  3. I wrote about a month ago. Our bird laid 7 eggs on the ground of the cage. ( we thought we had two of the same sex) Then we had to seperate the male because he wanted to mate again and was beating up the female who was sitting on the eggs. At any rate only 1 egg hatched . Actually I think it was better for the first time mommy with no help from dad. Almost a month has passed and the chick is growing Fast . Can anyone tell me how I tell if it is a boy or girl. I have a picture but cannot figure out how to post it
  4. If this is on twice I am sorry . I replied and can't find where it went. Thank you for the warm welcome. We do not have a grate in the cage. The bottom of the cage has a small corn cob litter type stuff on it.The hen made a mound of in the litter and laid her eggs right in the middle and is happily sitting on them. It is nice because I can scoop the poop and not disturb the eggs. Thank you for the advice. I am sure I will have many many questions as we go along . Linda
  5. Hi Would love some advice. I was searching the web and found this forum. THANKS. We are not budgie beeders. Budgie lovers yes. At any rate we have a Budgie that we have had for about 2 years. about 6 months ago we thought we would get her a friend. Since day one they hit it off great. we put two small cages up against each other for about a week and then out them both in a new big cage. All has been great they are great friends. About two months ago they started mating. It seems to be their favorite passtime. :hap: Then the older started laying eggs, but she would break them the next day. Last week she laid a egg in the corner of the cage ( no nest box) then the next day another and then another. This time she has sat on them the most part of the last week the other bird often feeds her and has even taken a trun sitting on the eggs. My question is can the eggs survive without a nest box? Should I get one and move the eggs into it? What else do I have to do for them? Thanks for any help you can give.
