  1. I have no nesting boxes in the aviary.I have removed her and now i do not know if i should return her.
  2. Last time i handraised budgies it was summer so once they where 4 weeks old and had feathers i stopped using my heating cord to keep them warm but i am wondering with Roxy who is nearly 4 weeks old if she still needs to be keep warm by heating, she is by herself.I just moved her to a cage because she keep climbing out of her container.
  3. I went to the aviary this afternoon and found 4 budgies with blood on them. One of my hens had blood around her beck and she has attacked 3 of my males in the aviary. i have never had fighting in my aviary before. She is a show type who is 18 months old and is in breeding condition. 2 of the males i cleaned up and left in the aviary but she attacked jake who is 7 years old and has a young hen who he is always with so i do not know why she hurt him. Jake is in a bad way so i have had to bring him inside to a hospital cage. i have removed the hen from the aviary but i thought it was the males that fight, why would the hen decide to attack the males?
  4. You are a very busy person with wedding plans and building new flights but it sounds like you are going to have a great setup when it is finished.
  5. they are beautiful photos and you have very pretty budgies.
  6. They look so grown up and so cute but you are going to have fun telling them apart.

i think it was really great for Jenene to offer to help me, i was amazed that someone would go for a 2 hour drive to help save 2 little budgies but it shows how caring some budgies owners are and how great it is to be part of this forum. It was lovely to get to meet you,Jenene.

The only little problem i have with Roxy is she is noisy, whenever she is with me she will not stop chirping. She chirps for her feed and then even with a full crop while i am giving her cuddles she chirps constantly. She stops when i put her back in her container and leave her but i cannot make a noise if i walk into the room she is in because even if she is not due for a feed but hears me she starts chirping. why would she be doing this?
  10. Yes, she has one black feather in the middle of all her spangle markings, i know it is a fault but i still think it looks cute on her.

Roxy is 3 1/2 weeks old now and is going really well. The problems she was having with her balance have gone and she is feeding so well that we have gone from a syringe to eating from a spoon.
  12. he sounds like a typical male to me, my hubby is the same. I do hope everything gets organised in time for you so you can have a nice relaxing wedding day. Sometimes i think it is easier to organise things ourselves than wait for our partners to do it.
  13. I went to the aviary and took some photos of the budgies this morning but mainly the pics are of the 4 budgies that Dave gave me so i could show how they are going.Sorry it is a long post but had so many cute pics. They are going well, Was the eldest the skyblue pied because that would be Laurel who has paired up with Laverne. Hardy and Shirley hang around together preening each other. Hardy and Shirley are the friendly ones who try to land on me when i am in the aviary but Violet my handraised budgies who sits on my shoulder when i am in the aviary will not let them near me, she will not share me.i will post some pics tomorrow for you.

It is good to hear Jenene the babies are going well. Thanks Dave for you words of encouragement and it was your 4 little ones today that i was admiring in my aviary that i have help me decide to try again. They are so beautiful and i would love to see the results of breeding them. Laverne, the golden face type 2 is going through her first moult and is changing from a lilac colour to a unusual green shade, i will post pics when they finish moulting. She has settled down heaps and is a joy to watch in the aviary, she loves playing and hanging upside down from the braches.

Thanks Neat, i went to the aviary this morning looking at my budgies and i am going to try again but i am going to wait till my breeding room is built so i can put a few pairs together at the same time.I have a avairy that is 1.8 x 2.4m and we are building another one the same size and i only have 20 budgies so there is no need for the hen to go beacuse i have plently of room for her.

i do not plan on selling the hen, i am a softie with my birds so she will have a rest in a cage by herself and then go back to the aviary but i will not breed with her again.

The hen is not feeding them anyone either so i have removed them and feed them myself. One of them took to the syringe so well that it must not have been feed properly for a while. The one that fell from the nestbox has injured itself, it walks funny and is holding one of its wings down. i have had a lovely offer from Jenene who has offered to take the babies and foster them with her hen so that are going to Jenene's this morning and i think that is going to be the best thing for them. The hen plucked their down when they where younger so i think she will not stop, she is just a no good hen.

just when i thought things where going smoothly, i have another problem. i think i am going to giveup on trying to breed budgies.I went to check the babies this monrning and one of the babies who are only 3 weeks old was on the floor of the cabinet and they are both missing feathers from the back of their head. Has the mother done this or could there be another reason for it. What do i do if it it is the mum, will she stop doing it? It is only the hen looking after them and i have no foster parents.
  21. I having been following this post because i want to understand how to tell the sex of babies but i also been getting confused so i understand how you feel.

  24. Congratulations on the birth of William, he is very cute.
  25. That would have been a awful feeling, it must be the cold nights that are making them sleep in the branches because that is where my birds are sleeping as well.
