That is great news, it is really exciting when you finally get a result after so many weeks.i hope the rest of your pairs will start laying.
  4. Don't feel bad,Dave. I have a young female that i handraised that is similar personally to Laverne and when i first moved her to the aviary she behaved worse than Laverne, she also used to attack me when i went into the aviary as well as pick on all the other birds. She still has a tendency if she is in a bad mood to land on my shoulder and bite my neck. Least Laverne will never do that to me.

Congratulations Maesie, i am glad you finally have some things going your way now. That is sad that you cannot take your budgies but hopefully you might be able to have just one in the house with you. Now you will have to start the fun job of packing.Have a nice time tonight celebrating.
  6. 12th of May, she is moulting very young
  7. I wondered if it is the cooler weather that is causing the early moult, i have had them since the 16th of April so i cannot see change of diet affecting them now.How old is Latte's sister? The babies are only 3 months old which seems early to me to be moulting.
  8. I decided to give Henry a few more days in the aviary to see if things would improve and finally the pecking order has been worked out and Laverne seems to have been knocked down a peg which she needed. Henry has stopped living in the log and will cope with Laverne even sitting next to him but she still is not allowed too close. The babies seem to be starting to go through their first moult, i cannot believe they are old enough. I think Laverne's colour will change when she finishes moulting, i can already see yellow colours showing in her chest area. It will be interesting to see if she ends up looking more green than blue. Pics of Henry with the young ones.

That is great to hear that your Granny is well enough to move closer to home.
  10. I have been wondering the same thing Denise. have any hatched yet Maesie.
  11. Thnks Libby, it seems strange to me that she is still laying eggs when the first one if fertile is due to hatch on sunday.
  12. I got the 7th egg today but what i am worried about is that she does not seem able to sit on all the eggs and when ever i check her there seems to be one egg pushed to the side but it is always a different egg.
  13. Thanks for the advice, i might try a half trim and MB you are probably right because i have 2 of them in the house that are very close to each other they are not going to be as dependent on me.
  14. when i had their wings clipped they would come to me and last night when they stopped flying around i could get them to come over to me. Tweety would sometimes be naughty and not want to come but he has always only wanted a cuddle when he decides he wants one but it seems to be only while they are flying they will not come to me so how can i teach them to come to me while flying. Are they just not tame enough and do i need to spend more time with them with their wings clipped.Tweety is nearly 2 years old and Runt is 7 months old so are they also too old now to try to teach.
  15. Tweety and Runt have had their wings clipped and now they are tame i am letting them grow back but the only problem is that they will not come to me while they are flying. Once they land they will step up on my hand but i would like to teach them to land on my shoulder or hand while they are flying. i have tried food treats to coax them but they ignored the food. Is it because they are enjoying the new freedom and they will be easier to teach once they have got used to flying again. i am worried that now their wings have grown back they will not be as friendly. Tweety is already starting to fly away some times from me when i want to put him back in his cage at night.

we are in the same position as Liv, we used to go for drives with the kids on the weekend and we have had to stop. My husband has started taking the train to work because it is cheaper but we own a 4wd that is a turbo diesel.
  17. the first egg was laid 12 days ago but i have still seen them mating. My husband went to check them yesterday and they were in the nestbox mating.
  18. i got my 6th egg today, i am very excited because i had thought she had stopped at 3.i hope some are fertile and white Df spangles.
  19. Do not feel bad Dave, she is getting better. I have 2 other young females in the aviary who she has try to fight with and they have put her in her place.Henry is the only one now she is tormenting but he a very placid budgie who i have never seen stand up for himself and would rather hide. She is still close to her brothers and it is cute to watch the 2 boys feeding the 2 girls and the 2 girls preening the boys.
  20. I have been thinking about moving Henry out of the aviary and bringing him inside. He has taken to spending most of the day hiding in the log so the younger ones particularly Laverne will not torment him. He is 8 years old and has been living in the aviary for 5 years now so i am wondering he would get too stressed if i move him into the house until the new aviary was finished. If i move him would i have to quarintine him from my inside birds.

she only has a small cage so could she just disinfectant the cage and then spray it with a mite spray.
