My First Breeding Attempt
I didn't realise it had to be a dominant split recessive to recessive (or dom split recessive) to get DEC's. I gathered from other posts that it had something to do with clearflight pieds?? Oh duh! Its clearflight pied with recessive pied. I really should think for one second before posting What you end up with when crossing dominant pied and recessive pied is a budgie that can in some cases be almost free of markings and might make one think it is a double factor dominant pied. Sounds like it could be very interesting then! Here's hoping we get that far!!

My First Breeding Attempt
Hi All, I've decided to let my original 2 budgies have a go at producing a family! Cock - Bah Hen - Uh Oh It seems to have been a fairly popular decision with them so far, I put them in a cabinet on Monday, and Uh Oh was almost straight into the nest box! This morning she seems to be looking decidedly 'egg bumish'! Will keep you all up to date. SJW

Budgies And Peppermint Tree Branches
To all south aussies - "Willow Myrtle" is quite common and easily grown in adelaide, often as a street tree. There is a street near where I live (inner south) that has them down its entire lenght!! PM me if you would like details!

New Spangle
Seems I've caused a bit of division in the ranks :budgiedance: ! I'm not going to chase her about to look under her wings just now, I'll have a look and hopefully be able to provide a definitive answer when she comes out of quarantine (~2wks to go).

New Spangle
Finally a green budgie! Would anyone have any guesses as to her age? Also, am I right in thinking that a good way to improve spangle markings is to put them to a well marked normal bird?

New Spangle
Managing to have bought a green bird would be a first for me! I guess I thought YF2 because the first picture seems to show a couple bluish coloured feathers!

Sootica And Big Vinnie
All hens would be opaline....? 25% would be opaline hens Only if the cock happens to be split for opaline. Otherwise they will all be normal hens Vinnie isnt split for opaline as far as I know. Sorry.... :hap: , getting confused between opaline hens and cocks..... !!!

Mother Of 4 Died
Thanks Sunnie, that's a good article. I guess in a nutshell then, feed them a good balanced diet and they'll take what they need, when they need it....!

Mother Of 4 Died
Neat, silver beet isn't spinach, I can tell you that . I have been wondering about the differences in feeding them to birds though, as I have read that spinach can interfere with calcium uptake....? Is this different for silver beet...?

Strange Behaviour
It's just a standard style pet shop cage, big door in the centre, a small door on either side for seed and water dishes..... There's not really anything else in there, as it is only a temporary setup....

Strange Behaviour
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on what this silly hen might be doing Shes grabbing beakfuls of seed and depositing them underneath the seed dish, by the end of the day the dish is completely empty. She's in a breeding cabinet size quarantine cage at the moment. Could she just be bored, or is it some strange nest preparation behaviour (the seed dish is just a generic plastic open top one that fits in the little door of the cage...) Thanks, SJW

The Difference Between English And Australian
Am I allowed to say that the show budgies are the ones that look grumpy and disdainful....

Genetic Outcome Calculator
I get confused with all the blue options - blue, blueII, T1's & T2's etc, and the x1 x2's for the sex-link varieties.... . Would be great if there was a user's guide to explain the options (hint hint someone who knows what they all mean).......

Scaly Face..?
So she'd be a sky blue...?

Scaly Face..?
Guess I need to continue my search for a normal green budgie then!! Here's a full body shot if you're interested :fear

Scaly Face..?
That's interesting, I didn't pick that before. You can't actually see them with the naked eye! I guess the camera doesn't lie though!
-
Scaly Face..?
The colour doesn't come up properly in that photo, she is a much more vivid green than she appears in that picture. What is it about her that makes you say yf2...? SJW

Scaly Face..?
Hi All, Here's my new normal green hen (fingers crossed she's split to blue!!) My first question is, is this what scaly face looks like? If so, what's the best way to treat it? Also, how old do you reckon she looks? Thanks. SJW

Dec Vs Df Spangle
I've no idea what caused it, the normal cobalt I got at the same time is fine. It did just start to fluff up and not do anything. They were even getting the royal treatment being kept inside, as it is so cold at the moment!

Dec Vs Df Spangle
Sad news... The white budgie died over the weekend....it just seemed to slow down and stop, hadn't even named the poor thing. Very upsetting, was really hoping for a DF Spangle too...
