Babie Bird Bedding? And Pics
hello, as you may know i have and am handfeeding babies, im going through paper towell like crazy,. i have asked before, but i need safe bedding for the brooder and play bucket, my pair are on cob bedding, but at petsmart they have a bedding for birds and small animals it looks like fluffy papery stuff, is this safe,? in the brooder now, i have pine bedding with paper towel like we always used to use but i see in some pics, this papery fluffy stuff, i dont like babies on pine for fear they will eat it, they do chew on it if a piece gets to the top? im going to the big town[kalamazoo ] toamrrow for supplies [45 min drive in good weather,] we have a snow storm comming tonight i belive, so i figured id batter get at it, also should i get weaning food, ive never used it exept for finches? im feeding zoopreem hand feed and this store has the weaning food, my two biggest guys are eating some millet and broccoli and kale, i will make the carrot perch soon, that usually gets them to eat it, [change twice a day] heres some pics, i wish i had one of beaker flying to the play bucket to help me feed, its funny and he really is helping with the oldest cobalt normal who is shy and doesnt eat as well as the others, i waited to long i guess, well here they are, im pretty sure the blue is boy and pied is girl and i think one of each green, i hope the youngest is boy i want to keep him, hehe, juliet im a proud momma

My Budgie Is Sick...
hello and welcome, i would get to a vet first, is there any scaly stuff on her legs, ? may be the picture but the color is weird, usually gray what ive seen, bedding her in clean shreeded black and white newspaper will kill mites in the cage, i had a pet store and all birds and reptiles were bedded in it for quarentine, but i would have her looked at, yes ivermectin will take care of mites but alot of the tim eover the counter stuff isnt so great, good luck, hope your budgie comes out okay, someone else here will have more info for ya, ive really only dealt with scaly mites on chickens, and a few pet birds, bit it was always a grey crusty stuff, hmm, juliet

Chick Seems Blue? Pics
well heres new pics, and my first night story, tired but having fun, i will post my bedding later or somewhere. it was a long night, first one i didnt give the babies back to mom and dad, my oldest and third baby are shy and dont really like to play, though they were all handled the same, the littlest is so fun the one with the 2 yellow feathers on the back of his head, i hope a boy i want to keep him, the second pied [i think girl ]is fun too and plays , today six birds and i were threatened with being made into soup [to noisy] the dog was the only safe one, when im feeding babys dad comes to help and the screeming increases, if i dont let him come he screems, mom doesnt seem to care much, ive never hand fed babies when the parents were in the same room, what a racket, dad calls to them and they cry for food even if their full, and dad sits on their brooder or playpen and chirps, he is now finnaly being a tamer guy and landing on me or near to get to the kids, he landed first time on the ceiling fan and flapped and it moved, now its his favorite thing, haha, i dont know how long well be able to stay out of trouble with this noise, it doesnt bother me, but when jon is watching football, hmmmm, not good, i finnaly had to cover the parents so i could feed, and their getting ready again, i think im gonna have to sleep on the couch to, my alarm wakes jon up and he cant get back to sleep, well a small price for babies, for a short time, hehe, with the wood stove heat its 85 degrees in here we spend the winter in shorts, so i dont need to heat the babies, i just hope the blue[oldest, 18 days]tames more im alittle worried about him, i do though have a home for all three that i dont keep and one home is to be a freind for another budgie, hmmm, well got to feed again, its fun me and beaker filling em up hehe, thanks for all the replies, juliet

Rescue Bird Needed A Home
another thought , by the way shes beautifull, could ya cover all but the front of the cage so she has the back to the wall feeling, also when i got this last pair i have now, the hen bit, i ignored and it did finnaly work, if i actually try to restrain her without a towel she will still bite but not anyother time usually, [girls are bitie anywhay ive found, ] my boy i can clip wings and nails with my bare hands, also the wing clip is a good idea it seems to knock em down a notch while training or working with them, good luck, shes a beauty , juliet

Chick Seems Blue? Pics
hello all, this morning i got up to take the cover off the budgies and lo and behold baby number one,[3 weeks ] was looing out of the nest box hole, so cute, anywhay, the last two days hes been having a change in behavior, very shy and withdrawn, number 2 chick was the brat [biting] and sure a hen by attitude, started being so sweet, hmmm, anywhay i pulled the two oldest to hand feed out, [ill put them in with the pair for the night. at first]they are doing great in the brooder, and i made them a play gym in a rubbermaid tub with a ladder and toys, millet and pellets on floor, i put them in it while i made the first feeding, wow!!!!! the pied [hen] ate a green pellet and nibbled millet, the first boy just hid, well number one ate a little at first , number two ate like a pig, and was in a screeming feeding frenzie when mom and dad decided to fly over for a look, the look they gave me was like, [better you than me hahah] and flew back to the remaining babys. my number two chick is chewing paper towel and flapping, and preening hard, every shack she lets go a cloud of wax pin feather dust, the big boy is comming out of his shell now, hours later, but when i talk to them he comes to the front of the brooder and listens, and runs to cuddle my hand. they are so cool, heres the latest pics, the youngest ones are yellow and green, oldest blue phases, wow, but the greenies, seem to have blue comming in by legs and lower body???? hmmm, well here they are, bigger and funnier, thanks all juliet
