  1. I think you're right Norm, the more budgies evolve the more problems we may see. The final egg count for the 3 hens on nests at the moment is 7, 1 & 8. I've been lucky to foster out eggs to get around 5-6 per nest. Thanks Bec Sta,My favourites the violet/grey normal 3rd from the left - he's called MaximusMax
  2. Due to popular demand, here's the better part of the gang, the rest are on parent duty. all the best, Max
  3. Thanks Maesie, 1 -the only way I knew they were twins was by the egg count each day and the lucky coincidence that Bonnie is not one to eat the empty shells. I've been able to put back the 2 halves of each of the eggs hatched and there's one more chick then eggs. I mark the fostered eggs with different colour felt tip pens so its a bit easier to identify which egg has hatched.2 - Yep, you guessed it, she's the most acrobatic and has been since day one.all the bestMax Thanks Kaz,As soon as I worked out they were twins I checked out all the twin topics on this great site, I was just reluctant to jump without giving Bonnie a chance, she was a fantastic mum with her own chicks and shows all the signs of being a brilliant foster mum.I hindsight I could probably have split the twins up an returned one of them to their Mum who doesn't have any chicks as yet but is sitting on 6 eggs.you live and learn,Max
  4. I guess it was inevitable, if I intervene, they're so small, I risk injurying one or both of the twin chicks and if I leave them I run the risk they'll not make it either. Regrettably one of the twins did pass away.... I've posted a picture to try to give people an idea of how small a newly hatched twin is, I hope it doesn't upset anyone. On a much brighter note here are photos of 2 of the girls, Bonnie (who is fostering eggs and chicks from both her daughters) and one of her daughters Swoop, who is on 5 of her own (one chick). All the best, Max
  5. Just a quick g'day to introduce myself and the guys. I've had Budgies since I was a kid but have only started breeding them since 2004. I prefer the pet variety and have 20, all different colours and types. At the moment I have 3 girls on nests (16 eggs in total), 5 have hatched in the past 3 days including what appears to be a set of twins today!! This is the best time and the worst time waiting to see how they all fair. All the very best, Max
