  1. If you breed 2 YF birds together (planning not to sell the white faced chicks as they will most likely be DF YF) , you'll get a DF YF for future breeding then you will get 100% YF's in a years time when you breed from them...
  2. that is a good one!!!
  3. No spangle in the mum I agree that dad is a grey green cinnamon. he must be split greywing
  4. You apear to have very happy budgies I do feel that the digging in the seed dish could be a playing and/or nesting thing too. I would try getting a different feeder that she cant get into.
  5. That last picture Deb, is a crack up!! He is gorgeous They all are in fact.
  6. Aww poor girl. looks like it is healing alright. She is a stunner
  7. I agree. The cinnamon is very nice Look forward to seeing her develop
  8. I have heard stories about people pulling tail feathers and getting chunks of flesh with it, and of course it doesn't grow back after. Her feathers came out nice and clean *phew*
  9. okay, thanks Kaz
  10. Awwww cute as!! congratulations!!
  11. Thanks Renee, i understand that the primary tail feathers needs to be present and longer than the secondary feathers to be accepted for judging Thank Daz, mmm well she wont be growing them back in time then Oh well, this is why i wanted to practice... Still 2 birds to try and prep, although it might be down to one as i have another shonky looking tail. So are all birds who wont grow a tail FM survivors?? I have been told that some just don't grow them well, but dont have FM and others drop their tails when stressed etc ???
  12. I am so sorry This crazy weather takes its toll on the birds
  13. Liv, I am sorry but that statement is just not true. Mutations have been spotted in the wild many times. Infact on Christmas Day in Canberra in the southern suburbs a yellow, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo was seen and photographed amongst a flock. Mutations in wild stock appear regularly but not all are adapted for survival usually due to lack of camoflague. The mutation I am looking for in not a colour one but a marking related one. I know it is in the captive show type stock. I am trying to find out if it exists at all in the wild stock. That is really interesting... i am looking forward to your research findings
  14. think of it like cinnamon dave. Cinnamon shows on both dominant pied hens and cocks... ino is just the same
  15. Snowy looks like a hen to me. the cere is far too tan to be a cock. I agree that Zoey looks 2-3 years old too.
  16. I agree, its a DF dominant pied chick. Ino's can have any mutation that has been hidden by the ino gene and he must be hiding Dominant pied Ino is like cinnamon, it only changes the appearance of the dominant or recessive markings, in the dad's case.
  17. Older budgies will struggle more with moults, and will feel weather changes more too. Try giving moulting aid now, in preparation for the major moult in april. There is not a lot extra you need to do with your seniors, except watch them closely and act fast when you see signs of ill health. (which you are already doing )
  18. If the bush budgie lines are pure then mutations should never occur, unless they are an effect of close inbreeding breeding??
  19. You lucky things. its like a yoyo here. Hot one day, cold the next.
  20. She is a pretty hen too. Good luck finding her a good home. If she has lived inside for a long time, it may be a shock to her system to suddenly go outside in a large aviary. I would make the process gradual so she gets used to the outside weather. Inside birds don't tend to have as much down feather as the ones that are kept outside. She might need to go in a cage outside and be covered at night for a while until she acclimatises. In saying that though, if the weather is good over there at the moment than you may not need to worry about it. Here in SA it has come in freezing cold and sudden temperature change is stressful on the birds
  21. I of course received the same advice, however i think it would still be a good idea to at least rince it. It could have bird poo, dead fish, or anything on it. Actually... thinking about it. The best thing would be to wash it in the sea water before taking it home as its a natural antibacterial
