  1. Look how they have grown!!! They were tiny jelly beans when i last saw them
  2. Budgies are all different sizes - the bigger ones get rung early and the smaller ones get rung later
  3. They are adorable I also like the DF spangle - he is a handsome boy!!
  4. Cool, thanks Kaz I still find it hard to tell the gender when they have the black on the cere
  5. Hello and welcome So pleased you have found the site enjoyable and informative. It's great to have you here
  6. The others An opaline spangle Cock A normal blue cock an opaline spangle hen A spangle grey green hen (i think ) And this one is a foster and sibling to the normal green A YF2 voilet normal cock ( i think )
  7. That is bizarre. A budgie with no legs is something that happens i guess.
  8. The deep coo sound budgies make is one that isnt heard very often. It's a special little sound and i really like it. I have no idea what it means but i have 1 or 2 birds that always do it when i come and check on them in the bird room each day
  9. Yes Ernie is a blend - his mother is a show type and his dad is a nice pet type. The normal green above is not blended, he is pure pet type so will be smaller.

That's really interesting - i have never thought of blindness in budgies. I hope you find him a good home
  11. Here is the normal green - he is a tiny little thing. He fledged today More baby pics coming soon.... its hot today so am not bugging them too much
  12. Yes you can mix show types with pet types - they make lovely babies. i really love the blends If you want to breed show budgies it would be best not to blend show and pet types together as it reduces the structrual features of the offspring. I use blends to make pets for people and as fosters for my show budgies as they often make better parents than the show budgies. show budgies are a lot bigger than pet budgies so you need a bigger box - blends will be okay in a normal box.
  13. We will be line breeding next season

Cute pics your aviary looks awesome!!! I hope this ino one is okay - it looks to be fluffed, sleepy and leaning to one side.
  15. It is one of the few recommended antiseptics. you only use a tiny bit on the site - can even dilute it if needed. ps betaine is made with iodine, which is not harmful in budgies - just dont over do it
  16. unless line breeding for show or purpose, it's best to stick with distantly related birds Get 6 birds from very different blood and go from there. I would not go closer than cousins.
  17. I agree with 3 pairs being a great start.
  18. Can you give him some Tripple C, Avicycline C or some other kind of broad spectrum antibiotic. Also use betadine on the site to help fight the infection
  19. Budgies do eat meat and insects on occasion. its great protein. Some show breeders feed their budgies cooked chicken (no, don't worry, its not cannibalism as a budgie to a chicken is no different as we are to a cow)
  20. Hope he will be okay. Get him to a vet asap because he could be sicker than he looks. They are very good at hiding their true health status puss = infection!
  21. Hi Zebra - You are always welcome here  Benny is adorable and has grown so much
  22. Hello and welcome I agree with MB You baby is a male. the brown on the cere can be a hormonal imbalance or it can be something more serious such as cancer. A cere like that in a healthy male normally means he is out of breeding condition. He is very young to be out of breeding condition. I'd give him some more time to settle in and perhaps give him some more dark hours at night (12 hours dark quiet time) which will help regulate his hormones.
  23. hahaha where is a video camera when you need one!!! That would have been a sight to see I have not experienced that kind of behaviour before. If it was one of those really big moths he might have thought it was another bird
  24. I get very confused with the different green colours in budgies .... is anyone able to post pictures of the different greens (not YF2s) including those with violet, light colours, medium colour and dark factor and olive etc I also seem to get confused with the normal green and the opaline green so pics of them would help lots too I am so confused with the greens..... and it shows
