about a week so I have learnta bit but still feel totoally unprepared. So anyone with any useful advise is much appreciated. I am most excited and am really looking forward to this experience
